uh that’s kind of a waste guys… if u don’t have ultra just do one j.mp… so u can land and s.hp_hk… only do j.mp x2 if u have ultra… and for that do the second ‘mp’ on reaction like a hit confirm… so that if u see that u guessed wrong and the opponent is still standing u still have a chance to do the second ‘mp’ before landing and continue with a safe scissors block string… that is if hopefully u don’t eat a dp fadc ultra before landing lol…
I like to do j mp (1 hit), land, s close hp because it gives me a better frame advantage. It gives enough time to do a relatively safe dash in c lk. However, it is harder to time and in some cases you may not be able to do it just given the startup if you hit them when they’re low to the ground (like when you’re coming down and they’re going up). Damage is the same as s hk iirc.

I don’t think anybody did such a list in this thread. But I’m curious as to why you ask this, when can people FA a close s.hp?
I’m also curious because I wasn’t aware that the combo whiffs on anybody. It would really suck too, because that’s basically Bison’s biggest damage combo outside Ultra.
sometimes I whiff on Chun, even in practice mode. When I hit it the sk whiffs. I think maybe cl. hp, cr. lk xx sk might work better, im not sure. It might just be my timing but it happens a lot with Chun for me…I’ll try it out later. I’m too tired of playing, just got worked by E. Honda. I’ve actually gotten better with Guile but E. Honda is my worst matchup yet. He scares me more than Gief. That lp beat out my EX psycho on one hit and I just said fk it and turned off the xbox
cl hp, c lk xx sk obviously does less damage than cl hp xx sk since you can do hk scissors after cl hp. I haven’t noticed the sk missing after the cl hp before…Maybe it happens on skinny characters?
what exactly is the combo you’re using? The only times I can think of where close s.hp is used, either it can be immediately followed up by hk SK(won’t whiff on anyone), or it’s some kind of reset where nothing’s guaranteed.
- successful jump-in, s.hp xx hk scissors
- FA crumple dash, s.hp xx hk scissors
- anti-air s.hp -> aerial reset -> mixups
- opponent whiffs big move like hp SRK, lands next to you, s.hp xx hk scissors
I did some testing and I can see what laud meant by whiffing cs.hp xx h.sk on chun. She falls downwards fairly quickly, so you have less time to hit the fierce before it’ll whiff over her.
However, the combo still works, the timing is just stricter.
I have a feeling that the same effect happens with other characters, but I’ll find out with more testing.
okay I finally know what you’re talking about. You meant FA crumple -> s.hp xx scissor would sometimes whiff. I originally thought you mean the s.hp would whiff if chun-li goes into FA animation.
I just tested this, and it looks like yet another hitbox quirk. There are two stages for falling in the FA crumple animation. The first stage is going from standing to their knees hit the floor, the second stage goes from knees to head hits the floor. Any attack that lands from the hit of the FA until the end of the first stage will count as a combo, anything that lands in stage 2 counts as a reset. From what I’ve noticed, the whiff only happens for chun-li during the first stage. If I do s.hp before the first stage begins, there’s no whiff. I’ve also tried this on rest of the female cast, all the small characters, and blanka. Only chun-li seem to be doing this…
You should always be timing your s.hp as they go into second stage anyways. It’s the latest you can hit them without resetting, and ensures you a full charge. I’ve never had it whiff on anyone.
Same problem against Sim as well.
After further testing, cs.hp xx h.sk has stricter timing on:
-Chun
-Dan
-Sim
With Sim having the strictest timing.

What are you guys using as a decent punish? a hk or mk poke, just isnt exciting at all.

If you don’t have charge, you can do cr.mp, st.hk, but it has to be close and you need to be good at linking.
Dictator’s ex fadc sucks pretty hard, but you could do s mp ex fadc c lk scissors combo or tick throw just to keep it fresh.
c mp, s hk is good as boogalogist said, you also have s lk, s lk, s hk or c mp, c mk
I think fa level 1 is a poor choice unless you have to absorb a hit to punish, such as guile’s sweep (even though for most instances you can c lk…sometimes he seems too far away).
sometimes I manage a standing fierce xx scissor kick. For some reason as far as focus attacks go, I can get the timing much more consistently with a FA dash and cl. fierce, c. lk xx sk. I saw it in a video recently and I always sucked at the just straight fierce xx sk, could get it maybe 60 percent of the time. Now with the c.lk thrown in there I can get it 70-80. c.lk xx sk is just burned into my mind so I think that’s what makes it easier for me.
also for whiffed shoryukens, s. fierce, s. lk, s. rh, no charge required, timings a bit strict but for some reason I find it easier than c. lp, s.lk x2, s. rh
