Do you remember BANG THE MACHINE? SF DOCUMENTARY! INTERVIEW WITH FILMMAKERS

Ok guys, i’ve been a Street Fighter fan since the original SF hit the local 7-11’s. I remember running down to the 7-11 during lunch hour in high school and playing sf with all my friends. Good times good times. Anyway, I used to write for a magazine here in Vancouver BC, called THE NERVE(the dirty rag is no longer).

Back in 2002 i found out about this Street Fighter documentary, made by Tamara Katepoo and Peter Kang. I got a hold of them and i did an interview for the magazine. I’m not sure why it took me this long to join this site, but i have and here is the Cover and Article.

I hope you guys enjoy this old treasure, if anyone knows what ever happened to Tamara and or Peter, please post up.

Cheers and enjoy

so um… wheres the link?

it should be up, if its too small i’ll put up a larger one can u guys read that fine?

oh nvm I didn’t see it got edited in there. Nice stuff, and good read! Still wish I got to see this.

i never seen it either, my copy never got to me

Now upload the actual doco ;]

How about no.

How about yes.

Why? To get the original creators of the documentary sued just because you want to watch it? Go to Evo if you want to see it.

You should change the title and put old interview with the directors or something. I seriously just saw the title and was like another one…we get a new thread with BTM every other month or asking where to get the movie and when I clicked your thread it I was like oh cool it’s an old interview. Misleading title for those of us who have been on SRK for awhile. Good shit with the interview though interesting read.

Just wondering why and who’d they get sued by? Capcom?

I think it mentions it in the article but it’s been explained several times before, in the documentary they use songs which they didn’t have the rights for [yet?], meaning was this to get out, this would make them liable to get sued by the original owners of those songs.

MrWiz please correct me if I’m wrong, I have the distinct feeling I got something mixed up.

I am new to the site so i did not know that there is a thread about this every month/week. If i knew id change the header. If a Mod is reading this, you may change the SUBJECT and include INTERVIEW WITH FILMMAKERS, ETC.

ALSO, I DO NOT HAVE THE MOVIE, so i’m not sure why someone would ask me to put it up or whatever unless they are not payint attention…hehehehe…

Wow, I was not expecting this thread to have anything worthwhile in it. Cool stuff, man!

good stuff

Was expecting this to be asking how to get it.

Am happy to be proved wrong.

It seems as though that him uploading it as a bootleg wouldn’t make the makers liable, but then my knowledge of the law is kind of hazy here.

I’ve searched for any info on this subject and i came up with a bunch of threads on here…etc.

Before i keep going, i just want to let you guys know that i am a documentary filmmaker with few movies under my belt.
I am also a Street Fighter fan, hence the interview back in 2002.

Anyway, i’ve been reading the threads and it seems to me that the people who have this film on vhs/dvd/ whatever are holding
on tightly so it doesnt get released via torrent or youtube etc. Lots of members on here say that “people wont understand it” or “like it”.
I want to know why would that be? There is enough of a fanbase that the doc would do well, provided it is actually interesting, so far ppl say it is.

I strongly think there is a ton of interest beyond SF fans and this site for this doc, if a doc is made well and is interesting it can be about anything,
there are no said rules. I will bring up KING OF KONG, that was a great doc, yes people know donkey kong but people also know Street Fighter.

I dont know the story behind the filmmakers and their reasons for not releasing this fim yet, other than the whole 9/11 lost footage etc. But if they did
manage to save it and edit around it and it still is good, why not release it? IF they cant finish it because they are missing important footage and
will not be able to make a story out of it, dont release it but make an annoucement so people know.

Music rights and such are super simple to deal with, yes it costs money but if a studio has faith in the movie they’ll cover it etc.

I for one would like to see it released and maybe it will, one day.

Do i think it should be released on youtube, thats subjective. I do think that the filmmakers should try, that is if they are not trying now, to bring this film to the public.

DVD duplication, mastering etc is so cheap now, even if they make a limited run of 1000 units, they will still be ahead.

If someone releases it online via youtube, or torrent. No one will get sued, if its youtube, they can flag it. If its torrent, well…its torrent.
The only way someone can get sued, is if they try to sell it, and that is if the original filmmakers find out about it and go after them.

Yes i know its cool to be the only kid on the block that has something special, that no one else has or will ever have but sometimes its good to share knowledge.

Im actually surprised that CAPCOM wouldnt take BANG THE MACHINE under its wing and release it, makes no sense.

I guess members are tired of this topic… heh… no action in a while

I’m heading to evo this year, I hope they screen it  fingers crossed. There’s always I got next
