Ok I found a video online that seems to confirm that shortcut doesn’t work. You guys were correct!
IMO, use the shortcut. Just like double-tapping or plinking, it can make your combos more consistent by lowering the execution barrier. Especially for more difficult combos. You want to be worried about hitting that link, not the cancel.
Semantics…
You can do a dragon punch without an “only forward” input, and a super with only one “only forward” input…
When people say df, df… half the time they’re referirng to df,d, df…
I can’t believe people are still arguing the whole “df, df” bit… cooperate ffs.
So obviously the other half of the time they’re talking about df, df. Like in this case. Yours was one of the most pointless posts I’ve read in a while.
I’d also suggest minimizing the joystick input (if you are a stick user that is). Don’t push the stick all the way to the end for the directions and you should get a faster, more fluid DP.
This also applies to unintentional supers/ultras since if you put too much force on the stick, it can cause you to inadvertently perform a DP, possibly costing the match.
DF, DF is not practical since not all fighting games (?) will be like this and this could cause you to execute a super/ultra (if you’re using the three button shortcuts on TE sticks)
Its better to get the DP motion down to a muscle reflex. It took me forever when I was a kid. But it pays off against jump happy scrubs.
I’d like to say that the shortcut is a bad habit and that you shouldn’t use it, but for some things it feels like you have to (namely canceling dps out of crouching attacks). 90 percent of the time I try to do cr. fierce xx ex. seismo with the normal motion a super will come out, especially at the end of FFF. With that said I don’t have a problem executing special moves in other games so that argument doesn’t hold a lot of weight for me.
as people have said, it can develop bad habits (i guess)
but if you are playing enough it probably will not throw you off as much as people usually imply
just use them both situationally and you won’t run into any problems in any game, the shortcut is there to make this game easier (easy crouching DPs, deep aa srks, etc)
as for your specific question, it can cause some problems with some chars(bison for example) in which the shortcut will override what you want, and you’ll get a teleport instead of an ultra
if you’re talking about JUST doing a shoryuken then no. there’s no disadvantage. however, if you want to learn shoryuken xx shinkuu hadouken you’re gonna screw yourself.
Actually, no. You can input 2x QCF motions with :d::df::d::df::r:, so you can cancel a shortcut DP from the crouching position with a super.
i think it’s easier to do :r::d::df: + P for the SRK, then just follow with :d::df::r: + P to cancel into super. if he’s doing the shortcut then he’s probably tapping on the joystick instead of doing a fluid motion.
