Lol, you actually took the time to snap that. Ahah
ST is great, a little stupid at times, but great. I’m surprised oldschool_br hasn’t come to put you haters in your place, usually stuff like this summons him like the candy man or something.
I can’t believe some of the ST hate in this thread. This game is a classic and it deserves recognition. Ugly Sprites? Crummy Controls? Dated?
What the hell are all of you talking about?
Not only does the game have brilliant sound effects but the music supports one of the greatest videogame OST’s around. The gameplay is top notch and helps solidify great core FG fundamentals. This game also creates some fantastic nail biters and the balance is pretty good.
If SFII is dated then what the hell is SFIII? I got news for you if you think a game being dated makes it any less of a game, you are wrong. Also, it boils down to enjoyment and TBH other than a small handful of FG’s there are not many games that hold a candle to ST in terms of fun.
Real talk, ST helped me better understand the concept of zoning(I play Gief), and it transitioned pretty well into 3rd Strike. It has its silly moments, but EVERY game has its share of BS in it. ST is solid enough.
if you persist and put up with the powerful and seemingly random things in this game youre treated to what i think is the most fast-paced fighting game ever. i know that sounds like an awful way to sell you on ST/SF2 but i find its tough to try and convince people why it isnt dated and the discussion quickly degenerates into a bunch of insults
for example i think these are all valid complaints. but i believe the fun in ST and fighting games as a whole is taking the time to learn how to work around or even outright counter these situations. imo ST/SF2 are easy to pick up but theres a lot of hurdles to jump through if you want to reach a higher level. the game does lead itself to scripted play at an average level with many low-risk or even safe setups and it definitely looks random even at the highest level (like this lol) but i think these complaints are overblown to make it sound like thats the entirety of the game

My fav. ST match right there.
its hilarious to read a thread where third strike players complain about ST with the same amount/type of ignorance as people who like street fighter 4 use to complain about third strike.
You mean a thread where like…two people complain about ST?
yup! hilarious!
Well, sure doesn’t take much to make you laugh huh?
In any case, ST’s just like any other game: see past its flaws and you’ll find yourself a fun game. Just like 3S, and dare I say it just like SF4(I can never look past those flaws though).
any amount of people of being silly makes me laugh, from one to a million!
IMPORTANT EDIT: also i’m happy!
You should probably step away from message boards in general, if you don’t want to die from laughter. Just sayin’, I’m not up for an incident.
I’M NOT AFRAID TO DIE
It might look random, but doing a pre-emptive attack at the very moment someone tries to throw you is actually called fucking them in the head. Daigo does it all the time and Poongko (and yaya) even did it to Daigo. If people aren’t thrilled by that kind of stuff, then maybe they should play a different genre.
Well put. I didn’t want to put up with roll-canceling and customs in CVS2. And I didn’t want to put up with parrying in 3S.
You can sign me up for throw cheese, mind games, and lack of mobility options all day, though.
If you don’t like fireballs and high-damage throws & combos, maybe SF2 isn’t your cup of tea.
I’ve been trying to get a few dudes I play games with from another message board to play ST and 3s with me regularly. They play FGs but mostly seriously started with SF4.
Their feelings on 3s: I don’t like the mechanics. How come I’m getting thrown so much? I don’t like the wake up game. It seems like you either have to block or parry.
Their feelings on ST: Wow that is a lot of damage. I prefer games where you have to earn your damage (SF4). Also throws are even worse than 3s throws.
these people, I tell you. anyway all the good FGs have something that feels like bullshit when it’s happening to you. I suspect throws in ST are one of those “don’t get in that position in the first place and remove yourself from it as soon as possible” things like being in the corner in 3s. if you’re getting thrown a bunch, it probably means there’s a deficiency in your zoning or spacing game? I’m not super great at ST but that’s how it looks to me now anyway.
The old games are unforgiving. Play any of them and you’ll probably be better at whatever you’re currently playing.
Depends on the version.
I like it and respect it, but I don’t have an interest in playing it competitively. I still play it casually offline sometimes with friends but I don’t have a need to get better at it. I prefer Third Strike.
yeah thats what i was trying to get at and you worded it better than i could. you and i both know that was a smart move in a tense situation but somebody unfamiliar with how tense and fast-paced the game can get might just see it as a random attack. at least thats what i always thought when i was a beginner
read what julien beasley has to say about graham wolfe in this interview and youll get what im saying
and yup pretty much hit the nail on the head there. i know the inputs are tough in this game but i dont think the execution barrier (at least to be able to start winning consistently and to know what youre doing) isnt too high. rather theres a fundamental barrier seeing as how this is one of the earliest FGs around. you gotta learn how to deal with situations such as this. its a real match-up heavy game
If I bought you a gun, would you shoot them for me. There’s this ditch that Rockefeller knows where you can dump the bodies afterwards and no one will know.
