Now while it’s easy to go into a tirade of all of EA’s faults, I’d rather say this: Battlefront, by DICE, on the Frostbite engine, make it happen.

We’ve got our hands on the first real casting breakdowns of characters from the next Star Wars movie. What’s more, we’ve verified that these are lead characters – though not necessarily to be billed in the order below.

I want to stress Bleeding Cool have 100% confirmed that the following is accurate and that the open casting started today in the UK.

Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humour, fit.

Young twenty-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.

A late twenty-something male, fit, handsome and confident.

Seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour. Also doesn’t need to be particularly fit.

A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.

Forty something male, fit, military type.

Thirty-something male, intellectual. Apparently doesn’t need to be fit.

Are these character details, or dating profiles? GSOH, physically fit…

But seeing as they’re looking for two teenage girls, chances are that rumour about a teenage female lead has something to it…

Guessing that Jaina Solo will be in 7…

The Legendary Star Wars Expanded Universe Turns a New Page

For over 35 years, the Expanded Universe has enriched the Star Wars experience for fans seeking to continue the adventure beyond what is seen on the screen. When he created Star Wars, George Lucas built a universe that sparked the imagination, and inspired others to create. He opened up that universe to be a creative space for other people to tell their own tales. This became the Expanded Universe, or EU, of comics, novels, videogames, and more.

While Lucasfilm always strived to keep the stories created for the EU consistent with our film and television content as well as internally consistent, Lucas always made it clear that he was not beholden to the EU. He set the films he created as the canon. This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align.

Now, with an exciting future filled with new cinematic installments of Star Wars, all aspects of Star Wars storytelling moving forward will be connected. Under Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy’s direction, the company for the first time ever has formed a story group to oversee and coordinate all Star Wars creative development.

“We have an unprecedented slate of new Star Wars entertainment on the horizon,” said Kennedy. “We’re set to bring Star Wars back to the big screen, and continue the adventure through games, books, comics, and new formats that are just emerging. This future of interconnected storytelling will allow fans to explore this galaxy in deeper ways than ever before.”

In order to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience, Star Wars Episodes VII-IX will not tell the same story told in the post-Return of the Jedi Expanded Universe. While the universe that readers knew is changing, it is not being discarded. Creators of new Star Wars entertainment have full access to the rich content of the Expanded Universe. For example, elements of the EU are included in Star Wars Rebels. The Inquisitor, the Imperial Security Bureau, and Sienar Fleet Systems are story elements in the new animated series, and all these ideas find their origins in roleplaying game material published in the 1980s.

Demand for past tales of the Expanded Universe will keep them in print, presented under the new Legends banner.

On the screen, the first new canon to appear will be Star Wars Rebels. In print, the first new books to come from this creative collaboration include novels from Del Rey Books. First to be announced, John Jackson Miller is writing a novel that precedes the events of Star Wars Rebels and offers insight into a key character’s backstory, with input directly from executive producers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman.

And this is just the beginning of a creatively aligned program of Star Wars storytelling created by the collaboration of incredibly talented people united by their love of that galaxy far, far away…

I dont mind a reboot as long as they keep the current TEU going with new material while also having a second EU to do alternate universe shit like what they want.

Wait so now we have Star Wars 616 and Ultimate universes? I don’t even know have to discard the Expanded Universe, they can do the book versions of the Episode movies. Look at Game of Thrones. Half those books have been out since forever and niggas are crying about spoilers. Oh well, sucks for the fans of the EU.

So in other words, Episodes 7, 8, and 9 will flop, because the diehard EU fans want to see the EU on the silver screen, while the casual fans don’t really care about Star Wars and will watch something like Star Trek instead. Let’s see what happens…

Your scenario seems incredibly unlikely. I doubt there are enough EU fans to make a difference. That’s like saying comic book fans not liking certain aspects of the Marvel films is enough to make them flop. The hardcore fan audience probably barely makes a difference either way.

Casual fans might not care about Star Wars very much right now, but just wait til that marketing hype train gets rolling. You won’t hear about anything but Star Wars for months and every child on earth will be chomping at the bit to see it. And to buy toys and videogames, which is the real reason this film is probably even being made to begin with.

On one hand, this means the trash that was Force Unleashed isn’t canon, but I’m pretty fucking upset they’re throwing away all of the EU.

The new movies will still print money because Star Wars is Star Wars, but this hurts quite a lot, especially after recently taking it upon myself to really dig into the EU proper.
