people clearly forgot the point of this topic.
Oops, then to get back on subject with my earlier posts, strider is a boss.
Eh…I dunno. I guess there was no way to prove Strider as being a possibly strong character without comparison to other characters. We definitely shouldn’t have carried it on that long though and there definitely needs to be stuff more centric to Zero than comparing him to being a mirror of other high tiers etc.
He’s gonna be really good on point and assist no matter which way you slice it and that’s what counts. Having a point game that good and assists that good was a rare trait in Vanilla but seems like Strider has got it made in the point+assist utility department and that’s what I like best about him so far.
So I was disappointed with Strider until I realized how amazing his vijra assist is… It shuts down run away, great for mix-up and even works as a combo starter/ender for most characters… I’m still struggling with his damage and resets at the moment but I get alot of mileage out of him in the anchor spot. He spends the whole match helping Viper zone (2 seismos, Strider assist hits, 2 more seismos is almost a 400k damage full screen combo!). He then protects Dr. Doom’s blind spots, than he comes out with lvl 3 xfac and ourobors to clean up whatever is left.
I really hope some nice solid BnBs that lead into resets are discovered
This is retarded. I don’t care if we saw Wolverine a 100 times, if a Zero players comes out of the woodwork and beats a bunch of top players for free, and clearly demonstrates that Zero has better tools than most other characters, and beats Wolverine and Wesker CONVINCINGLY, it’s hard to argue that he’s not better than them.
Also Viper only won one major, does that mean she’s lower tiered than she hulk? Dante never won, I guess he’s garbage tier, time to go pickup Wolverine and Wesker. Oh wait
Strider was a character who could put on some major pressure in MVC2. Ouruboros and a decent assist could lock your opponent down in a corner at best or at worst have such an annoying Strider that it would drive your opponent to loose his cool, giving you more openings. However, now that hes back its not the same.
Zero was the new Strider in vanilla MVC3. In a way, I wasnt willing to see or admit that. What makes Zero annoying is that he is able to keep the pressure on, build meter quickly and deal a good amount of damage. Like many others who are trying to figure UMVC3 Strider out, I (1) havent found a way to deal out a decent amount of damage without burning x-factor or burning a ton of meter. Nor (2) have I found a good team to build long block strings on. Now that ouruboros is a lvl 3 move, I feel forced to anchor Strider in the third slot. Im sure once I break him open, he could be lethal on point though. His mix ups are good, but I feel the key to breaking him open are going to resets and the right assists, assuming you want to run him on point.
Many people online are treating Strider as Phoenix, lvl 3 xfactor + ouruboros is a beastly combination and a real bitch to deal with. Because people are expecting you do this, they go on the defensive or they try to snap him in to kill him early. Which I think gives you an advantage.
Have you tried Dante’s weasel shot and Amaterasu’s cold star? You could force the opponent to block the a st.H and call an assist at the same time, forcing them to be on the ground and giving you enough time to teleport and do a double jump mix-up. I kind of like cold star over weasel shot in that scenario, since it lasts longer and you have enough time to get a formation B bomb out before teleporting, but weasel shot has great utility outside of that too, since it covers a bigger range. Frank West’s shopping cart is also a good lock-down assist, since it comes out quite fast, but the duration is short and it’s quite close range.
As for resets… you could look at Spencer’s slant shot to avoid the roll teching, but it’s kind of hard to do with teleporting, since if you catch them with slant shot in the air, you’ll end up teleporting to where they were in the air, and if you wait for them to get on the ground, they can chicken block or possibly air throw.
We only had 9 months of MvC3 and a lot of characters weren’t fully fleshed out because of it. Do not expect this character to be fleshed out 2 fucking weeks into the game being released. As far as I’m concerned, we can only speculate on the what the top teams would look like for MvC3 since we didn’t get to really play it out.
Really though, 2 weeks and people are bitching about Strider, god damn this place has gone retarded.
What do you guys think of Strider’s keepaway game? I know that he is a in your face 50/50 character but his 214x series comes out so fast, he can have multiple on the screen, and they cover a decent amount of space.
Ive been playing UMvC3 strider nonstop since the game came out i have around 600+ games with him. I feel he is tough to break open, his combos arent the easiest and they do shit damage. but his mix ups are amazing especially on incoming characters. but it is frusturating getting hit by a random slide by frank then him doing a ABC combo to kill u. Right now i think hes good and usable but more of a B- range. Im waiting to see clockwork and other pros use him, not many top players are using him. i know floe is but havent seen any great gameplay yet, so yeah give it time
but he was fun to play as day one.
i dont understand how anyone could be dissapointed with him. hes awesome.
Well to the naysayers…let strider’s technology do the talking in the near future.
All I’ma say is, tier listing is pretty stupid from any of us, and would be tailored to personal preferences before core mechanics. If any one is making any semblance of a tier list, it should be a well seasoned player that knows the in and outs of gameplay up to current. The only person I could see up to the task right now at this time is Clockw0rk (not even Max, or Justin Wong, none of those kats).
I will also say this. Strider has 750k health for a reason. Sooner or later he’s gonna show everyone why.
The fact people are still posting in a thread about a guy’s bad first impression of a character and not posting in the reset thread makes me sad.
We should be trying to discover stuff first, tiering later.
I always thought that people were more in love with the idea of Strider from watching Clock play Marvel 2, then they were with Strider the character, if that makes sense. People just need to accept him for what he is, which is a pretty solid character, just not the I WIN button people were maybe expecting.
Strider doesn’t feel like a glass cannon at all. He feels more like a glass uzi. Fast, Incredibly inaccurate and deals really no damage. All the good aspect of strider was given to mutiple characters in vanilla. mvc2 strider had great teleport positioning, wesker took it. Strider was self sufficient at creating and using meter, zero took that. Strider had good in your face solo pressure, and dante took that. Now that strider is back, they gave orbs to vergil. So strider is suppose to some kind of good mixup game. Almost nothing he does is safe, and he requires assists that hold the opponent down for 1-2 seconds so strider can setup a real mixup.
I think its pretty insulting to have mvc2 strider which was an on point character, be turned into an anchor. He needs to have xfactor, he needs to have 3 bars to be considered a real threat.
There’s so much wrong with this I’m not sure where to start. Strider can deal damage. His week 1 damage is already breaking 1 mil for 3 bars, 900k for two.
Strider’s teleport couldn’t possibly have better positioning. It tracks wherever they are on the screen. If they super jump it will still catch them. All you have to do is cover 10 frames of recovery, which he has 3 ways of doing solo and infinite overlapping ways with assists, and you have ambiguity in a can. Yo dawg, I heard you like mix ups, so Capcom gave Strider a shallow double jump so you can mix up inside your mix ups.
Strider’s solo pressure has never been better. Formation B is a buster shot that doesn’t need charging, comes out in two frames and is cancelable from his only unsafe moves Ame no Murakamo and Gram. And are you really complaining Strider has no solo mix up? Do I even need to explain how wrong that is?
And calling Vergil’s spiral swords the new orbs is pure youtube comment. The entire premise of Ouroboros is that its a passive firing projectile that gives full screen lock down. Vergil’s swords are not projectiles. They don’t cover full screen. For two bars he can fire them as projectiles, but then they aren’t passive and function more as blockstring enders. He can’t simultaneously throw out a normal or special as he fires the sword as he enters a pointing animation whenever he fires one, therefore lacking the entire utility of Ouroboros. Even if it was passive, the screen coverage is so much worse. It’s so easy to escape that it would at best be a ghettoe Ouroboros.
The only thing that you said that is true is that he can’t self sufficiently maintain orbs, but even that is missing the point. Strider is not just orbs now. Deal with it. Everything has been improved and he works on any spot in a team, its just that Ouroboros costs 3 meters and he doesn’t live or die by it like he used to.
I completely agree with you. The lack of priority and range on his normals, coupled with his already shitty damage, puts him in a slightly above average tier. Mix ups are good, but without damage they really don’t do much.
SLX: you hit the nail on the head. He’s one of the best assists in the game. Shuts down runaway almost completely. Should almost always be a last character for XFC 3 and Ourouboros. On point he is completely assist reliant. Has a horrible jump/drop speed. Sucky level 1 super, so no safe dhcs in or out, yup. Without Drones he can’t do much.
You need to get yourself a woman. Why so serious and argumentative?
