Dhalsim vs. El Fuerte --- a no win match?

I have to disagree! This not an easy match up, If u play a really good El forte player sim is in trouble

YT does avoid his ultra. I pulled it in a tourney a couple weeks ago.

Best strategy in general is to not get caught at all in El Fuerte’s Mix-ups <_<. You have the option of stopping his wall-jump approaches with jumping mp (I don’t know about fajita busta off the wall, but I’ve had good results), and stopping him from approaching on the ground (haven’t really tested anything for ex habanero dashes though). But eh, It’s very rare to find a good Fuerte. Sliding is good too on the wall jumps cause then you can take the opportunity to switch sides if needed (when you are getting too close to a corner). Avoid getting tripped by slide when you land too.

Here’s my 2 cents:

Look for a pattern in the Fuerte. If there isn’t one, jump over Fuerte (getting hit by Tostada Presses will happen) and then teleport backwards out of the corner.

That sounded fucking stupid…Except for the patter part.

A quick question for u yoga users. When dhalsim does his ghey little dodge is he considered airborne??

^ Nope.

for the love of god stop suggesting IAT, that shit will only beat ONE of his many options, tortilla grab (it will also beat fajita grab, but that grab is way less safe and only grabs standing opponents so most fuertes dont mix that in).

IAT will NOT beat his slide, unless the fuerte you are fighting is horrible and does it way too late.

IAT requires that you first jump, which will lose to a meaty low attack, no matter what.

you can throw IAT into your wake up everyonce in a while just to keep up with random, cause thats pretty much what you have to do. there are no universal answers to fighting a fuerte, you really just have to guess, and when i mean guess i dont mean do a random thing and if it works keep doing that random thing. do different things.

My 2 Cents to this matchup.

if you are going up against Elf, and I will edit this post when i go back to the training room. Today I got to do a set of matches with an elf we did 3 elf vs sim and 1 elf vs T.hawk (my other main), he wasnt really amazing or anything but he did know a thing or two about elf knock down and wake-up game.

I dont want to talk about the wake-up game, but I did discover, that when you dont want to be rushed down from range, Several of the Run attack options, are beaten clean by MK and HK Yoga Spears, if he starts at anywhere near 1/2 distance.

Note the Below information is unconfirmed, even though i have done it in online play and in training mode. I say it is unconfirmed because I am not 100% sure, I dont have the experience to conduct a throughout lab, nor a sparring partner that could put the spear into it’s proper context all the time, or even punish it correctly. I am hoping that Someone else, that is good with this kind of thing can test it out, and give us the results. If this works it would be another reable tool

I dont have video, but I stuffed Tortilla, the Splash, the Slide. I also used the HP version to stop cr.HK slide and it also did good against him trying to mash jab while in lk range, putting him back into bk.lk range and forcing him to continue to block so you can run down time.

The Spear also beats Mis-timed run-stop-AA grab, if he times it perfect or if he is not doing anything he can AA grab so it isnt something you can spam, but it can further get into the head of elf.

The spear will Lose if the jump is not perfermed before the splash, you have to be a bit higher in the air than the splash for this to occur, so at 1/2 screen it will beat someone trying to instantly run and then splash, but it wont beat someone that is skilled enough to delay the splash input in order to hit a limb on reaction, or able to run-stop-block a fireball, but that is just my observation. if you know your opponent is trying for a running dash move or even an Ex-Dash-Splash to knock you down, jump, wait for the attack and spear him into a throw attempt, if they tech it you got the go ahead to take it to his knees.

The Running Grab get beat by the spear, the Running slide seems to get beat by the spear as well however, have to have someone experienced to do the testing for that.

And The spear doesnt work against hardest mode cpus, they run, stop, AA throw all day, however, if you instantly do a spear if you jump by mistake and u do the HK spear and he does the AA you will be too low to get hit by it

Even if you trade, you will probably get knocked down and he won’t for most of his moves. I need to try wake up focus back dash, but I have my doubts of it working all the time.

And I used to think Fuerte was full of gimmicks @_@. How often do you see good Fuerte players though (not online where their timing can get f’ed).

There are actually 3 or 4 pretty decent elf players in Beijing. When I first sat down at the cab to start learning, I was getting rsf looped.

If you think Fuerte is full of gimmicks, then you’ll definitely lose once you face a good Fuerte.

Do your best to zone him out and don’t be afraid to rush him at times (remember, like you, Fuerte has crap for reversals), but don’t get greedy when rushing him. You lose more on knockdown then he does to your okizeme.
If you’re knocked down, backdash is usually the safest way to get out of his mix-ups, however good Fuertes will usually not do run special mix-ups on Sim’s wakeup. Instead they’ll rely on meaty normal mix-ups and here is where Sim dies to Fuerte usually.
Both backdash and IAT get eaten alive by meaty normals and on block, Fuerte gets big frame advantage to allow him to do further mix-ups on Sim’s non-existing reversal options (out of super that is).

Focus attack lvl 1 to backdash can help against normal meaties to make Fuerte more hesitant to throw out normal meaties - do not forward dash since Fuerte will just grab you.
If you block or focus attack lvl 1 Fuerte’s normal meaties, Fuerte will start going to run specials mix-ups. Run special mix-ups can all be avoided by either backdash or IAT.

However, please be wary that most Fuerte will do run stop to normal meaty to eat your backdash or IAT.

So please be very wary of getting knocked down by Fuerte - Sim, like Guile, usually dies or gets stunned quickly to Fuerte’s okizeme and mix-ups once knocked down. You have to have really good reaction if you face a good Fuerte.
