Dhalsim's Matchups

Any advice on Cammy divekick pressure? It seems that unless I have meter to use EX yoga blast or yoga inferno, she gets all that chip damage for free and there’s almost no way out with her super quick focus attack that eats your limbs, then eventually I either get grabbed or hit. Option select crouch grab doesn’t seem to work that well, but maybe I’m just not timing my presses correctly.

Cammy’s really scary close up, and she’s really good at getting in. The number one tip against dive kicks is don’t let her get close, but since that is going to happen there are some things you can do, all of them are risky but you will have to take risks. She does not deal a terrible amount of damage from her combos so taking a bad risk is not gg:

  • Try focusing her dive kicks actually, if they come from high in the air you’ll be able to punish them. If they’re close to the ground (i.e she’s up in your face tiger kneeing them) she can recover and punish but you can actually escape her pressure by absorbing the dive kick and immediately backdashing, if the Cammy is not prepared for it she will go for her usual lp/lk pokes allowing you a wee bit of distance. If she is prepared or OS’ing you will eat spike or drill which is not a full combo so IMO it’s worth the risk to see how the person you are playing reacts, if it works use it twice or thrice, once she punishes it stop immediately.

  • Slide under if they are not too close to the ground, hard for her to do something about a well timed slide except for cannon spike which you can punish if you block it. You can be hit out of slide so only works on anticipation of the dive kick.

  • KKK teleport back if you are not in the corner, if you are in the corner with EX then EX up blast for the trade and put some distance to see if you can regain some control, if you are in the corner with no EX then ggpo.

  • b.mp can trade with it, take the risk a lot of times and lose some matches, eventually you can learn to knock her back with it, it is reliable if you can pull it off but hard to pull off.

  • and finally, weirldy enough, if you tech a throw, this will negate her pressure, put some space between you, and allow you some breathing room. When that tech comes either get the fuck away or start zoning her immediately with your usual closerange game of b.mk, b.mp, b.lk, hp fire.

In the end short of teleporting you will have to take risks that are not in your favour, ^these^ are the options i’m aware of, learn them and learn to escape her insane divekick pressure with hopefully only a small amount of life lost.

I thought Vega was 5-5 myself until I played a good one. My friend who I haven’t played in a while and he 0-8 me a couple days ago. Vega pokes are too godlike. So I agree with 6-4 vega.

Also, Seth 5-5? I figured Seth was 6-4 Seth. I find good Seths really hard to deal with.

One thing, I don’t agree on is bison 5-5. If vega is 6-4, I don’t see how bison can be 5-5. Maybe it’s just my local scenes. I have more trouble against the bison than the vega players. Just my IMHO.

^ Maybe b/c your local Bison player is a complete Dic. How do you fair against Lug3r?

I am a complete dic, frapy…:badboy: and stop QQ’ing, kiet!..

Just to double check, but these are with Dhalsim in the right column, correct?

I think Dhalsim vs Rose is 6-4 in Dhalsim’s favour. When you know the timing on AA her, she can’t jump at you. You can easily trade with her fireball, and even hit her with fierce and recover before your own reflected fireball hits you.

There is no reason to let her get in, and if you use U2 and absorbs some fireballs etc, there is suddenly nothing she can do at all… She cant jump, throw fireballs, reflect, absorb, neutral jump etc. She can focus absorb fireballs and backdash, but then she puts herself in the corner in no time.

Yup. The numerical placement is odd. Believe me, you’re not the only one was initially confused. But like i mentioned before, I only disagree with a few of Ryan’s match-ups. Somebody mentioned Seth in this thread too… and I have a pretty difficult time as well against quality Seths. I think it’s slightly in Seth’s favor. Seth’s mixups can be pretty damn tough to get around. I’d say it’s about 5.5-4.5ish.Thoughts on that?

Fei-Long match-up seems to be increasingly difficult. That focus attack will stuff Yoga sniper from far away and knock you down out of the air. I remember using the knee on EX-chicken wing and regular chicken wing on reaction, but I can’t seem to do that too well anymore. Did that move get longer invulnerablity in super or am I just imagining things?

^ No, you can still do it.

As far as seth is concerned; ya he’s tough, but you only have to hit him like three times. If it weren’t for that i’d say 4-6, but i can see 5-5.

It feels like the same thing statement works in reverse as well. Seth can stun Sim incredibly fast, if I miss an AA it pretty much feels like doom.

With that in mind, what do you guys use to stop the Seth’s walldive kick? I need to condition myself to stop blocking and knock him out of it, I’m just not sure what moves can do it on reaction.

B.Roundhouse, B.Strong, EX Blast, J.Strong, J. Roundhouse, or if you’re really feeling yourself, Mummy
   What have you tried?

U2 if you’re quick enough lol…gotta leave it to pretty late though

I was trying B.MP & B.RH. I guess my timing must have been late, I’ll go back to the training mode tonight when I get home. Now I feel dumb, haha.

The only tool I use to stop Seth’s wall dive kick is a well timed j.mp — do NOT attempt to short slide under it, you’ll eat a combo almost every time (at least every time I try, and I do it at the last possible second). I’ll either focus back or teleport to safety. I was in the PeacefulJay stream last night, and Prawr had a sick win streak with Gief/Abel. His Abel is a monster, but he counterpicked me with Seth :frowning: He barely won… Ugh. Although playing Abel can be a festival of sodomy, I enjoy playing a good Abel. Seth on the other hand… bleh. Pretty annoying match. I don’t find the Seth matchup fun at all. One of my least favorites.

Anyone have any good advice for fighting Honda? I did read the OP, but that’s pretty old and was wondering how that matchup may have developed, or is that pretty much all there is to know? I didn’t see anything about Tower either and wanted to know if Tower vs Headbutt was a practical strategy. I’ve got a friend who plays a decent Honda, and as I try to learn Sim, I’d like to be able to put up a fight vs him. He likes to Butt Smash, maybe too much. Are those better to try and stuff with b+HK and b+MK, or focus like with most other chars? Just lookin for a solid overall strategy I guess. Later I’ll look thru this thread a bit, but at 49 pages, I felt justified posting for a couple tips. Thanks!

According to the OP in the Yoga tower: Learn how to use it here thread, you can YT Honda’s Ochio Throw, Headbutt, and super/ultra.

I know that we have arguably the worst organization of any of the character boards but you can find this info in this post on the page before this one :coffee:

Oh ya, don’t try to u2 light or ex headbuts.
