I’m 110% sure they mean two slots for gem sets.
Sounds like a horrible idea because those gems are now after capcoms statement worth nothing in a few months.
@thekingseth They mean more loadouts. As in instead of having 2 gem loadouts of 3 slots each you will have 5 loadouts of 3 gems each. It lets you do things like having a gem loadout for fighting specific character types. “I want these 3 gems when fighting grapplers but these 3 when fighting a shoto and these 3 when im in the assist slot and these 3 when im with this character etc.”
fair enough. I still think EX Auto Throw Escape Lv3 and EX Auto Block Lv 3 are game-breaking.
Oh for sure, 1/8th a bar for auto block? A good player doesn’t need to worry about such pathetic amounts of meter and they can easily put themselves in a situation where they aren’t getting thrown especially with throw range here. It will completely destroy online play. I just hope when they release them they also release a “no assist gem” mode. They are annoying enough trying to figure out when you see that flashing purple gem all game and you aren’t sure if its auto block, throw escape, or easy input.
STOP COMPARING DIGITAL DATA TO PHYSICAL OBJECTS.
PHYSICAL OBJECTS DETERIORATE.
DIGITAL DATA DOES NOT.
THIS IS A BIG DIFFERENCE.
You cannot compare digital media to a fricking chair or a car. You cannot reproduce an infinite number of chairs electronically without any cost.
I repeat, this is a BIG DIFFERENCE. If there were no difference, then piracy would be legal, and people would be free to take discs, copy the data on them, and distribute them around the world at no cost because, they “absolutely own the data on the disc”. If you DID “absolutely own the data on the disc”, then NO ONE WOULD CREATE SOFTWARE. EVER. Because, one person would buy a single disc, and create an infinite number of copies for the rest of the planet. The software developer would immediately go out of business, and the world would enjoy the benefits of the developer’s work for free. That would be bad for all of us.
Clearly this is not the case, since piracy is illegal. And, it’s illegal because YOU DO NOT, AND SHOULD NOT own the data on the disc.
This is the fundamental issue that many people cannot grasp mentally, and it’s the entire reason why this whole on-disc/off-disc controversy even exists.
People’s brains are stuck in the 20th century, and they cannot understand why 1’s and 0’s on a disc are different from the disc itself.
So basically it winds down to this:
If TO’s accept gems - Gem setup time restraints + finding a way to make sure people dont use banned gems and enforcing it
If TO’s ban gems - Turtle and Timescam every match, which isn’t too hard with what is being discovered every day
Either way, online is going to suck balls for those who live in an area where there is no local scene.
I don’t think this game is going to last very long
EDIT: Kalyx pointed out that the gems are free due to pressure probably, so I changed this a bit.
These gems are free, and though their effects are stronger - the conditions/slot size makes up for it. I read the DLC gem list and I didn’t really see anything ‘free’ or cause for scare. People still have reason to use default gems. Some of the gems aren’t even stronger so much as different.
I’d love to see what the future priced gems are about, if they’re priced. One could imagine premium gems may actually have free benefits, but if they don’t - there shouldn’t any problem. We’ll need to see that premium gem list (unless some of the gems in the aforementioned list are paid, then I’d conclude there no reason to fuss).
I agree. Tbh that’s all I want from Capcom right now, a way to disable gems.
If gems are truly free like they say, then there should be no reason to NOT have a “gemless” mode offline AND online.

Assuming we have time constraints remedied with the upcoming patch, wouldn’t it be easier to just ban the assist gems?
They won’t include a mode or function that disables gems because they want gems to be a lucrative investment for SFxT and potentially future projects. Ono has said that “customization is the future of fighting games” and gems are their venue. In this manner they can use gems as a way to encourage pre-orders, as purchasable DLC, and other revenue generating methods.
The problem is that Capcom’s method of customization goes against the fundamental principle that makes fighting games great. Each player enters on a level playing field, and skill, experience and a little luck determine the victor. CvS2’s groove system was already a great way to customize an individual character, whereas Skullgirls is bringing customization options to team play, allowing you to alter your team size and create your own assists. Gems are a halfassed, terrible way to customize in a fighting game.
Right now we all the same access to the gems available, so technically we are playing on an even playing field. Things get sketchy when the paid gems come out.
Actually kalyx, its the exact opposite. Right now people who paid for the pre orders or special edition have the advantage. And since the gems will be free later on (they have not announced any paid gems, just free ones) everyone will be on an even playing ground. The issue for gems for me is no longer “paying to win” it is that certain assist gems are straight broken. Ranked play needs to ban assist gems. They are fine in endless battle where the host can simply kick the dick using them if need be. But in ranked play and tournament play they go against the competitive spirit of the game.
Forgot about the pre-order stuff. Though those gems are lateral quality, so I wouldn’t say advantage. I’d like to try them anyway.
Assist gems become a problem because of the people that complain about them.
Ummm…I’m not just realizing it. I think you’re confusing me with someone else. I’ve known it’s been like that for quite some time.
