Ya, that doesn’t work. I’m talking about when he’s right on top of you… Super Meaty.
If he is RIGHT in your face, what I do is block low when he starts, then high when he’s in the air, then low again. This works. The start of it is a low attack, then an overhead, then low again. Remember though, lag can mess up your timing. It does alot of chip damage though as sim has low health. I find its better to bait it out and backdash it or jump over it.
Depending on how meaty the ultra is, it could be a crossup, so watch out for that.
I sometimes use jump forward kick to to hit Zangief out of his lariat (the punch one) if I’m too far to hit him with cr. Fierce. I like it because the hitbox is smaller than j. fierce, and thus it’s easier to hit him right in the head without the lariat hitting you (PPP lariat tends to beat j. Fierce, and that’s a bad situation for Sim since the lariat does decent damage and worst of all, it knocks down).
I also use it against Honda. If you hit Honda on his back it’ll beat the Sumo Headbutt clean, even the EX one. You have to be very precise though; if you hit too close to Honda’s head the headbutt will hit you and knock you down.
I’m working on the ‘Limb poke’ section of my little Dhalsim guide (shut up, I need something to occupy my time this summer!) and dont want to post any misinformation.
So question: is there a time to use s.strong rather than s.forward? Are they interchangable? I personally tend to throw them out there as if they were one and the same… but maybe I’m missing something!
I’ve tried dozens of times to punish Honda’s sumo slam with Knee and for some reason it doesn’t work when they immediately fire off another it goes right through, am i doing it wrong? I can’t see how that’d be the case, if so this punish just does not work…
The Sumo Slam has some frames of invincibility as Honda is going up. That’s why the back RH whiffs.
I personally like FAing the sumo slams when they are coming down. It’s pretty effective and you can get a free Ultra + Super off it if you anticipate it and manage to charge it to at least lvl. 2 for the crumple.
Just make sure to release it as soon as you can because they can punish with a headbutt, Oicho or another short slam.
Thanks Noema…i’ll give it a shot, does it have to be a Sumo slam from further off? The close ones cross me up…I tried to focus one and he went behind me and Threw me
Also, Chun Li is giving me hell…I must be 1-9 vs her. I saw that I could yhoga tower the Hashenshu or whatever but hell Its hard to predict when she will do it. Is there any more in depth strats I can do to make her uncomfortable? I want to be able to control the match but my limbs eat fireballs…my in close game eats kicks, my anti air game is nearly ineffective…its just a crapshoot for me…
This must be what’s happening, thank you. Options?
s.forward is great for keeping jumpers on the ground (especially when they’re waking up) but will not hit a crouching opponent.
Go into training mode, set up the situation, and find out.
Thanks for that.
Its how you learn. Even if he told you, you’d still have to go to training mode and work it out.
Thanks for that.
So …we need a sure strategy for defeating Gen. I got destroyed by Orochi Demon yesterday in a championship worth about 600K. I was not very happy.
Gen likes to roll into you when you block and then focus cancel out and attempt a throw. Seen every Gen I run into do it…Also yoga flame is effective to armor break their little focus attack antics in close. I had trouble with him and i just mysteriously started winning after I got patient with his crossup and just blocked until I was sure he was done with all his little stupid hand slap antics. I throw out small poke and backdash for distance again. Throw Techs arent too big a deal with him since if hes not slapping, hes probably throwing.
MK slide against Gen’s Wall Jump things and punish
His roll attack I think you can defend and then punish with b.LK
When he tries to Crossup you, MK slide out of it (LK slide doesn’t work well because his crossup covers a lot of space)
b.HK a lot against his jumps (that are not crossups)
Use a lot of standing MKs to poke, Gens like to jump a lot
Apart from that, not much I know to help, Gen is by far my worst matchup
a) first hit must be blocked low… other hits high
b) it depends from distance:
if it’s really close to you, you can only block or teleport on reaction
if it’s less close, you can use BLAST EX while his ultra is at the top of height
if it’s far, you can use FLAME LP or FLAME EX when he’s falling down and starts to coming to you.
The last two methods counter it but you need to practice for the timing.
ok, i have been having a huge problem with tourney lvl cammys, might be funny but if i dont have a meter to yoga blast her jump i am so fried. They get close and through a 7 hit combo over and over
yeah, cammy sucks for me too. I can’t seem to find a reliable method to counter her ex hooligan throw consistently. I tried ducking and sweeping, but the window is so short sometimes I get countered before I can sweep. I’m having the best luck so far with yoga tower and then throwing, but even then sometimes she ends up at a distance too far to throw and I get cannon spiked instead.
I swear cammy would be SO much easier if not for that freaking ex hooligan which makes me not even able to throw a fireball when she’s across the screen.
