Basically build up that endurance and control their movement. Keep them off balance and keep them in positions where it nullifies their strength. Basically make them work for everything and make them over use their energy so you can break them down. I was in varsity wrestling in HS and if I would have learned what I know now with Judo, I would have been super ridiculous. But yeah, plyometrics and endurance will take you far.
Back when I was in Hawaii I did Hawaii Okinawa Kenpo Karate (HOKK) from like 2/2001 until about 11/2001. Itās a play on my SRK alias and name as wellā¦
So last Friday, a group of friends and I decided to play horse at school. Before that, my friend and I ended up fooling around and tossed a few hits at each other. He actually licked my arm in order to disorient me as I restrained him. Later at the basketball court it led to the two of us getting into another sparring match. I had forgotten how strong my friend was (the one Iāve given a bloody nose and choked out in my last post) and he literally stomped onto my leg (the pain lasted about two days). Plus, heās much quicker than I am and managed to deliver several punches to my shoulder. However, Iām capable of taking the hits so they donāt bother me too much. I managed to get him in a front headlock and seeing weāre nearly the same physical strength we both ended up crouching down. This nigga ended up biting me in the thigh as I restrained him. Before that, I reminded him of my extreme long reach when I threw out knife hand strikes and kicks.
It continued when we headed back to the student lounge. It was practically a wrestling match and I donāt even remember how it started except that before it escalated that I grabbed his arms and pinned him down in a chair. The fight went to the floor and it evolved into an all-out brawl. We both managed to get the other in a leg lock and he twisted my ankle. He asked me if I was okay but it actually didnāt bring any pain. I believe I tried to apply pressure to his ribs with a body lock using my legs as I recall. It eventually came to an end when he caught me in a rear naked choke and I tapped out, but it was a fun match even though it dragged out. The scoreās now 1-1.
Though I realized there was an increase in my physical strength and that I have crazy grip strength, Iām literally fucked when it comes to striking with my hands. As aforementioned, I rely on holds, locks, dodging when I can, and kicks, though I do attempt to attack with my hands. Ultimately, I try to develop a personal style going by my dance and Aikido experience and my small knowledge of martial arts. Because I have no formal training, Iād like to name the style, āStreetfightingā. However, seeing him and I havenāt spar in a long time, it left me desiring for another fight, which is why I have been doing planks lately.
The first thing I will say is you need to stop sparring with your friends randomly. That is how cats can get seriously injured. I donāt know if you have any formal training or not, but it sounds as if you and your friends have no idea what you are doing and are trying out shit without knowing the proper technique. If you have access to a Dojo or a place with mats (your college rec center should have some) then I would suggest practicing there. So first thing is to join a martial arts school or something and learn some tech, the whole thing you refer to as āstreet fightingā is really two young kids trying shit that they think could work. Plus actually get in a real street fight. Go to a bar and pick a fight with someone and then see how that differs from what you do with your friends (donāt actually go to a bar and pick a random fight, because cats will probably stab or shoot you). All I am saying is be smart about these things and link up with someone who actually knows what they are doing, otherwise you could seriously risk injuring yourself or your friend.
Oh no, Iām not picking these fights considering I know damn well Iād get my ass whooped. I have been trained by people who own dojos as I remember, but not at the actual dojos as my training took place at school. However, I do agree with everything you just said, especially seeing I realized that the whole āstreet fightingā thing sounds very immature. My friend had trained in TKD and I trained in Aikido and learned basic techniques in college. The sparring itself was basically rough housing, not us trying out techniques like weāre badasses. As of now, I doubt I have the time and money to join a dojo with school and work, but I did thought about it. Back in elementary school, I did get into a real fight and won. The kid was about my size and after trading punches with him, I just unleashed a bunch of kicks at his side and he wasnāt able to hit back. The old room where I learned martial arts does have a mat room, but I donāt know if itās available to everyone.
You find time if you really want to do it. Since you are in college there should be a few clubs that you can join for like 50 bucks per quarter/semester. My point is that you need to get in a dojo or some sort of training area and not just learn techniques, but also learn what martial arts is really about. Where I train there are adults and little ones, and I serve as an example to them by the way I act. A good example is that where I train at now, a lot of kids found out that when I studied Judo, I competed a lot and that motivated them to want to compete as well. It sounds like the guys you are learning from could be legit, but you really need find a school with a good reputation and great instructors to teach you. If this is what you want to do then the money spent on joining a Dojo will not be a big deal.
Just think about what you really want with this and go from there.
2 of my bros do Judo and are always trying to get me into it, but seeing they get broken toes every damn time I see them compete its getting a pass. I do love however the fact to get promoted you need to win points at tournaments, you get some joke martial art schools thatll hand out a black belt like its nothing.
Well Judo was developed as a sport based off ju - jitsu which is a traditional form of self defense going back to feudal japan.
Iām interested in doing MMA at some point and I need a grappling basis and ground technique. Iām very good with my hands and knees and I know how to do some fairly brutal high kicks but because I havenāt done karate in such a long time Iāve lost a ton of flexibility.
yeah competitionin judo is no joke. I broke my wrist in one of my first matches at a tournament. But still fought to make it to third. Actually judo is one of the reasons I am a south paw now.
Seriously, riddle me this if you care. What is it with the FGC and gay guys, like nothing against gay men? Iāve met more gay guys through fighting games than anything else Iāve been involved in.
I just spar for fun as you may know, but itās just rough housing in a way. My school has a Jujitsu and Aikido club but between the two Iād rather go with Aikido. Considering the situation, what do you think? Should I go offensive or defensive? Iām asking because youāre much more experienced than me and youāve given great advice.
Not taken. I just like fighting games, though now that you say that Iād like to know myself.
