It’s all about timing, cross up dive definitely works on him, but the sagat might auto correct DP.
Another thing is if you hit sagat at the top of his hitbox, since he’s so tall you won’t have much frame advantage at all, especially if he blocks it standing up.
He’s still viable… It’s just now you really have to think things through instead of being on auto pilot rush mode. Its funny it seems his character design had this in mind but with his nerfs kinda limits his effectiveness causing you know to care about factors like: Life advantage, meter usage, and monitoring real estate. I find it now that if you have a character cornered you can match way more easier… Things like this is something you have to keep in mind when using Yun now
Im not sure if this is known already but if you FADC the 1st hit of EX shoulder or EX lunge punch your at least +3 and can continue a combo.
And EX lunge punch to Ultra or jab lunge punch is still possible

Hope this helps, i’ll continue to search for some more goodies
Not sure about FADCing the EX lunge in terms of its practicality - you’re using 3 bars to try and get in just to be at +3 on hit, and if you’re trying to link a jab, that itself is already a 1-frame link (which will require to perform a b-link or s-link).
The EX shoulder on hit is definitely more than +3 on hit for the first part, but I still think it’s impractical that you’re using 3 meters just to do this; I’d rather save it for Genei-Jin since that’s the best way for him to output damage at this moment.
My thing is that say for instance your facing a zoning0 character with half life left and you have 3 bars and land a EX shoulder I think it would be wise to fadc it into a ST jab, CR mp, ST mp, MK upkicks to send into the corner. And in the process build a meter back and it also sets up an ambiguous dive kick. Genei Jin is good but definatly not the same especially if connect it from a jab link…
Sagat is such a horrible MU it is so hard getting in on him, even when you do get in you got to worry about a random tiger knee which will knock you back half screen away and your back where you start dodging the tiger shot obstacle course.
I’m not sure about 2012 because of the light kick nerf, but in AE, Yun can use crouching light kick to duck under Tiger Knees. Try crouching medium kick if that doesn’t work.
After a forward throw, you do one empty jump forward and after the second forward jump, you time your LK or MK dive kick, whichever one you choose to use to mix up with. This stuffs 3-frame reversals.
So on a serious note, how come I can’t find any DECENT match-up threads with Yun in his current state? I’m starting up a new project pertaining to the adjustments Yun has to make in order to make him a viable character [this “guide” will also be noob-friendly, because honestly, I can’t be an asshole to everybody].
If anybody has a request please msg me, I only want to do this to really understand the other scenarios people have been hit with that causes them to feel like they’ve plateaued in their Yun gameplay after taking his AE ver. for granted. [i.e. ME… :(]
dont disregard this post, because you all know you’re hitting those walls hard. If you weren’t then you wouldn’t be on SRK right now.
Sounds interesting. I quit sf4 when AE came cuz dudley still sucked and I didnt feel like learning how to play a char that would get butchered. Im playing sf4 again but I’ve been trying to learn the new yun by myself. I watched xian’s tutorial and vanilla AE vids but they seem to be irrelevant after the heavy nerfs.
I started Yun 2 weeks ago, and I am really struggling. Not having a solid normal to use for close anti-air is a big point of frustration of mine coming from Balrog considering I tend to play far too defensive with Yun. This forum is such a mess, and most of the information is useless since everything was changed so severely. Anything you do would be appreciated. Its hard to find setups since they all relied on basically a completely different divekick.
I’m not much of a frame-heavy player, honestly, but I’m planning to make a guide soon for numerous match-ups with the help of other SoCal Yun players [even though it’s pretty much only me and crushingyen… yes, quote me on that shit.]
I agree with you, but try this: If you can react, because Balrog’s jump is a low arching jump, try to F+Fierce [the advancing double sided palm special normal] I found this useful if i found myself in the corner (you can also just use short upkicks) because if it connects or trades while your back is towards the corner, you can follow up with a free jab dash punch, maybe even U1 (?) — haven’t tried that myself but i swear i’ve seen it. But ANYWAYS try it out, and let me know how it goes.
I was meaning more that I used to play Balrog than anti-airing him. (Crouch Fierce and Standing medium are both godlike antiairs for Balrog) I will give the command normal a shot at times.
