I like how theres a lot of discussion going on here. Anyway, I thought Id chime in on a few things that have been brought up.
First, off of a stun or focus, the best option is almost always to go for the biggest damage combo. In many situations the better option for Bison is to go for a mixup. The main reason is that Bisons damage output is abysmal for how much we have to put in, and getting in a throw or a reset allows to make up for that; however, a focus means were doing 337/500 (LV3 FA HP xx PC) or 281/420 (LV2 FA c. MP, cr. MK xx HP). Its substantial damage, and as someone before me said, if you tack on a st. roundhouse somewhere in the round, youre looking at around 400 damage, and a combo/few hits away from stun.
While I think ending combos in PC or SK is really just about what one prefers, I feel it depends on the situation whether one is better than the other. I find stun to be very important, because stunning someone translates into more damage. Most of the time midscreen, Ill end in a PC. I actually dont find the position youre left in awkward. It leaves you just outside of st. HK range, and gives you enough time to walk up and pressure, throw, etc. When near a corner, Im very happy to end in SC to start pushing to the corner.
Since Bisons combo repertoire is filled with 1 and 2 frame links, I understand why people would want to shy off of getting down things like cr. lk links or the cr. mp, cr. mk off of jump-ins. Its important because when you do get a chance to do damage, you want to make sure you do the best thing possible. Cr. lk vs. cr. lp is mainly about frame data. Cr. lp comes out in 4 frames, while cr. lk comes out in 3 frames, which means youll stuff out more of your opponents moves with it. The hit box properties are also different; 3x cr. lk has more range than 2x lp, cr. lk. Off of some crossups, youll be too far away to do the cr. lp combo into SK, but the 3x cr. lk one will reach. On the frame data aspect, I could go all day about matchups and footsies with it over cr. lp, but Ill just give you some examples. Any of you that have played against Gen extensively know one of your most important tools vs. him is your cr. lk. Since it comes out in 3 frames, it will beat out his sick st. mk and then tack on some cr. lks and finish with a SK. Vs. rog on wakeup, a good option is meaty cr. lk. While cr. mk works fine, you cant hit confirm into a sk with it. Meaty cr. lk/mk stuffs anything non-ex that rog can do, including headbutt. If you hit, you can tack on more cr. lks and end with SK, tick throw, etc; if rog blocks you can just stop or go for the tick throw. Off of a cr. mk you pretty much have to go for the SK (assuming you have the charge) and on block your at too far a distance to quickly tick throw. Its all about options.
On whether to end in a SK or just combo into st. hk: Knowing the links into st. hk is important because of the damage output, Ive found that comboing into a knockdown is generally the more useful thing, for me at least. Knocking down lets you pressure the opponent more, and thats what Im more inclined to do with Bison. Basically what Im saying here is MASTER YOUR LINKS. I know its hard; it took me from February to June to have them all down 100% (BOOO school), and I still spend time in training mode practicing them to make sure that in a real match I dont think I hope I dont miss this link.
Marcus does that combo for the style points. The first time, he needlessly wastes a bar for ex PC, and had he not have added on a 3rd hit before the cr. mk, there would have been less scaling on the ender and he might have just killed the Viper in that combo. Im a fan of FADCing for position/resets/momentum, though. Its not usually the wise thing to do, but it does push them to the corner, allows you to stop mid-way to tick throw, and takes away time that your opponent could have spent pushing more buttons. Everyone likes pushing buttons. The more time your opponent spends not pushing buttons the more annoyed your opponent will feel.
Hm That was a tad bit longer than I thought itd be Ill try to stick my head in here more often, too, as well as in the other Bison threads. I didnt know we had so many new Bison players. <3 The Bison Batallion.
