unfortunately not all stores had them or they were region specific. so one had to copy floppies. it was more likely to find a console version.
I didnt watch the video at that point but if he really said that, it is an anachronism. hence the presentation sucks. because at that time, most would have preferred arcades over consoles or computers, excluding exclusives.
while it would certainly help to own the game on console or PC
Only the PS3/Xbox360 versions had eliminated any need to play in the arcades. Mainly because there was no difference in gfx and gameplay and the arcade board had more similarities in power, code and hardware to consoles (PS3 architecture for Namco games, Windows architecture for Capcom/Arcsys games). With this gen, things will be even easier
I don’t see where anyone was against giving people basic personal respect. Such respect would also mean to judge a person based on what he actually did, and for the reasons he did it, and not crucify him in the town square while re-branding his actions as something that’s actually illegal (“sexual harassment”) because tagging them like that is simply untrue.
If you avoided refuting this claim and went for a personal attack instead, it means you know and understand it’s true?
It’s not that I’m “jealous” about it, but in my opinion it’s one of the main roadblocks in the way of real equality within any male centric scene. It prevents the boys from taking the girls seriously, and it prevents the girls from taking themselves seriously and work as hard as the boys around them. But maybe that’s also a problem of how “sports” work. You don’t get money based on productive work, but based on ratings. So a popular player would be more successful than a less-popular but more skilled player. That scale is fucked up to begin with but that’s the only route for unproductive work like playing videogames to make money.
For sports, usually pay is skill based. How good the player is, how much success he has had. The top payed players in the NFL are often the most skilled/experienced…the best athletes, the ones who are most neccesary to their teams. Sure it is debatable weather this or that athlete deserved the contract, but he got it for his skill. If it was about bringing in revenue someone would have hired Tebow already (like the Jaguars who are financially doing pretty bad), but he remains unemployed.
I don’t need to know what brand of socks someone wears to recognize sexual harrassment when I see it. Or people defending it.
I mean, it doesn’t matter what you have been through in your life, how much your parents tortured you or whatever, that just doesn’t justify being a bully, a crimninal, being a mysoginist and acting that way, or supporting/trying to justify that kind of behaviour. Unless it’s proved they have true medical mental problems, that’s why I recommend people go to the psychiatrist, because seriously there’s something very wrong with you if you’re defending Aris.
If you expected us to go “awww, poor Aris, he must have had a very hard life, we should tolerate and understand him for saying all kind of gross sexual commentaries to a woman that he had just met…”, screw that. He’s an irresponsible human being and he’s hurting people and society.
He should have ended up in jail for sexual harrassment. In fact, I think the perfect punishment for Aris would be throwing him into a cell with a big jail partner “joking” at him with every kind of degrading dirty sexual jokes when he tries to take a pee.
By the way “dry humour”?. Is there a single being in this planet that thinks what Aris did was funny??
I think the thing everyone needs to remember is that no one asked any of us to be here. We joined the FGC of our own free will, and decided to stay knowing it was how it is. And that goes for any community. It’s not like a job where you get hired and they roll out the red carpet for you once you get there.
And with that said, it comes down to knowing what the community you’re joining is like. I found the first RTS community i was part of to be reprehensible, so I didn’t stay. I eventually found another that was better and that’s another thing. There are several different “FGCs” out there and if the one you’re in isn’t for you, you can always look to join another one.
yeah, one of the few things rarely spoke of in these so called research projects is how definitive different branches of the fgc are. one would not experience the same type of vitriol learning kof13 then they would in umvc3. not to shit on the umvc3 community, just that its different, and there are different expectations.
You mean the dude from the government that sold me that years FGC membership with the certificate and ID card wasn’t legit?
Seriously though, the assignment was a joke from the moment it considered stream monsters as worth talking about and the 09er hate, there was no bloody 09er hate, just hate on the large amount of idiots who happened to share that join date with other members who joined in 09, there may have been offhand remarks about 09ers but on a personal level, you didn’t get it unless you were posting stupid ****.
I am sure it was not Aris’s intention to hurt Superyan’s feelings, he’s a funny guy who likes joking a lot. Some people just take his jokes too seriously.
Don’t think I need to see this analysis after reading some of these comments lol
It has nothing to do with taking his jokes seriously and more to do with he didn’t know her NEARLY long enough to think it would be ok to say all he said.
Shit, I could tell she was a little uncomfortable without her saying it. I was just surprised at how he kept going. A couple jokes? Ok, but he kept pouring that shit on. Even if it wasn’t a girl, to keep going on jokes to a black guy or a gay guy you don’t know would make any person uncomfortable.
Ain’t got shit to do with white-knighting. It’s a guy just making really unwarranted jokes to a person he doesn’t know.
True. I found the guilty Gear community a lot more welcoming than the SF one because they’re happy to have new folks that want to learn the game. I stuck with SRK but Dustloop was the only place I went for a long time where
Fgs are concerned.
Niche groups always look weird, but they don’t all share the same notoriety as the FGC. I don’t subscribe to the notion that the FGC is a giant blob of racism, hatred and misogyny. At the same time, however, I don’t pretend that we’re just another group of people with a shared interest in a niche hobby. The hate that the FGC gets is often hugely exaggerated, but not entirely without merit.
Haven’t seen that kind of sex harrassment in the Mexican and South American community, and I mean on the fighting game community. Machismo is of course a huge problem here, but it usually doesn’t carry over in the fighting games cirtuit. Could be because here there’s a strong connection between fighting games and the otaku community, and the latter is usually very friendly to both genders, so fighting games the same thing.
The biggest problem here could be aggressive competition but it’s usually represented by gossips and criticisms to other players/fans behind their backs.
The most similar thing to “racism” or whatever could be the constant fight between “hardcore KOF 2002 Magic Plus players” and the ones who criticize them (same thing with Street Fighter IV). But it’s probably just an extension of the classic Capcom Vs SNK war that has been lived here since late nineties.
