DAMN, the open beta just went down. Fuck man, I thought I had more time.
So its over already?
Yeah, it was just a server stress test before May 15th release.
So during the beta I played a Monk and Demon Hunter through act 1. I played the monk solo and the Demon Hunter in a group.
The monk was unkillable… seriously… Once I hit I think level 6 where you can turn your base attack from the punch to the three hit combo where each hit gets more range… it was over. Then I got heal and Leoric would hit me and hit me and at level 10 every 15 seconds I pressed a button and was back at full health. I could see eventually building a monk to be like a protection or holy priest in WoW and just being the super support guy (although this could be very effective I question how fun it would be in a Diablo 3 type experience)
Demon Hunter seemed flat out broke… Seriously? Machine gun skill to kill everything? There were four demon hunters in my group and when we got to Leoric we literally all just rapid fired him down in no time flat. It was hilarious. Although I have a request to all Demon Hunter players… please dear lord stop your quick boosts and leaving the party, the rest of us want to play with you, not follow while you kill everything?
I wanted to try the Wizard but didn’t have a chance. Barbarian seems more interesting to me than in D2. I’m not sure why but I have zero interest in the Witch Doctor. Anyone play one and want to try to convince me?
I enjoyed WD a lot. Especially after you get the zombie dog suicide bomb. I had fun snaring stuff with Grasp of the Dead, and blasting them down with my dart gun. I also liked how the zombie dogs would block paths and hold aggro.
I liked the Witch Doctor but I dont care if you play one or not.
I didnt even get on while the beta was open to the public. I updated that shit like a week or two ago but never played it.
Hey guys, this is Normal difficulty, everyone should be able to kill everything. Diablo 2 had a ton of skills which outright owned Normal, but fail miserably by the time one reaches hell or sometimes even nightmare difficulties. (Synergies changed everything)
I only played a witch doctor and I agree about the zombie dogs and sacrifice. I played a couple of different styles and I got into a groove of doing King Leoric runs, upgrading the craft and trying things out.
Witch doctor seems really safe and it will be my first character. But over-all things were too easy to tell which was the most effective style of play.
Elective mode should be made more obvious, but it is just a check box and hopefully it will stay permanent once I first install D3 and check it.
I did have a couple of bugs on my OS X macbook pro:
- When starting up the game, the title screen has ~15% CPU usage. When I return to the title screen after I am done playing it uses ~115% cpu (or 100% of one cpu + 15% of another). This is means a thread is stuck in an infinite loop.
- If I didn’t return to the title screen and switch to windowed mode, and then I tried to quit, it would lock up and I wouldn’t be able to even force quit Diablo 3. I had to hard shut down with the power button.
Other than that, it ran fairly smooth. I would expect it to always run smoothly on my machine, but I did notice a large increase in the number of things occurring on the screen at any time, when compared with Diablo 2.
fuck…i thought for sure demonhunter was my shit, i had the most fun on that class. but i was so surprised by the barbarian, it left a long lasting impression on me, did not expect to get such a fun character since i hated the barb in D2. and wizard ended up being boring to me until i hit lvl13 and got that tornado shit, my god that + spirit bomb was gg in beta, lol. hmm, dunno who to create first on release day anymore.
Hey guys, I’m gonna start out a new thread so we can start fresh with battletags and whatnot, since this thread was more of a hodge podge.
The open beta is done and now I’m very sad. Do I really have to wait like three weeks!?!
We’ll use the other diablo 3 thread from now on.
