[details=Spoiler]Danièle Watts, an African-American actress who played Coco in Django Unchained and appears as Martin Lawrence’s daughter on FX’s Partners, says she was handcuffed and detained on Thursday by police in Los Angeles who suspected she was a prostitute.
According to Watts, she was approached by two police officers after kissing her husband Brian James Lucas, who is white, in public. Watts was reportedly asked to show ID and, when she refused, she was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car. They let her go after finding out who she was.
Watts wrote about the incident in a Facebook post:
"Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place.
When the officer arrived, I was standing on the sidewalk by a tree. I was talking to my father on my cell phone. I knew that I had done nothing wrong, that I wasn’t harming anyone, so I walked away.
A few minutes later, I was still talking to my dad when 2 different police officers accosted me and forced me into handcuffs."
Lucas backed up Watts’ account in his own post on Facebook:
“From the questions that he asked me as D was already on her phone with her dad, I could tell that whoever called on us (including the officers), saw a tatted RAWKer white boy and a hot bootie shorted black girl and thought we were a HO (prostitute) & a TRICK (client).”[/details]
The boys in blue are gunning after everyone, aren’t they?
Oh no! All these people whom I will never lay eyes upon again have witnessed my altercation with the authorities!
No it isnt dude. It’s embarrassing to get arrested in front of people you know. Otherwise who gives a shit. Unless maybe if it’s on national television.
Last night my friend came to my neighborhood picked me up, and he smoked some bud in his car 1 block from my house, then 20 minutes later the cops came and said they got a complaint about people doing drugs here. Wish I could say it had nothing to do with my friend and I being among the few non white non jewish people in this town, it happens on a regular basis.
A neighbor who lives 2 houses away called the cops on my friends for smoking cigarettes on my front door, another neighbor who lives on the same block called the cops on me for going to my own backyard and the cop said he got a complaint about a possible burglary, my friends have had their car searched by cops several times because they parked in front of my house and the neighbors didn’t recognize the cars, I’ve been stopped by cops for trying to enter my own house through the front door. My friends and I parked in a local shopping center parking lot to get drinks from the 711 and when we came out cops were waiting by our car telling us to leave because we’re making the neighbors complain. With other friends we’ve been thrown out by park employees for playing basketball past 7PM…and 10 minutes later a group of white people entered the same court and started a game in front of the park employees with no problem.
