Dive Kick? Yun General Discussion Thread

You only counter pick Hugo? You scumbag… I like it!

Ah yeah, I can see what why Dudley could be now I’ve played some Dudley games today. They’re not Smug level but it shows.

I’ve been picking Bison against Gief, I’m just not comfortable against him. Sometimes Bison against XBL T Hawk cause lag and that stupid character is a bad combination. I have a Sagat but for some reason don’t wanna use him on Gief.

Slowly getting there with the Gief matchup. Got a friend who is fairly decent (and huge rage quitter), just unfortunate his connection sucks. Missed a few follow ups after red focus cause of it. Bullied him with st.mk and st.mp, also noticed he wasn’t blocking low often, so cr.mk worked out a fair amount of times.

ill tell you now be careful when you use that stand strong cause its the easiest normal Zangief looks for to whiff punish, (he does chop into stand short xx greenhand) .

at least snake eyez will make you never press stand strong LOl, it’s too easy for Gief to walk back , shift his hurtbox and make that shit whiff super easy and punish you.

I was using it to whiff punish. Damnit to hell. Buff Yun, I need 0 bad matchups.

Right now I think I’m comfortable with most matchups except Gief, and Rose. I know he bodies Rose, I win most of the time but I’m not 100% comfortable. I actually feel more comfortable in the Rose matchup when I am Rose, probably because I’ve played it a lot more with the roles reversed. Hawk I’m 50/50 since some go balls in, and others don’t. I don’t wanna lose a match that Yun can definitely win, and then go back to Bison or the other characters I use. It’s what I find myself doing a lot.

Hate Ryu/Rog also, but I’ve hated those two since Vanilla. I think the online yolo is the reason.

I don’t think the T. Hawks I play are derpy enough. Match seems too easy lol. Still trying to hunt down Zangiefs, ones online are so bad. From when I see a 4th lariat in a row, I don’t even wanna play.

I had considered Sagat/Fei/Guile/Rose at one point but his bad matchups don’t seem that bad. I may just counter pick Rog cause I hate him. Tried Viper but I have problems adjusting between her and Yun lol.

Scared to use Yun in ranked, every time I miss cr.mp, St.mp into upkicks, or after a command grab… I want to punch someone in the stomach. Such an easy combo, but the lag…

I know how you feel, missing cr.mp into st.mp is such a crucial link, ending in upkicks only to see you flying away to get heavily punished…and losing dem points :’(

Amen. I haven’t played him in ranked since my 1st week of playing Ultra with 0 PP, was against an Oni player and got “Waiting for player” half way through, resulted in me getting cr.mk into whiffed upkicks. -.- Ever since I’m like “Fuck that”.

Guys I have been sitting on some stuff for a while and I wanted to stir up some discussion in the threads as Im working my way back to trying to compete in tournaments part time.

First thing is that I’ve explored more options in to making the soft knockdown game more explosive since the game came out. I found from mk/hk upkicks and mp lunge you can time a meaty hopkick on their wake up. For the upkicks, tap back once when you recover and as the quickrise sync up the hopkick as they popup, and with lunge you can just time it.

Granted this is can be reversaled, but to counter that you just hopkick right away to corpse hop and make it whiff on most occaisons. Moreover you are in range for a low/command throw (EX or regular kara’d from shoulder) mixup. This is consistent with the whole cast too if you put it into practice to get the meaty as you can combo it. The reason I wanted to share is that this gives a new thing to worry about in a soft knockdown game if your options get stale. Another note is that with whiffing hop, you can also whiff in the front and meaty low or command grab.

I’ve also been experimenting with a lot more grounded pressure especially in the corner. My aim was to get more accustomed to using lp-lk-mp target xx lp shoulder for meter gain.

But then there is the summer dlc stuff for that!

I haven’t bought the summer costumes, I’m using a lower tier Yun. Those rewards of using a low tier character and winning.

Is it just me or has Yun become seriously unpopular?
Almost no one is playing him on a highly competetive level even though he is almost godtier.

People still kind of prefer Evil Ryu over him, but why? Is E.Ryu easier to pickup? As I see it, Yun is the one with the easy combos and evil ryu the one with the longer combos involving even stuff like 1/2f links and fadc.
So why is it, the people dont want to play Yun?

Are players avoiding him because “he is brokentier” ?

Yun may have the easier win button, but he still takes work.

Eroo is so explosive, cr.mk xx fireball fadc which leads to 400+ damage? And him being more solid since he has a better wake up and better footsies?
Eryu is way better IMO. Both take work to win but eroo is definitely better than yun.

null
He hasn’t become seriously unpopular he is in exactly the same place or regard he was in 2012.
Probably a multiplitude of reasons why people don’t play him but a lot stems from Yun

  • over committing
  • combos looking the same
  • hard to differentiate between good and great Yun players
  • getting their dive kicks focused (LOL)

All my opinion of course.
Those who’ve been playing Yun from AE till now are used to the silence we felt from AE-2012 and in competitive play how he is non existent.
Now it’s not any different.
He may have an ex lunge and red focus but loses to stuff like a tiny bit slower command throw, no HK upkicks, scaling on command throw means funnily enough he needs a bit more finesse…until red focus comes lol

As many here know certain playstyles really can make playing Yun uneffective and not fun as the play we see in videos and KazuYolo people soon realise isn’t as easy to do in games as they thought.

Typically low level to ok Yun’s overextend and lose, overzealous command throws, badly placed dives these things result in straight death the better your opponent is.

My wake up dps never land. I guess I’m playing Kazuyono.

Yun nerfed. Thanks for winning so many tournaments guys.

Really don’t think these nerfs affect him that much…

They don’t. If anything he’ll feel like 2012 Yun, but with a slight damage buff to his buttons and a sensible nerf to L Shoulder.

EX Lunge is kinda pointless now outside of fighting Abel as he’s the only character without a 3 frame normal/reversal. Admittedly, +1 was a bit much. Fighting Gief is going to be even worse (especially considering the EX greenhand buff which IMO is ridiculous) and the other grapplers will be harder too.

Doing lunge of any sort at grapplers always felt like a bad idea, regardless of frame advantage.

Is -1 really gonna be that bad? That puts it on the level of Sagat’s EX TU which can be annoying to deal with

Also the meter build nerf to shoulder feels to me like Capcom is admitting they can’t nerf his RFC potential effectively without making him unplayable.

EX lunge against grapplers was my way of getting information - are they willing to mash reversal, or will they try read a jump/back dash etc.

In the grand scheme, -1 lunge isn’t so bad, but it does remove that option once Ultra is stocked for Hawk/Hakan/Hugo matches, and can’t be done against Gief full stop because of 1 frame suplex.

Meter nerf seems justified given how quickly Yun builds meter and how strong he is with it. It’s a pretty clever way of toning down his strengths without changing the archetype.

Stun nerf is annoying, going to have to learn to re-count stun now across different stun ratings.
