Do you think noobs will drop SF:HD quickly?

I was just thinking this morning that when SF2’:HF came out on XBL a few years ago the competition started out kinda poorly. It actually took a few months before we started seeing serious comp.

Now with the advent of ST on GGPO, everyone has raised their game way before SF:HD had a chance to come out. Kinda raising the bar out of the gate. I know I’d feel kinda turned off if I got double perfected a few times. Do any of you think this will discourage new players from entering the ST world or will the school of hard knocks keep them coming back for more?

If the comp on 2DF and GGPO is anything to judge by, I’m not taking anyone for granted when I’m playing ranked

i used to play hsf2 on xbox 1 on rare occasions, i know what its like, there was a zangief player that i played with a couple of times, i only won 1 or 2 rounds against him

if sfHD has a nice training mode and a good way to warn people about the level of their opponent then everything should be ok

I think noobs might like it better since fireballs aren’t as strong, and that’s the main thing they complain about.

I think the game will be a success, i mean, Hyper Fighting is one of the most best-selling XBLA games (Ono says some time ago that “the success of HF was one of the reasons for make SFIV”) and a lot of noobs and expert players plays it even with that horrible delay so…

It’ll depend on how good single player is also. If they are using the US ST difficulty, noobs will drop this game fast. They get beat online so they go the single player, up their game, return to online and have fun. But if they get destroyed by the unfair US ST CPU in single player, they’ll quit.

Changes made to get around fireballs wont make a difference to entry level players, they will still try to jump the fierce fireball and fail, jump the jab and eat a srk.

SF is too complicated for casual gamers to learn, i can’t even see sf4 being as popular as doa or sc

Agree and QFT. The changes are there to make it possible at all to get around fireballs, not make it convenient to dodge them.
I, too, used to think that fireballs were stupid and ate fireballtraps to dps from my friend.
On the other hand, ill be glad that noobs quit the game. If they cant even put up with the most basic and friendly fireballtrap, how can they possible be bothered to become good/decent at SF? Do we really want those kind of players?

Yeah, most will. Some will stick around and learn.

I’m sure it’s hard being a casual player who has no idea that people actually practice regularly and study this shit. There’s alot of potentially good players who will never find out about the “scene” and give up cause of lack of info…

Yeah, you do. Otherwise the franchise will die.

Yes, because everybody has to suck at SFII when they start. I hope quarter match mode is what people play, cause getting to see good mid and high level games will do more to get people interested than playing ranked, getting their ass kicked, then quitting.

Everyone starts at zero. I was just thinking with the online competition being so fierce out of the gates it could dissuade people from trying to stick with the game and learn all its little idiosyncrasies.

This thinking is elitist and counter-productive to the community as a whole.

I hope that the training mode is passable and that the single-player mode doesn’t discourage people (like the brutal ST AI did, heh). HF was/is a huge hit for XBLA. I’m expecting good things from this game.

The difference is that even terrible players find Street Fighter games fun. Online play will probably be discouraging but water tends to find its own level… Noobs will eventually find some buddies who arent good and have a blast.

Also yes many people will quit because “flavor of the month” gamers with 0 ability to dedicate themselves to a game are the majority, this is normal

I am going to tick into SPD so many noobs, can’t fucking wait. I will make people hate this game.

All i know is, we need more players in the SF community.
Yes, noobs will have a hard time but hey, practice, practice and practice.
Practice makes perfects.

lolz

i share in Pablo’s sentiment

I hope not. I’m sick of playing nothing but Street Fighter fanatics on GGPO. I’m ready to face a few people that don’t know how to hadouken

Yeah, the single player on ST is why I could never get into the game when I got SF:AC back in '04. I never seen such difficult AI in the early stage before so it was pretty overwhelming. I would try combos in training, but knew there was no way I was gonna do that shit to the computer so I just forgot about ST altogether and played 3S instead.

And then I’m gonna space you out with Claw and make you hate ME.
