Dive Kick? Yun General Discussion Thread

Not volunteering to update it but I’ll help you out if you choose to do it.

Rry, I mean “I dare to say” xD
Yang is much safer to play that Yun. Nobody complains because Diego plays Yun, not Yang.
Yun options can be countered pretty easily, distances and execution to land every possible combo are absolutely essential for Yun.

Yang is even with Yun, maybe better, that and Fei Long no question ¿Where’s the complains with Fei?.

im suffering from everyone spam grab after dive kick and like when i play people and i do dive kicks they spam grab even if i dive kick at the shins on their legs. its utterly frustrating. so my question to you guys what should i do? i can provide videos to prove that i am dive kicking safely if that is necessary. >_>

Just dive kick again into combo. Or if you’re at the frame advantage, immediately do cr.LK into combo after your dive kick.

Sure post the videos.

You have a couple options:

  • Do another short dive kick right after you land and start your combo with cr. Lp into bnb.
  • Learn how to delay option select tech with cr. Mp.
The option select tech, when done properly will block reversal dp’s, tech throws and blow up other option select techs netting a free cr. Mp, cr. Mp, st. Mp xx Mk./Hk dragon kick combo.

so to get that os tech i do: cr mp and throw at the same time?

Yup. Same as Ryu’s option select crouch tech against Rufus.

Why would you want to delay option select crouch tech when you’re doing dive kick pressure?

And how exactly does a delay tech blow up your opponent’s option select tech?

I suppose blow up wasnt the right way to word that. Anyway, what I meant by that was that you’ll score a counter hit cr. Mp depending on what your opponent is mashing on.
The reason you want to delay os tech is to cover more of your opponents options. Not to mention nice damage from counter hit cr. Mp into whatever combos.

I still don’t understand. If you’re the one doing dive kick pressure, why would you want to crouch tech? You sure either be at a frame advantage or you’re at a frame disadvantage and should aim your dive kicks better, not tech your own throw setup. If your opponent is mashing grab after they block your dive kick, you’re not going to counterhit anything with cr.MP, and I have no idea how you plan on counterhitting anything with a delayed cr.MP. Am I missing something here?

You’re not doing a delayed cr. Mp. You’re pressing cr. Lk, cr. Lp, cr. Mp all at the same time. That’s the os tech.
I was assuming that his dives were getting blocked then he was getting thrown after, while beginning a block string. The post we’ve been referring to doesn’t specify so I was making an assumption.
On block you would want to delay os tech and you can refer to the other post.
If you’re getting throw after scoring a hit with your dive kicks then one of two things is happening.

  • You’re using a move that has too long of a start up for the hit stun you gained from your dive kick. Cr. Lk or cr. Mp most likely.
  • You didn’t hit low enough and you don’t have enough hit stun to do any follow up combo. Then you just need to aim better.

Speaking of too long of start up, on any dive kicks I’m not sure about I’ve been doing: cr.jab or short x2 > standing jab > mp xx mk/hk nishou. Is there a better option, or is that fine? If I know I hit deep enough I’ll do the multiple strong combo.

C. LP starts up in 3 frames, C.LK starts up in 4 and C.MP starts up in 5. I wouldn’t use C. LK unless you’ve definitely hit their ankles with a divekick. If you hit their ankles and you notice in time that it actually hit then I would do the C.MP combo.

So…who’s going to do a new matchup thread? If nobody wants to do it by this time tomorrow, I’ll make it myself.

i dont have this problem anymore thanks. lmfao. this was the only thing stopping me from getting better.

and mingo is right. why do os tech after a dive kick to stop throws. doing another dive kick immediately after is a much better option.

Because it covers more options than just throws and gives you counter hit opportunities. Doing a second dive leaves you open to dp’s and other reversal options. Even a standing jab will beat it. To each his own though. Good luck.

Hey guys I’m new to yun and I was wondering if you guys can point out the basics to me? BnBs, pokes etc… I would really apreciate it if you guys can =]

Try reading around the forums first before asking someone else to do the work for you…

Lol it’s not that I want people to do all the work for me, there’s a lot of pages and ones that date back to December…if someone asked me that and I had that knowledge I would say it and not be a dick about it
