Dhalsim's Combos

Last night when i was playing Arcade Edition i was able to pull off:

db MP (counter hit) into db HP and the damage was crazy good!

Um I feel like a derf for asking. But does the iat b.hp , s.mk, lp flame whiff on shotos?

Can’t get that to go unless I’m in the corner and the pushback is minimal.

^This. I’ve noticed this too, & it was never really an issue for me until lately. I think the distancing is key, you got have the appropriate spacing. If they get hit by lp.fire, the pushback (which is actually into me after I IAT) will not whiff, otherwise it’s kinda random. I’ve been punished for it a couple times lately.

This is why b.mk is often used in this sittuation, because it can cross and still hit:)

I imagine you would always want b.mk in this situation, unless of course b.fp wouldnt cause you to whiff. :wink:

this is WHY I never use IAT after an LP FIRE. I prefer to use mp or EX fire and use a faster teleport (LIAT), and punish.
If you want to use lp fire and IAT, you’re forced to use jb.mk (as SimSimIV said), hoping that your limb will not autoflip into j.mk (that isn’t an crossup, fuck capcom lol).

in summary: Dhalsim CROSSUP FAIL

j.FP instead of jb.FP pushes back less. You’d use it situationally.

Anyone use IAT, HP, lk slide into super? I’ve been using that lately.

I’ve used it a few times, but it’s really situational I’ve found. I guess it’s because I’m really solid at landing my U1, so I tend to like following it with Super.

It’s demoralizing to anyone when they get hit by U1 into Super lol.

Now that AE has been out for a while, we should really write down some new comboes, or changes to old ones.

I heard Seath Killian’s commentery yesterday at NCR, and he went on about how Dhalsim/Honda was S-tier in Super (’_’) and how Dhalsim now had gotten some minor buffs that improved his punnishing department. As far as I know, this is a flat out lie. Dhalsim has no better punishes than super as far as I can tell. Dhalsim’s best punisher without super or ultra in Super was: db.hp->b.mk->light flame (Or b.hp->ex flame with 1 frame link) for 258 dmg and his new best is: dp.hp->b.mk->ex flame for 246 dmg, and that is wasting one bar!

If someone disagree with me, or has some godlike punish that is better than in Super, please write them down! I need them bad!:stuck_out_tongue:

With the changes of AE, Sim players have to change their ways to punish the opponent. The buff of db.mp made sim be able to do more combos than the last 2 versions and it actually makes a difference imo. Here are my findings after playing and discussing with other players.

On the dhalsim vs yun thread The Kens0 actually found sim’s best punish without meter which is : db.hp->st.hp xx medium flame for 257 dmg and I believe it works on everybody maybe except blanka and boxer due to their weird hitbox (if anyone could confirm this that would be great.) Now the problem with this combo is that you have to be point blank to do it and its a 1 frame link. How often does sim gets a point blank db.hp to connect? That would be once in a blue moon. After further testing I found that db.hp -> b.mp xx light flame does almost the same damage and a 2 frame link (243 vs 257). This ONLY works point blank or very close to it at least.

Point blank best punish:
db.hp->bhp xx medium flame for 257 dmg (add super if available for maximum dmg) or db.hp->b.mp xx light flame for easier link.

With the new improved db.mp our combo should always start with it rather than the b.mk because of these 3 reasons:

-db.mp gives more +frames on block and on hit than b.mk. It is also great for frame traps (after a block db.mp use db.hp if they pressed a button they’ll most likely get counter hit so you can follow up with a st.fierce!)
-does more dmg if you combo off of it i.e db.mp -> db.mp xx light flame for 208 dmg.
-db.mp links to itself and b.mk which pushes the blocked opponent far away from sim.

If the opponent is blocking both db.mp, we can substitute the light flame with a b.mk and have a high low game (jump back fierce or low strong/fierce).

I believe sim has a different close up game in AE. We can’t just sit there and block all the time we have to use db.mp to push the opponent at a comfortable range. Like I said in the sim vs yun thread : Sim is NOT a turtle character anymore, he is a runaway character now.
