There’s more a discrimination against anime than discrimination against anime fighting games. Nothing hard to understand considering how the anime industry is now invaded with moe moe crap that not everyone like.
Well, watching goku charge the spirit bomb for 5 episodes is pretty slow. Especially when that shit airs weekly
Thread starter: grandabx.
Quality of thread: likely terrible.
Check to confirm and… huh, surprisingly, not that bad, despite grandabx doing his “lol I’m a flameeater” thing.
Anywho, for me, I want a fighter to play well and be aesthetically appealing. The latter means I can get into its various characters, the art and sound, etc. The former is more important, but the latter still matters, so let’s talk about that. A lot of so-called “anime fighters” tend to feature character design I personally find one or more of the following: boring, disturbing, masturbatory. Example: Arcana Heart, where the girls are drawn and animated to cater to, let’s say, a “certain demographic.” Compare to Skullgirls, which actually parodies that entire idea and has fun with it, in addition to giving every one of its much smaller cast huge amounts of flavor. (Admittedly Arcana Heart characters are interesting if you get past the blush layers and pedo-appeal.)
I always liked Melty Blood’s aesthetic. The characters and setting seems interesting and sufficiently not disturbing (yes, I know what Tsukihime is). Also the aforementioned Skullgirls. And Street Fighter in general.
Going to go eat toast or cereal or something.
they don’t have to like them. i’m just curious why?
I never really got the anime hate I dont care what art style a game uses as long as it looks cool and the game is solid I also think sf is pretty much anime
This infuriates me more than anything else when it comes to generalizations about anime.

There’s always a few dozen shows that absolutely no one will remember that counters that, just because they’re not as controversial.
Its like how Twilight and Avatar are still grounded in our minds while stuff like District 9 and almost every obscure winner will be completely ignored.
And god damn it, moe is like “cool”, anything can be it in the right context.
But yeah, this thread is doomed.
EDIT: Though I will defend Melty at least.
Miyako and the maids are clear lethal jokes, while both incarnations of Len give the impression they’d die like bitches without magic…which she does in her VN.
No super kawaii 14 year old nudging me with her fist very slowly like AH3 and I’m supposed to expect to stagger from that. And I LOVE AH3.
Everyone else has seen some shit go down, and actually fight like they’re trying to disable an opponent and/or using the best of their ability. I’m more scared of Satsuki hunting me down than Hugo and Zangief combined just from the audible snap her grabs have.
I fucking hate you.
Usually it’s visual. Sometimes it’s the gameplay. Mostly visual though - it’s clear most that dismiss anime games never even played them.
Keep in mind that in America, people only consider a character to be a fighter if they are physically built for fighting. If they are not built like a rock, then most dismiss that fighters as being lame, stupid, etc. In America, realism is king. Less realistic = less believable, so it sucks.
Meanwhile in Japan, quirky is king. Seeing super-muscular guys beating the shit out of something is passe - there’s nothing unusual about it, so why bother wasting time on it? Seeing a shy grade-school girl beat somebody up ‘accidentally’ by tripping on to them or something is considered unusual, so they find that entertaining. More realistic = boring, so it sucks.
It’s a matter of culture. It’s why most American sci-fi games feature bald space marines wielding bulky bullet-based sub-machine guns exploring monochrome environments (usually varying shades of brown), while most Japanese sci-fi games feature teenagers with crazy hair wielding highly stylized weapons ranging from high-tech bow & arrows to lightsabers exploring extremely colorful environments.
MvC2 is The Beautiful Game
It annoys me when games are called anime fighters when they’re not based on a anime or manga series. Fuck that it looks like anime so call it anime shit.
why should we care again?
So you’re saying almost all “anime” fighters are just called anime purely on art style when almost every fighter with relevance does as well, and anime isn’t a style upon itself to begin with? [S]I agree sir, and respect your fellow rebuttal, despite it being a common one.[/S]
No, fuck that faux gangsta shit. You gotta have suspicion of disbelief the other way around too.
Their heavy asses shouldn’t even be able to **move **without losing of decades of lifespan, yet there’s less sense of weight and power with them.
I don’t like “anime games” because I don’t find their aesthetic cool. I don’t discriminate… I just play shit I find appealing and don’t play shit I find unappealing. I don’t think anime girls are cool… that is all. Am I ignorant now? I find most anime girls portrayed in modern anime or games quite creepy really… their cuteness is so exaggerated that I don’t even buy them as human characters, they are just stereotypes pandering to a fetish I don’t have.

someone linked this pic above, none of this looks cool to me (save for berserk, love berserk :))
It’s not about anime it’s about cutsey girly art direction. If you like it, more power to you, I’m sure you dislike a lot of shit I like, and that’s cool…different strokes and all, but how you gonna act surprised when cutsey girly stuff doesn’t appeal to a crowd of mostly young adult western men, it’s obviously not aimed at the street fighter demographic.
That’s why we have the shonen demographic. Again, people just aren’t looking and don’t buy enough to justifying importing them.
You can even look at the other pic. http://chartfag.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/1294936822627.jpg
"A show about real life marketability of the super hero, right down to actual sponsors adding their logos to the characters."
“The first anime directed towards senior citizens.”
“A Japanese boxing team explores the world, ending at one of the originators of the competition fighting sport, Greece”
“X-men the anime”
This isn’t anything new.
You don’t even have to like it, but like every other generation, you can blame the fad and the fact most anime is shit, and that will always be the case.
People got tired of DEEP and giant robot shows, so they made action shows, people got tired of action shows, so they made sci-fi and fantasy shows, people got tired of that, so here we are now.
I hate anime. I hate doujins. I hate obsessive fanservice. I hate 2D anime bitches in general. I love fighting games. Problem?
Anime fighters are gay and only faggots play them.
There, I just spoke for the majority of SRK.
Fuck it. I had something long and drawn out here.
Point is: at least for me, it’s not the games. It’s the people that generally play the game that I don’t like.
