Do any of you like SF2?

the throw game is a little more complicated then just not letting them in.
Think about it, once they are in, you have throw as well, and also a jab, cr. jab, short, and cr. short.

Some characters also have good moves you can use to bait throws and then come out on top. for example, O. Ken’s jab shoryuken, balrog’s headbutt, and honda’s short buttslam/oichio throw.

The way I have always viewed ST is this:

Every character in the game is very good, and all though there are defined tiers, nothing is even close to impossible since it can mostly be one hit to get in and put them in a bad situation.

These situations include a lot of characters having touch of death combos, option select shenanigans, or dangerous 50/50s.

It pretty much boils down to playing an intense game of fundamentals and spacing, trying to manipulate your oppenent to begin to get in the position for one of the previously mentioned situations, and then executing it.

Even still, these situations are hard to execute, do to the game’s no bull shit mechanics.

If it wasn’t for SF2, i probably wouldnt be playing SF3. If it wasn’t for SF3 i probably WOULD be playing SF4. (shudder) I owe a lot to sf2, its a fighting game that i can pull out when i have family gatherings and have tourneys with because all my older relatives used to play only this back in the day, awesome.

SF2 was my gateway to fighting games growing up, and 3S feels like the final (almost) perfect evolution of 2. I don’t care for Alpha and I never even touch it anymore. I love SF2 for the “do or die” feel of the game, it keeps me coming back. 3S gives me plenty of time to pick up on patterns and whatnot, 2 is like “you better hope your offense is sharper than theirs or you gonna get blown up”, no bullshitting with SF2.

i’m guessing you’re having trouble super canceling. :qcf: ( insert normal as doing down for the second qcf):qcf:= ( button for super) is how you super cancel in st.

I love ST, ( i play new fei chicken wing combos are too much fun to do on people ) however i love 3rd strike much more. both great games just depends on personal taste.

sf2 is what got me started in fighting games like a lot of other people. i absolutely loved it, and would always try and play it with friends, but they wouldnt put up with my dhalsim bullshit for very long before quitting playing.

going back to it after not playing it for around 15 years or more is kinda a shock to the system though. i never remember it being so punishingly hard all the time. maybe it was because i was playing on either a PC or snes/megadrive the difficulty was toned down. times ive tried it again in the arcade im lucky to get past the first character on arcade mode.

ST Is dope as shit but I kind of prefer HDR, gonna hide now.

HDR sure feels random as heck when you’ve spent the previous ten years playing ST. Am I the only person here who remembers the 5 game SFII mash-up that was on the old Xbox Live? Shit was funny. Champ Bison Vs New Challengers Dee Jay :o It’s on GGPO, but I’ve only ever seen like 3 people in there.
I’ve said it once already in this thread, but I’ll say it again: you can tech the damage of throws in ST, and one of the best ways to counter being tick-thrown over and over, is to simply throw back. Of course, some chars have way better range and priority…
With only a handful of overheads in the game (unlike 3s of course), throws in ST are essential to open up a stubborn defence.
