Dhalsim - YOGUH!

Wow, I’m REALLY glad someone else said this. I’ve believed this from the start. You can play Cammy like everyone else now and keep her away with Fireballs because when she jumps, you can mess her up like you can to everyone else.

You’d better go, man. ^^ There will be a deadline for registration, because Evo is all online registration these days so we can make the brackets early for smoother running Tourneys. But yeah, I expect to see you there. We need to make sure old school UCLA representation is still going strong. ^^ And if possible, I totally want to form a reunion of people who were on that top 20 board in that picture of Tomo in that old Hyper Fighting GamePro guide. I already know a bunch of old-schoolers on that board who are going, so you’d better go too!!!

MongoloRobokop and BeefBowl both beat me up pretty consistently. I’m starting to get a little better in this match, but I think I still have a long way to go.

A couple questions for you guys in this match:

  1. After you land a noogie at mid-screen, if you suspect that they’ll reversal your RH Drill or slide attempt, what do you do? Is there a spacing to drill or slide from that makes the up-kicks whiff? If not, what’s a good alternative?

  2. Once you get her in the corner, what are some good strategies to keep her locked down there? And assume she’s good at spamming LP to stop drills and such.

Yeah, Gief and Hawk can really be a tough match against really good players. Have you guys ever played a Hawk player named Snake Eyez? He gives me a hell of a time. I’d love to hear some strategies in that match beyond use LP to beat his dives.

I’m surprised you think Dictator is an even match. I have a terrible time against good ones. I know that you’re supposed to be harrass them with drill pressure and throws, but I have a real hard time landing those. It seems like he slips out of many of my attempts. It’s also harder to lock him down in the corner now. Meanwhile he’s got good lock-downs against you and those scary combos. Any general advice in this match?

If you’ve got the spare cash you should just register anyway and then go if you can make it. It’d be really cool to see you there :wgrin:

I actually have a copy of that fighting guide, and read the interview with Tomo fairly recently. It’s one of my most cherished possessions.

playing against hawk is tough yeah but you really just have to frustrate the player into making foolish mistakes and taking more risks than hawk usually has to. be wary of st.mp because that shit beats st.rh and st.mk for sure and probably some standing punches sim can throw out, all while pushing hawk closer and closer. love that move

Maybe I haven’t played the right Hawks but HDR Hawk is cake compared to ST Hawk. If I fuck up and get hit by a dive I don’t even get knocked down. Then again I have yet to play a Hawk who truly utilizes his normals like his splashes and his normals that aren’t c.hp or s.hk.

As for dictator, I’ve been getting better at the spacing for db+lp to stuff scissors and psycho crusher… coupled with mk drills to clear space, I aim to land him in the corner. Lp yoga fire trap is so good against dictator when he doesn’t have meter. They usually try to jump by the fourth yoga flame, and eat a knock down, and then next time I stop early and drill a couple times, walk up like I’m gonna throw, but stop early and c.mk. When they’re panicked in the corner they try to throw, and they eat the c.mk. They panick more, so I drill again. I had to condition myself to almost never throw yoga fires in this match-up. It’s not worth the risk. I find myself using a lot of hp drill, mk (drill, d.mk, f.mk) and db+lp. Really easy match to lose though since you make a couple bad trades and you’re stunned.

If I suspect Chun is going to upkick on wake, I sometimes drill early, so I’m landing and blocking as she recovers. They still usually do the upkick which you block. Make sure you hit her on the way down. One time I drilled very late, after her upkick came out and I hit it clean, but I don’t know how reliable that is.

When she’s pinned in the corner, I start throwing her. Don’t get too fancy with the drill lockdown combos because she can get out pretty easily with upkicks or jabbing the drill. After a drill, db strong, standing strong (long), standing forward is a lot of hits (4 consecutive) that they have to block. It’s a good way to train them to calm down a bit.

I’ve played Snake Eyez’ Akuma and Honda, but not his Hawk. Kuroppi’s Hawk gives me all kinds of problems. He dives at awkward angles so it is hard to react to with back jab. It’s hard to describe unless you’re experiencing it firsthand.

Against a dictator who can kill me in one hit, it feels like 5-5, with a lot of that being luck of whether he can land the combo or not. If I’m playing a great dictator who is comboing me when I’m blocking the wrong way (e.g., after a tech throw, fake slide to the other side, db forward -> dizzy combo OR corpse hop psycho crusher, db forward -> dizzy combo), then it feels like 4-6. That same string of 4 hits that I use on Chun works very well on Dictator. Most of those moves hit his Psycho Crusher or Double Kicks cleanly. It forces him to sit down for a while, so you can close distance and start it again. Just don’t get predictable with the drills or you’ll eat jump strong x3.

BTW, I played a set of 10 matches with Bruce Askew today. For those wanting to see Dhalsim vs. Dee Jay, I have a bunch of matches versus Bruce and Le0n0wski in the Dee Jay playlist. Some more are still being uploaded.

Eggo / Airdash, if you want practice against a hawk, let me know and we can try and arrange a session.

I played some matches last night… and damn… you can tell I have been playing sf4. I was so off. I was trying to throw ppl with lp+lk, and trying AA ppl with b+rh, the quick reactions were off… LOL

Any other SF4 players do this transposing strategies with Sim?

Oh, am I the only one not entirely ‘feeling’ SF4? Don’t get me wrong. It is a good the game, but it is just not pulling me in like some of the older SFs. Maybe I am getting older, and am less adept to change. But, I feel that is not it. I can’t quite put my finger on it. I feel like i am working to enjoy the game as opposed to just enjoying it and being compled to play it… Shrugs… anyway I guess I am just rambling… :xeye:

fatboy, i like sf4 better than hdr actually. and sim is more fun in that game imo. i have no problems switchign between both games just fine. i understand some of the og’s dont like it tho because the game does add scrubby elements to it…like easier inputs, free reversals and ultras…but all that stuff is what helps make sim beastly in that game. plus you cant hate on his aegis reflector ultra. its too sexy!! rest of you guys shoul dhop on imo.

will answer some of the questions you guys asked me later on.

Sim in SF4, I just find it sooooo wierd that his drills and flames are so not… good…

I miss the flame and drill antics of ST/HDR/A2, maybe its just me though.

What ??? Watch your mouth! You are now dead to me! :wasted: j/k…

For the record, I certainly do not think the game sucks, and I am not hating because the game is “different.” I don’t hate the game at all.

The game is actually very deep and has tons to offer. But, I am not finding myself “super compelled” to play it. Other than the fact that tons of ppl are playing it.

With ST, I would find myself excited to play it. I would have Cole come down to SD and Giga would fly in just to have a ST weekend at my place. Or, I would fly my ass to AZ just to play with Giga and Cigar Bob, just to play great players in person.

But, for SF4 I just haven’t had the urge to commit myself to that kind of dedication.

Sounds like I am the only one. :china:

I know exactly what you’re saying, because I experienced it too. When SF4 first came out, I switched back and forth between the games. Then I encountered problems with throwing with 2 buttons and doing the HD Remix super motion with 3 buttons, which led to unintended teleports.

It reminded me of something I learned long ago… it’s hard to play two fighting games competitively at a tournament level if they differ drastically. Because of that, I dropped SF4 cold turkey, because it was affecting my ability to play HD Remix well. If I’m going to EVO, HD Remix is the game I’ll be playing, not SF4.

I don’t hate SF4. I was having fun playing it, but I have more fun playing HD Remix. I prefer the tightness of the controls and the familiarity of the gameplay. I remember when I first got into a player room with Haru Tejyo. We were having a blast with four great players in the room. I checked each of their gamer profiles, and they all said “SF4 - last played 1 month ago. HD Remix - last played 1 hour ago.” That brought a smile to my face to see I wasn’t alone.

You couldn’t have said it better. I reached the same conclusion (probably around the same time) you did. This will be my first EVO, and I want to do as best as I possibly can. I felt SF4 was interfering with that goal. I’ll pick it back up after EVO.

sf4 is trash :sunglasses:

I’m not a Sim player but I’m down with the HDR sentiment. I like SF4 and I plan on getting into that but I’m trying to step my Blanka game up bigtime in HDR first. Right now, I’m focusing on fighting Sim. It gets easier by the day.

: : : runs away like a little school girl : : :

No way. I don’t know about Hawk, but I know for sure that Zangief dies a horrible, flaming death to Dhalsim. Along with Honda, Dhalsim is one of Zangief’s hardest matches. If I’m ever playing a good Dhalsim, Zangief will be my last choice.

Have you played Haru Tejyo/Jodim or x kuroppi x? Let me know how you do against their Zangief/T-Hawk with Dhalsim. It’s far from a flaming death.

Ha ha. Against my Dhalsim? Yeah, I would probably get owned. But how would they do against Gian’s Dhalsim? Or 2 time US national champion Jason Cole’s Dhalsim? I’d put my money on Cole.

It’d be an interesting match, but I’d put $ on Zangief winning, especially if it’s online versus local. It’s not the same match as it was in ST.

I think I figured it out. I haven’t had much of a chance to to play SF4 against ppl in real life. So, I have only experienced SF4 on XBL. And I find the SF4 aniline XBL experience laborious and painful.

Everything takes SO much effort. It takes forever to search for matches, once you find them there is high % chance that they will be already taken. Which means I have to search for them again… uggggg… You can cherry pick your ranked matches… There are no “quarter rooms.” There much less of a sense of “community” when playing SF4 on-line. I think that fact is that I like SF4, but I don’t like overall experience of playing SF4 on-line.

I think that the on-line interface of SF4 is what has been distracting my enjoyment of the game.

I know this is the Sim thread, and not a HD- Remix XBL experience vs. the SF4 experience thread, so I’ll will not press it or complain any further.
