WTF r u talking about? what points. I haven’t made any points about MK. I asked you two simple questions. If SF4 is scrub friendly then I hate to think how bad MK is in this department.
Lets see
Every character has high or low mixups in the form of blockstrings. Overheads take little to no startup time and move seamlessly through the block string (much easier to land an overhead in this game)
Lack of enough push block after blockstrings.
Lack of startup frames on the Ultra.
Easy to pull off Ultra (press two buttons and im l337)
Unblockable moves that have very fast startup frames (Scorpion and Nightwolf).
High invincibility on wakeup attacks.
Combos that are piss easy to do.
Yeh MK is totally not a scrub friendly game. I dont see how you can say SF4 is scrub friendly and then praise MK.
You’ll have a SF game, UMVC3 (probably?), SFxT, TTT2, Skullgirls(?), SCV…
So, even though I am die-hard for MK being at Evo again… I honestly think it may not be there again next year unless NRS releases UMK9 or has something special up their sleeves.
I don’t think TTT2 and SCV will have console releases before EVO so that leaves SSF4AE, UMvC3, SFxT, Skullgirls and KoFXIII.
Don’t worry about Skullgirls, that will probably only get a side tournament at EVO or something - I doubt it’ll be one of the main tournaments. So that leaves SSF4AE, UMvC3, SFxT, KoFXIII and MK9 as next year’s main tournaments. I think these games are the most likely to make it to Evo12
what they need to do is expand the evo to a week long thing, they have enough companys that want there games in to afford to sponsor and rent the facility… that and if companys put enough cash in the purse for there game say 50-100 grand for 1st people will come to play,
I will personally push for Skullgirls to be on EVO 2012. and if I had a choice of which game to remove I’d choose SSF4AEv2012.
As for MK9, the game is close to being where it needs to be, and we know (because we have seen) that NRS is willing and more than able to make balance changes and add characters. The community has also supported MK9, and EVO 2011 had a rather large MK9 showing.
Okay I beleive MK9 has a solid chance due to the Mortal Kombat roster. At EVO unlike other games in the top 8 10 characters were used; by eight people. This shows a deepness to the game, multiple characters are usfull. In contrast MVC has phoenix which classically won EVO. AE, kinda had the Twins… specifically Yun, but still had a great showing. (My issue with Capcom is I feel like they release unfinished/UNBALANCED games, and expect you to keep buying the next rebalanced version…Like in AE you have a slew of characters who are balanced and can compete then just some characters who are just plain unusable at a competitive level.
Where as MK9 has I’d say 2/3+ of the cast being usable (excluding DLC; which I beleive are all usable)
I mean we saw Liu kang, Raiden, Kung lao, Reptile, Cage, Cyrax, Mileena, Kitana, kabal, in the top 8; And before that we saw Smoke take top 10, A sub zero player who switched to Liu for top 8, and a Jax player who got into top 32… Where before EVO many people recognized Jax as the second worst character in the game.
Not to mention The VERY hype Shang tsung mirror match of different play styles.
Also not to mention Ermac has always been in the top 8 usually in tournaments. Along with Sonya (Morty), and Scorpion(Slips) winning recent majors.
I beleive that the roster in mk9 is what makes it a good game. It is the mechanic that makes it tournament worthy, and because of the concept that you can almost pick any character and win with him/her is what makes it a great game. Where as In other games…(BOB, Phoenix, Yun) Have characters who dominate.
Yes; Mk9 has kung lao, but from watching recent fights, people are developing very EFFECTIVE ways of beating him (such as spacing, and not Jumping at him).
So yes I want it at the next EVO, and I hope to be there, And I surely beleive it will, no question asked. (I wasn’t there this year).
Gonna have to agree with with a lot of you. Tekken 6 is a fun game. But watching it horribly boring. MK on the other hand was crazy fun to watch. I hope it returns.
1: Not every character has a mix up deriving from block strings, one that instantly comes to mind is smoke. also some fighters have very poor mix up options from block strings because their gameplay is oriented completely from different aspects than getting either overhead/low to connect Cyrax, johnny, ermac for example. allot of characters have overheads that are fuzzy guardable
2: The push back this game has on certain block strings is huge and have a great impact on the gameplay, for example johnny cages f3, 3, b3 which is his most important string for mix up/frame traps, last hit is always a risk but sometimes you just must take it to keep the trap working every character fighting against johnny pray to get that (B3) part on block to get that push back it gives.
3:This game is allot of meter management so the reason these “ultras” are quite fast is because they are always a risk as a blind option and they need to have some edge. its actually very rarely you see a blind X-ray attack on high scale play. there are allot of more important stuff in the game to use your bar for. i will use johnny as a example, the most i use my bar for is his enchanted moves because they give him the best pressure strings like F3, 3xxEXdf2(Forceball) and ways to close in on zoners with ex bf4(shadow kick) also lets not forget the breakers.
4. How hard the ultras are to pull off should have no freaking meaning, you can pull them just as easily in SF after few hours of practice i see no difference in hardness pressing 2 buttons and or qcfqcf + button.
5. each and every of these moves can be punished on reaction you dont need to be clairvoyant to jump/dash away from them only a noob wouldnt see them coming.
6. The invincibility is only there if the person times the wake up attack precisely right, also doing a wake-up is always a risk which will get you punished hard if countered properly. this i why the game has different ways of getting up and those are all used in high level of gameplay
7. There are characters that have easy combos eg.(liu kang) and then there are characters that require a very strict timing for the combos just like in all games eg.(Cyrax, cage) i dare you to try out cages B3, dash 2, dash 2, dash 2, dash, 44xxbd1 concistently.
And regarding the “new technology” MK players find new traps/resets/setups monthly the game is still evolving and its doing it allot.
You know shit about the game and come out as a stupid sf fanboy troll…
Mr Wizard has said that if a game can’t draw 300+ people, something is wrong with that game’s community and that game is not worthy of being put in EVO. So if he believes MK9 will draw only 200+ people, he wouldn’t put it in EVO.
But I think MK9 should be able to draw more than 300 people. The recent Summer Jam V had 61 people playing it, so there’s still life in the game.
I love SSF4 and MK9 more than any game at the moment. But please stop comparing the SF mechanics with MK mechanics as they are so much different than one another. And to the fanboys judging a game by comparing it to SSF4 should just stop posting here. MK9 has it’s own in depthness as SSF4 has its own. If you were good at both games, you’d understand and be more considerate about other games and the different skill set and strategy needed to play and actually win games against high level players. Both games have their own flaws and they are being fixed everytime they can. NRS releases patches for MK9 in order to keep the game balanced as Capcom annually patches SSFAE or the same reasons. Also, i’m getting tired of the old school asshats going around calling fighting games scrub friendly even though they most likely suck at every one of them, hence why they try to find excuses such as making claims like that.
As for MK9 in EVO, I whole heartedly hope it comes back because this game is being taken in and many players are learning more and more of the possibilities in this game along with new strategies for every match up. To those unfamiliar with non-capcom games, MK is more of a game based on match up rather than tiers. You can have a high tier character and have a very low chance in beating a low tier character based on their playstyle and certain moves that counter everything the high tier character tries to do. In the end of the day, the chances of MK9 being in EVO has more to do with the amount of entrants that arrive at the tournament rather than how “deep” the mechanics are. If tournament’s placements were based on how deep a game is, BB should have been the main event. Not even kidding. The reason why SSF4AE and MVC3 were main events was based on the amount of entrants. MK9 will have more entrants this time with new players coming along and the amount of interest it is attracting among gamers from other FG communities and globally.
I’m gonna play my part and encourage as many MK9 players as possible to come to EVO with more entrants as others in the communtiy will do the same. The “MOR-TAL KOM-BAT …sucks” chants were hilarious. Time to bring the salt like last year.
the games I know for sure will be there are
AE12
UMVC3
SFXTK
now with SC5 we will have to see how well it does at other majors same with kof13 I really want kof13 to be at evo,oh and some tekken game will be there either tag2 or tekken 6 again
I’m new to this forum and was browsing this section and saw this. This is the most retarded reason to ever use as why MK9 is bad. No body who is smart in this game uses the X-ray, X-ray is godawful and a waste of meter on most characters. A smart player will prefer their EX moves or breaker over 30-40% damage that scales horribly if you do anything prior to it.
I mean, look at Kabal, he is easily one of the top5 characters and what do you use your bar for on him? EX Dash and Breaker, that’s it. Nothing else. Maybe an exBuzzsaw, but that’s a waste.
Just wanted to say that that’s not entirely true. X-rays are often very useful for unbreakable match clinchers, and some are just downright useful at any time. For example, Cage having full X-ray completely changes the pace of the fight. Use it sparingly and any opponent paying attention is scared to jump-in/ attack you on wakeup. For any other character, pick up on your opponents attack strings and x-rays become very useful combeback mechanisms when you’re down and out.
However, I totally agree that players who randomly throw them out or tack on X-rays to the end of combos for a ~5-10% damage increase are wasting meter.
Funny, I play Cage and I always forget about his X-ray, but I prefer to make people respect the Red Kick more then I X-ray. But, yeah, Cage’s X-ray is a really valuable tool and can counter just about everything. I love countering random X-rays online with him.
However, I did say “most” but there are those characters that just -do not- X-ray, off the top of my head I can name Kabal, Cyrax, Quan Chi, Shang Tsung and maybe Kitana? Not sure on Kitana, I just know her exFan is a great extender.
