This. I have always felt SF is one of the most “cartoony”/goofy fighting game series, at least when it comes to character design (post SF2). And that’s not a bad thing.

EVery fighting game’s got their fair share of goofy characters. In SF4’s case, a goofy character was introduced alongside a cool character.
And last time I checked, there are a lot more cool characters than there are goofy characters in the roster. What’s one more going to do?

No one here made a thread in FGD about how much they hated Hakan and really, only newer members have made threads recently about how much they hate SF4, but someone made a thread about how much they LOVE Hakan in FGD. I’d say it’s the opposite with someone saying how much they love a character and they pretty much came to the “wrong part of town” to flaunt that at. We didn’t go into SF4, SF4 came to US! :arazz:

that there are more and more stupid looking sf coming into sf was a given, thats not even worth commenting bout. what i cant understand is how some of the supers and ultras have been made. a LOT of the supers and ultras are some of the dumbest shit ive ever seen. even if the old ultras looked like sooped up supers most of them looked good and made some sense. a lot of the new ultras and some supers got that comedy thing going for them, which is like the gayest shit ever. gayer than hakin rubbing oil on the gief.

They take longer now too it seems. I wonder if there will be more time-out wins this time since the new ultras take a whole 10 minutes to finish. I remember some people used to use ultra to run the clock out, now you can probably do that shit with 6-8, maybe more, seconds left on the clock.

Besides Hakan’s moveset (natch), Dhalsim’s Yoga Shangri-La (which arguably suits his character) and the headlock part of Zangief’s new Ultra (ditto), I can’t really accuse the new Ultras of pandering to the funny bone. Heck, many are significantly less reliant on comic relief than the old ones (Rufus, Dan, El Fuerte, Seth, even Sakura).
The “opponent flying towards the camera” visual gimmick is IMO overused, though (Seth, Cody and now Hakan). OT, perhaps, but IMO Cody’s second Ultra should be a tackle into grounded beatdown into strangle-throw using his handcuffs, and his Final Destruction (Ultra I) should do the Alpha 3 18 hits instead of a measly 7-8 hits.
