I may have a slight speech impedent but I don’t carry the Fabulous gene. I’m too dull and boring to possess it.
We’re getting off topic. But according to my gay friend all gay dudes have gay superpowers and secretly fight crime, bad fashion, and republicans.
Back on topic. I dabbled in some boxing while I was in school. I liked it. So I’m gonna go back to it.
Just check them both out and see how you like them. That is your best bet. I was doing Aikido but checked out the Judo club and my school and just gravitated towards it. Basically checking out what fits for you.
Tommy Morrison has passed away… Sources at this time do not indicate his cause of death but it was stated he had failing health…
If any of you remember the Rocky V movie, he played Tommy Gunn in that film…
He also won the WBO heavyweight title by decision against George Foreman and defeated many Heavyweights in his prime…
May you R.I.P.
This is what teaching karate to kids is suppose to look like.
I wonder how many of you guys are ninja masters of this caliber…

Yeah I am posting it again, what you wanna fight about it?
^ the fuck is that? I thought evasive technique was something black guys learned at birth.
Also the vids of the 2 kids doing kata. You know its not really that hard to teach the movements to a child but 1- they both rockin at least 3kyu (fucking 6/8 yo!!) and 2 I dont really think they understand what a kata is all about either. Smh.
Its bullshit like that which kepts Karate as a non serious past time to mr joe pleb in the street.

actually it really is hard to teach karate at this level. most kids dont have the muscle mechanics to be as controlled as these kids are. This is a serious commitment, these arent kids who are doing karate as an after school thing…it’s clear these kids are gonna be lifers. these have to be some sensei’s kids or kids who do alot of competitions. most kids dont develop that kind of control til 8 or 9ish.
katas are to develop the techniques you learned in class. You learn new katas at new belt levels and they are supposed to be matched up with the new skills you learned at the belt level as well. They go hand in hand…its not like the old days where the theory was you were fighting 6 dudes bullshit. its for skill development.
Nae man, I had started karate very early myself and had katas such has kushanku and naihanchi down when i was around 11, my beef is teaching kata to kids out right so they understand its a damn kata and not some dance. You practise 30-70 steps all day and you will eventually learn it despite your age, but do you understand what your doing? thats totally different.
A lot of karate has some serious bullshit going on.
I used to do Taekwondo when I was younger due to anger issues. In the sixth grade I had 11 fights and only lost one (sounds like a anime). The principal told me if I got into another fight, I would be expelled, luckily they had a after school taekwondo class that I signed up for. I got my black belt while in high school and everyone in my class level quit shortly after. It was very fun to do. The only thing that sucks was that I should have done boxing (they didnt have any popular city boxing programs then) because during sparring and tournaments, I found myself only using my legs to step in like Ken’s fwd mk, otherwise I would always out box someone, which always flustered a lot of people because they went scared if someone got in close.
New Orleans has recently gotten a ton of martial art schools, which sucks because I feel like a lot of people opened up shop after Katrina…

it really has to do with the school, sometimes you really dont have time to breakdown katas like that.(most kids classes are 30-45 min long). I generally teach kids why we do things when their having trouble getting a move…it helps them mentally break it down and not cause mistakes.
not exactly sure where you’re going that they treat it as a dance…havent seen that before.
Is napping considered a martial art? If so I’m a brown belt cuz the gf says I fart a lot in my sleep…
An interesting observation. I like ninjutsu as a martial art, but why is that everytime I see somebody who is a “master” they are always out of shape, or look like wierdos or both.

Or a fraud… Frank Dux baby xD Gotta love the guy that buys his own trophies then passes it off as spoils for fighting in underground death match tournaments xD Nice whiskey bottle trick though.
Check out Judd Reid. He is a master who is truly forged by martial arts.
I’m sorry but this is fucking funny. Apparently it’s in Russia and it’s a Kudo match. Kudo is basically a combination of knockdown karate and Judo.
I posted this in the boxing thread as well. I joined a boxing gym to help supplement my training. I am happy I found an actual gym that isn’t that whole cardio boxing stuff.

Not a huge boxing fan and if I got back into martial arts, boxing would be the third thing I’d do behind karate and grappling but I would train in a gym similiar like that. There use to be a gym like that years ago in my area but they closed it down and turned it into a Bingo hall…then that closed down.
Edit : I think you can see the place in this link. It was rumored that they produced some of the best boxing talent out of D.C. before they closed down. https://www.google.com/search?q=4132+23rd+Parkway,+Hillcrest+Heights,+MD&safe=off&hl=en&source=lnms&sa=X&ei=3C07UsfpCoz_4APshoCgDQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAA&biw=1280&bih=929&dpr=1
