Do you taunt? When, why and why not?

I usually only taunt when both myself and my opponent hit some nasty lag online, do that jab dance and then taunt just for the hell of it.

  1. It’s hard to miss the meaty… you throw a fireball about as soon you recover from the ultra lol.

  2. Unless their ultra is some instant full screen shit like Blanka’s U2 (but instant startup), then you’ll be able to block or jump over their ultra, followed by another taunt of course.

Whenever I play 'gief online, I play a defensive style: 1 or 2 SPDs then sit back and wait for them to come to me. Taunting usually makes them salty and more prone to mess up. Other than that I don’t really do it…

I don’t. I make sure to disable it. I went for a big punish in a tournament match and slipped and hit taunt in between the combo instead of just cl. HK and it cost me the match.

i only taunt back, but people usually think i’m inviting them to hit me, but they fall for the ultra.

adons taunt #1 AND #9 BOTH HOP OVER FIREBLLS…and they make him dodge/avoid certain special moves like makoto’s chop or a grapplers command grab like hakan’s p grab.
fei’s # 7 taunt…i think its his 7th one…the one where he lays down also ducks under fireballs. dan has special move taunts.
uh,…some taunts can mask certain moves like one of guy’s taunts mirrors the motions of his focus attack, so i’ll mix up his taunt with his focus attack to confound the opponent. i’ll cancel his taunt with a special move or the focus itself. mind fucks people at times.

I taunt when the opponent doesn’t have a brain, such as :

  • Keeps on jumping at me non-stop and getting anti aired every time because it’s so obvious, literally no difference if I was playing against a training mode dummy.
  • Keeps on mashing reversals while still being baited and punished every time, mashing is good sometimes, but only a retard would do it EVERY time.

If the enemy taunts, i usually just taunt back in return. (Or if im playing with friends, then i taunt all the time :smiley: )

I only ever put on the shades with Guile when the opponent has taunted first. I generally think that taunting is bad form and try to keep from doing it as much as possible. (There are exceptions most notably playing as Dan.)

I only taunt when it does damage for the kill =) Eg. Deadpool/Chun-Li.

I just got SSFIV:AE today, and taunting is the funniest shit. I was just dicking around and this is the funnest part of fighting games till you realize you suck at them.

I taunt only when my opponent taunt me first. Usually I do this on friendly match. Not in real match

I taunt when I get taunted first or feel that I got randomed out first round and want to get into someone’s head while they are thinking they got the win already. another situation that I taunt is when I feel I am being lag switched (first round is smooth opponent gets Pee’d on then starts spiking second round) usually is gonna be a sagat or honda player doing it too. idk 30000+ online matches and the formula never changes.

E/ I also want to add that if you see a Dan taunting never take it personal. hell if someone is gonna use Dan they better taunt it’s what makes the game fun.
