Disadvantage to SRK shortcut?

Hey all, trying to up my game a bit and I recently discovered the dragon punch short-cut motion - :df::df:

It’s started to become a bit of a habit when I’m trying to shoryuken mid-combo, is there any downside to this? is it considered a bad habit?

The downside is that you might accidently get a super when you don’t want to.

You could get an accidental super with the true motion for the same reason you could with the shortcut.

If you’re on a pad, don’t give two shits.

If you’re on a stick, you’ll get fucked in other games.

Use whatever works for you.

It is not possible to get super from mashing the shortcut.

I can’t crouch attack xx SRK without the shortcut

It’s usually the reverse for me: I get srks when trying to do supers/ultras more than I get supers from mashing/spamming srk motion.

To me, it’s in the game so I have no problem going for the convience, but I always try to do it the “right way” until I can depend on it all the time.

I really hate the shortcuts in this game. I understand for new comers, but it makes it easier for a scrub to mash buttons and do a SRK command. -_-’

I hope they don’t do that to MvC3

df, df is not a shortcut for dp in either sf4 or ssf4

It’s a bad habit. There’s nothing to say that mashing shortcuts will work in future games (or past), so might as well get used to it now.

That’s actually what I’ve thought for a while now. It was the only explanation of why/how certain combos and such could exist in the game, and why they don’t/have not yet existed in other games.

I used to think that SFIV would ruin my execution in other games but it hasn’t really. It felt like it did at first, but that was just because I was still in an SFIV frame of mind so I ended up trying to crouch tech ST block strings or trying to FA in games that don’t have it lol. But once I realize I’m not play SFIV any more everything is the same. In fact, instead of SFIV ruining my execution in other games, I’d say that playing other games helped improve my execution in SFIV.

I’m not sure I really trust that thread. First of all, according to jchensors explanation, that shortcut would only be available in SF4, and I know it works in 3s, cause I use it.

Second, there isn’t really anything that proves df, df doesn’t work, it just assumes the reader thinks df, d, df was df, df.

Regardless, it’s probably more helpful/useful to think of it as d/f, d, d/f, instead of d/f, d/f.

Yeah I agree. df, df feels more awkward to me.

i thought for sure the uppercut motion was df d df d df d df d df d df d df hp hp hp hp hp

It is

Its A bad habit. You should get Better to the original DP Motion so you can execute it faster if you cant already. Trust me in a long run it will help you with other fighting games. That shortcut Nonsense (If you choose to use it)might screw you skills up on other fighting games.

I can assure you that df, df doesn’t work. I’ve looked at the disassembled code from the PC version and a DP needs 3 directional inputs. df, df, df does work though.
