I just started using Sim about two weeks ago and I was playing a Sagat. Is there a trick to using knee as anti air, when he did his routine jump f.k on me it either traded or hit me clean. I am guessing I am either just spacing it bad or timing it bad. Granted it was online so most likely a timing thing and there wasnt anything I could do about it. I also tried to blast it a few times but I would just eat the kick and sweep right after.
Also when I tried to focus it, I always ate the sweep and after reading this, I am just thinking I had bad connection with this person. It was only 2 bars.
Just HK slide for knockdown on spark chasers or boom chasers (guile), after all they are mashing forward dash, its not like they can block. They have to chase their slow version so its easy to do on reaction…they’ll have to change tactics or block…but like i said, they probably cant and that’d be hard since dash puts you out of commission briefly. That may condition them to start jumping instead which you can adjust accordingly.
got 5th at DM this week, but i keep losing to cviper (mainly Damdais)
he beat at evo losers semis to get out of pools
hes knocked me out of walls and this weekend at DM
any advice on viper? heres my concerns
yoga snipe is dangerous cause he freely punishes it on block with a fierce sizemo
i find it hard to deal damage in this match in general. getting close to her is always problamatic
i try to zone but the constant threat of sizemos are tough. I see some yoga tower but its arough guessing game.
if she jumps i jump back mp but she can beat that with super jump rh i think.
I got nothing. That guy destroys me.
Against VI in general I just try to keep moving as much as possible.
Sometimes baiting with YT or ‘empty’ jumps followed by either teleports, drills, j.mp, of j.fp, based on if she bites or not.
I’m also working on incorporating more focus into this match, but unsuccessfully so far.
I’ve had better luck keeping close (70%) than when I don’t. s.mk only works for a while, but it’s the only useful weapon I’ve found in this match-up.
Mix-up your Seismo dodges (Yoga Tower, back teleport and jump). As with pretty much every other match-up, Dhalsim is all about making your opponent whiff or make mistakes.
Her attempts to escape Dhalsim’s Ultra (if you set her up after knockdown) leave her open.
Keeping close is usually a bad idea in my opinion. A good Viper can run safe mix-ups all day from close-mid range, and you risk getting combo’d into Ultra.
Watch her meter. Don’t launch any offensive (or even attempt to pressure with fires) if she has even a single stock of EX.
Never use jump-back instant fierce or naked IAT on Viper unless you are certain that you won’t miss.
Some great tipes Field. Just a quick note, I think you should avoid any air-to-ground attacks (ie. instant fierce overhead) because even though you hit, she can quickly dash to you and just Lightning Knuckle since Sim is so floaty.
That’s true. Even on hit you are still vulnerable, similar to Gouki who can nail you with a Demon.
That dash can mess up our back teleport also (see: Iyo versus Kyabetsu in SBO).
I am actually having pretty good success with pulling IATs on a Seismo-happy Viper (risk-reward only makes sense if you have Super, though).
Trying to catch Viper with AA Super/Ultra is pretty much impossible, since she can alter her trajectory so easily.
I’ve noticed that I’m having troubles with my Sim vs. quality Hondas. Is there anything on this matchup? I’ve looked around, but no dice… mostly, I just freeze when I play a Honda who spams the butt splash… not too sure what’s the best method around it. Thanks for any input.
On the Butt Splash (Don’t know if these are the best options, just what I use)
If he whiffs and ends up close: b.mk>>lp.flame>>run away
If he does it from a characters length+ away: b.mp>>lp.fire>>run away (works on ex too)
If he does it when he’s right on top of you: block, back teleport
Whatever you do, don’t jump when he’s in spam mode.
you can focus attack the butt stomp then dash back. still in a tight spot cause he has charge saved and usually is either gonna butt stomp again, or headbutt
so either jump and bait a teleport, or jump and fp
Pez: you and me both!
I consider myself a fairly decent Sim (as in I can go toe-to-toe with some good players), but I got owned by a butt-spam Honda not too long ago.
Scamp’s counters are very solid, but I would suggest that doing a b+mp xx fp flame is better. Do not try to b+rh butt-spam unless you are absolutely sure that you are positioned correctly. B+mp is a much better solution. Watch out for cross up slam! You can keep b+mp’ing all day, until he gets close and crosses you up.
The best way to get Honda to stop with butt-spam shenanigans is to nail him with b+mk, lp flame xx Super after he whiffs either too close or too far.
All very good advice. I’m learning 'sim now and this advice seems really good. I have noticed too that 'sim’s super is very good and his ex moves aren’t really worth wasting the meter for so I think I’ll start storing super meter from now on. I think to beat geif with sim though, u gotta be ALOT better than the geif player. Oh well, time to practice …actually, time to work 8 hrs, then maybe practice after wk
The match-up is in Giefs favor but not by much. It’s probably 6-4 Gief at worst, probably closer.
Something to keep in mind against Gief is that b. RH AA isn’t always very wise because of Gief’s weird, flea like jump arc. A competent Gief will likely try to bait a whiffed b. RH by short jumping, or even normal empty-jumping from the right distance. And you’ll likely get Ultraed / Supered as a result.
St. RH, neutral jump strong and EX flame are better AAs against Gief. This matchup is all about spacing so making sure Gief isn’t in jump range in the first place is crucial. I don’t usually save for super in this match; I burn all my meter on EX upflames.
I enjoy this matchup very much, because it’s like the ying/ yang of Street Fighter. Sim can really limit Gief shenanigans but without it being retarded like Gief/Seth is. Both characters can play to their strengths and have all the tools for the match to go either way. The only thing IMO swings the matchup slightly in Gief’s favor is the massive difference in stamina/ damage output.
I wish I played good Giefs more often. None of the people I play against offline play him, and 99% of online Giefs are horrible, horrible scrub mashers. And the resut is that when I finally run into the odd good one I get crushed because I’m not used to dealing with non-retarded Giefs.
