I’m pretty sure the thought process was a lot simpler and went more like “my movie is a revenge flick about the atrocities of slavery and is set in the deep south the end.”

But go on about how so much more enlightened ya’ll are judging one of the few mainstream movies with serious black characters, because vicious slavers who are gleefully murdered use the n word in the pre-civil war south.

There’s something deeply hilarious about racist conservatives and pretentious, racially “conscious” people getting mad over the same movie. And neither of them bothering to see it.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, I want to. Reading everything in this thread has made me want to see it even more. I haven’t seen this level of crazy since RE5 was in production. I’m glad to read QT didn’t sidestep too much of what should be in a movie set in this era. I can appreciate subtlety in movies, but that usually only comes in very specific places in QT’s films. Inglorious Basterds probably could have had a little more realism to it. Still the beginning scene with Col. Lander was pretty shocking and when the bear Jew (Eli Roth?) swung his bat on that Nazi… It had some stuff, just like you would expect from a QT film.

Big fan of Spike Lee, love 25th Hour. Disappointed that he would criticize the film and QT so heavily without seeing it.

Just gonna throw this out there when it comes to Spike Lee. I love the guys work BUT for all the shit he talks about Tyler Perry, his recent movie, Red Hook Summer, has a Tyler Perry’esque plot twist near the end.

Movie was great. I felt the final act wasn’t as strong as the first two acts, and a complaint I felt I had with it was that

the lead-up to the shootout at Candieland was absolutely forced, but Tarantino definitely made it very fun to watch.

Samuel L. Jackson as 1860’s Uncle Ruckus was hilarious, but Christoph Waltz as the Doctor completely stole the show from everyone else.

To Spike Lee’s credit its more so he’s pissed that Hollywood won’t fund the movies he wants to do and yet Tarantino can with no problem. Hollywood can be racist like that.
