I guess most people don’t know that SC2 only uses a modified Warcraft 3 engine.

That’s like having a computer that runs Quake 3 more than perfectly, but dropping another 5 grand to play Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (or some other game on the quake 3 engine).

Bought this in 2005. I wouldn’t mind upgrading the CPU and the RAM to 2 GB. Besides that i’m not sure what to do… How would you review my computer for SC2 or D3?

I need to upgrade real bad as well, mostly in the my GPU and CPU, but I need a new motherboard because mine doesn’t support multi-core processors. Man, being broke and a PC gamer sucks so much dick.

Blizzard said it when they announced it at last years WWI. Both Warcraft 3 and SC2 went into production around the same time. The proprietary engine is the same, but with enhancements.

Look at the video’s. Different art styles aside, it looks and moves just like WC3.

Unfortunately i’m not very computer saavy in terms of building my own computer, and I don’t want to waste too much money on buying another dell. I would have to check my motherboard specs (I don’t know how) to see if it will take dual core processors. That would be great if it did because I wouldn’t have to do much upgrading.

It’s a dell? Try to stay away from those name-brand PC’s, they cost a lot for no reason whatsoever. Custom built is always better so if you can find someone you trust that won’t rip you off then that’ll be the way to go. Those name brands might have some sort of upgrade option so you might want to look into that.

I’d recommend avadirect.com for a custom-built PC. I’ve had mine for about a year with no issues at all. They also have tons of great reviews on various customer-support sites.

I’ve bought my past two laptops from them and they’ve been great. I build my own desktops, but my cousin ordered a desktop from them and has been really happy with it.

If you were to buy a new PC now, I’m sure it would run Diablo 3. But if you were to buy that same PC when D3 actually comes out, you will save like 400$ because D3 isn’t coming out for like 2 years.

I like the reasoning behind this. If anything, what people should start doing is putting a little money aside each month for a top notch computer to purchase a month before the games come out.

Yeah, but I think the point is, they are not normally PC gamers and just want the PC to play D3. If they are upgrading for D3 specificly, there is no point to upgrade now when the game isn’t coming out for who knows how long.

you’re due for an upgrade man. A good way to gauge system performance is use benchmarking software such as Futuremark (get the 07 edition or 08 if there is one) and that will tell you what generation of games will run on your computer.

You need a dual-core these days (and not just the lowest spec ones either. Another gig of RAM if you are running Vista, and the video card can be upgraded to a Geforce 9600GT which is the current powerhouse budget card right now. You might as well have to get a new mobo, graphics and cpu, RAM as far as upgrade goes, it all depends on your motherboard and whats capable of being installed on it. If the documentation says it supports dual-core and you have a PCI-E 16x port then youll have a cheaper upgrade.

The 8800 is about the same price as the 9600, and a better option. They’re both fairly the same, but the 8800 just has tiny bit higher specs overall, so you should try looking into those instead.
For processors, dual core is needed. Quadcores no, since nothing it optimized for them. If you have an AMD, the 5000+'s only go for around 80 bucks on sites. Intels have a much bigger variety so go crazy.
Ram’s pretty cheap nowadays, since alot of em come with rebates if you know where to look, I got 2 gigs of OCZ DDR2 gold edition 800Mhz ram for only 30 bucks.

Most of the current Mobos use DDr2, unless you get a very very very recent high end one. Which might have DDR3 but that shit is ridiculous. Don’t worry if the GPU says DDR3 or PCI-2.0, since it’s BC with PCIX16, and DDR3 works regardless. \

Question, does having the same GPU on a PCIX2.0 system really make that much of a different performance wise? Just out of curiosity.

they might be now but shortly after I finished shopping for video cards, the 9600GT came out but the 8800GTX and GT’s were still higher priced than 9600’s.

I want to see custom classes, with multiple skill tree’s. Something crazy like disgea 2. It’s weird, but selecting my char in d2 was always the funnest part for me.
