Anime in the pejorative sense does not = ALL japanese animation. It means little schoolgirls with big eyes, western features, rainbow haircolors, and annoying ass voices, drawn to whatever bust size the creator feels like jerking off to that day. Oftentimes they are accompanied by dorky japanese dudes w/ glasses that get awkward when they see them in compromising poses.
This craptastic anime art style is just fucking awful. If you can go to any convention and there are hundreds of wannabe artists who can totally draw in this art style, but can’t draw a fucking piece of fruit. That this art style ALSO emphasizes Japan’s well documented loli obsession, and that adds to the insult.
Stuff like Hokuto No Ken and JoJo’s are completely different art styles. Funny that they both hail from a time when a lot of Manga/Anime was actually good.
I like Guilty Gear over Blazblu because of the complexity, and in that the art style went to shit down that Anime style path. KOF has seriously flirted with it, and certainly loses points because of it.
If the west constantly gets images of hentai and other shit… drawn in this art style, how else are they going to react to games being drawn in it besides negatively?
I played arcana and someone saw me and asked about it, and “Tentacle Rape Porn” got mentioned within 3 conversation jumps. That’s not a conversation I want to have around my girlfriend or family.
Bottom line: a lot of guys in the West can be construed as hyper masculine, or at least want to preserve that image. They play their Halo and Gears of War, and sometimes buy fighters. When they do buy fighters, it makes them million sellers, like Street Fighter IV or Mortal Kombat.
They DON’T wanna play games filled with 13 year old girls full of upskirt shots. That’s some Sandusky shit right there.

70-90s Japanese art style is not considered anime for some reason by alot of people, while 2005-Present is anime, because all the uguu~ stuff that started from then on that very few like. It was always present, but was never this dominate in the industry as it is now.
