I’ve searched for any info on this subject and i came up with a bunch of threads on here…etc.
Before i keep going, i just want to let you guys know that i am a documentary filmmaker with few movies under my belt.
I am also a Street Fighter fan, hence the interview back in 2002.
Anyway, i’ve been reading the threads and it seems to me that the people who have this film on vhs/dvd/ whatever are holding
on tightly so it doesnt get released via torrent or youtube etc. Lots of members on here say that “people wont understand it” or “like it”.
I want to know why would that be? There is enough of a fanbase that the doc would do well, provided it is actually interesting, so far ppl say it is.
I strongly think there is a ton of interest beyond SF fans and this site for this doc, if a doc is made well and is interesting it can be about anything,
there are no said rules. I will bring up KING OF KONG, that was a great doc, yes people know donkey kong but people also know Street Fighter.
I dont know the story behind the filmmakers and their reasons for not releasing this fim yet, other than the whole 9/11 lost footage etc. But if they did
manage to save it and edit around it and it still is good, why not release it? IF they cant finish it because they are missing important footage and
will not be able to make a story out of it, dont release it but make an annoucement so people know.
Music rights and such are super simple to deal with, yes it costs money but if a studio has faith in the movie they’ll cover it etc.
I for one would like to see it released and maybe it will, one day.
Do i think it should be released on youtube, thats subjective. I do think that the filmmakers should try, that is if they are not trying now, to bring this film to the public.
DVD duplication, mastering etc is so cheap now, even if they make a limited run of 1000 units, they will still be ahead.
If someone releases it online via youtube, or torrent. No one will get sued, if its youtube, they can flag it. If its torrent, well…its torrent.
The only way someone can get sued, is if they try to sell it, and that is if the original filmmakers find out about it and go after them.
Yes i know its cool to be the only kid on the block that has something special, that no one else has or will ever have but sometimes its good to share knowledge.
Im actually surprised that CAPCOM wouldnt take BANG THE MACHINE under its wing and release it, makes no sense.
