Can someone who has the game go into mission mode and purposely lose? I need screengrabs of what Dan says after a failure. I hear he suggests players “to go to the store for help” and that “you can go to the store to buy better gems then the regular ones.”
Also lol trophy/achievement for just accessing the store.
Just failed a mission on purpose and Dan said “This foe is stronger than anyone I’ve ever faced! I’ll have to go to the Store and buy some new Gems for my Gem Unit…”
Yeah, a game that plays great if you like rush down, has terrible online play, has terrible graphics/small characters/shitty “fire” special effects that don’t match the art, has no way to allow people to stream it unless they are playing and a much smaller player base who all take themselves way too seriously.
The game is fine but if you applied any of what I just said to a Capcom title there would be an insane amount of hate beyond what is already out there.
Actually the online is pretty good with the recent patch, 3 bars and up play nicely. Terrible graphics? I guarantee SNK put a lot more time into their 2D sprites than Capcom put into their 3D models… especially considering Capcom shits out a new game every six months, clearly it doesn’t take much time or effort.
I don’t know if you’re trolling but at a competitive level KOF -is- more serious than SF/Tekken/SC/MK. But hey, if DLC autocombos and gems that play the game for you are your thing, then stay happy.
The input precision gem stands out as even more bloody stupid than the rest.
Pay to win is bad enough, but pay to un**** the bloody input system is freaking terrible, it’s like Ono and crew are just taking all complaints against what capcom have been up to recently and flipping off the people behind all of them.
Megaman- Trololol bad box art version is now in
On disk dlc- More than ever, now affects gameplay
Input leniency- Here, pay to fix it
I like KoFXIII…I just have serious issues with it. The core game is good but there is a lot of flaws that some people tend to either not care about or completely overlook because they really want something “different” (read: not Capcom) that they currently love to be in the spotlight.
“Capcom shits out a new game every six months” - By my count only two fighting games, up until this week, had been released since SFIV was first released in July of 2008. Updates to the base game are not new games.
“I guarantee SNK put a lot more time into their 2D sprites than Capcom put into their 3D models” - The SNK sprites are small even compared to KoF98, the animations are stiff and the background animations are horrendous with very little character. The color pallette is also “dark/blue/brown” with little else. Also, in response to the other poster, the “fire” effects look tacked on when ex/specials etc. are done. They do not match the art style. Also, the backgrounds are pretty generic with people clapping or doing stuff wayyyyyyy too fast.
“Actually the online is pretty good with the recent patch, 3 bars and up play nicely.” - I don’t live in California or another hotbed of FG activity so I get to see pretty quickly how good netcode is. I don’t have too many issues with SFIV, UMVC3 or Blazblue. I’d chalk this up to there being more people who play those games in my geographical area but there is an even smaller amount of BB players and I have few issues with it. With KoFXIII I have issues. But again, that could just be that most of the KoF players are on the coasts and I’m smack dab in the center of the US.
I’m not trying to flame people but I also don’t mind making my opinion known when a person tries to tout a game as much as I see some of the KoFXIII people. And it doesn’t help that any time you mention anything potentially negative the few fans of the game come out of the woodwork as if they are a starving dog and you’re trying to take their food.
What flaws? Be specific. I’m curious because most people consider KOF13 one of the most balanced fighting games out right now.
I’m skeptical you’ve even played the game. The sprites are not smaller compared to 98, but the stages are longer. Every character has in excess of 700 frames of animation, and 13 has the the most fluid animation out of any game in the series. The colour pallette? Seriously? You do know there’s a color customization mode, right? That you can even run around in neon pink if you want to? All of these complaints are infantile and irrelevant to gameplay anyway.
Fair enough. KOF does have a smaller scene and consequently a smaller online scene. Finding 3 bars is more difficult than other mainstream fighters.
KOF is a fantastic game that never got enough love in North America. It’s hard not to feel a bit passionate when I see Capcom disrespecting their fans and the genre as a whole with pay to win DLC strategies, yet it’ll still sell 10x more than KOF.
I was very specific about the flaws I found. As you can see, most of them are superficial and have nothing to do with the core gameplay which I expressed previously. But any one of them would be BLASTED by the fans and the haters of a Capcom FG.
Sprites are smaller in context of screen resolution. I own both games. Yes, I know there is lots of frames of animation. That doesn’t make them silky smooth or even that good. It’s to be expected with today’s graphical technology. You are also mis-understanding what I meant about the color palette. The entire design of the game is bland and washed out. It has nothing to do with picking your character colors nor did I specify that. I was talking about the overall design of the game which anybody who has done anything with art in their life would understand. Have you asked yourself the question of do you like art because you like the game or do you like it for itself? Or are you the type of person who prefers more dark and moody and minimal compared to game art being stylized? I also simply can’t stand the fire effects as the computer generated effects look completely stupid when used with drawn sprites.
I never said the game was bad and I agree I wish more people played it (because then I could play it more) but it has it’s flaws…most are superficial in regards to gameplay but all effect the size of the audience who would be willing to even try it let alone stick with it. The game not having a lobby where you can spec is a HUGE strike against it. I don’t know how many FG streams you watch but I love them and I rarely get to watch a KoFXIII stream unless it’s a tournament…which is pretty rare to see streamed.
I honestly don’t see the problem here. The fact that you’re here on SRK, presumably making an attempt to learn the game and be a part of the community, tells me that none of you are the sort of people who would use these kinds of gems at all, let alone pay for them, and I think it goes without saying that tournament organizers are likely to follow suit.
The community seems to have reached the consensus that DLC gems are unacceptable. So unless you like playing with scrubs online who* aren’t* a part of the FGC, what’s there to get upset about? Is it that Capcom’s trying to make money off less skilled players by charging them for a leg up? Because that’s just smart business.
