Hmmmmm… Keep thinking.
How is EX upflame against wall jumps?
EX upflame works but he can steer the wall jump back and it will whiff and you will be punished. So you can use it but only once in a while. The best option is j.HK. In fact, j.HK is great in this matchup in general because it stops his floaty jump.
No win? What?
I havent played too many El Fuerte’s so I dont know this matchup that well.
But from what I know, basically you just keep fuerte the fuck away with quick pokes on the ground and in the air. If he gets in on you, it’s a pure guessing game: if you think he’s going to splash, block or teleport. If you think he’s going to grab/slide, Yoga Tower on wakeup. If you guess right, you’re pretty much out of danger and you can go back to zoning dude out.
IAT and wake up focus are your friend here. Backdash is also effective if he mistimes his belly splosh. Really, you shouldnt allow him in AND to sit on you as sim, but if you do, then the chances are the Elf would have taken a beating trying to get in on you. If he does score that knock down, and he does start the whole “sitting” process, then you need to use that IAT, slide, wakeup focus, backdash- because they DO work (backdash and focus especially well) and once you mitigate elfs wakeup game then he has lost…and lost hard. I do feel for El.f in this matchup.
Slide? Really? Which mixup does that get you out of?
Slide gets you out of a wall jump and I believe it trades/beats out an elf slide mixup. I might be wrong on this, havent tried it- but I guess the logics there. Do feel free to read the other options others have posted though. The point is…its not “impossible” its fairly simple.
IAT + inair/s.HP never let me down.
Slide doesn’t get you out of wall jump, wall jump is steerable and he’ll just steer an off the wall tostada into your slide.
Please stop telling him to do normal attacks and jumps (ie instant air teleport, which requires a jump) out of Fuerte’s mixups. A jump will get you out of run-grabs only; a normal won’t get you out of any meaty bs that’s at all properly timed.
You’re right about meaties but IAT gets you out of tortilla, slide, run-stop-grab, and a bunch of other shit.
Fair enough- scratch one option down, many more for sim to use. I played an elf a minute ago that was pretty decent- focus dash/double dash back got me out of harms way- slide worked, but not when he wall jumped. Use your limbs s.HP to keep him at range, then if you feel hes gonna go airial, use j.mp/j.hk really REALLY messes his game up. Elf is one of the easier match ups for sim.
There’s so much misinformation in this thread. Everyone needs to test their advice in training mode before passing it on to others, for real.
^This is 100% true. In fact honestly it should go for the person who made the thread too. If you have a question on what option beats a particular move, go into training mode, set it up, and try out your options. This is a great way to both find answers and familiarize yourself better with both your options and your opponent’s character’s options.
No, it gets you out of tortilla, whatever the other run-grab is called, and run-stop-grab. It also gets you out of poorly-timed anything, but that’s not very important to know because a bet that your opponent is mistiming things is a losing one against reasonable players.
Wait, but IAT goes over slide, right? Slide has a very low hitbox. Sorry if I’m wrong but I swear people have jumped my slide when I play as Fuerte.
P.S.: The other run-grab is called Fajita Buster, or fajita for short.
LOL
After I shat on this thread as being full of misinformation, I realize that the stuff I posted about this match is bullshit too. Fuck off about it.
Basically, YT is a bad option on wakeup because its startup gets owned by meaty slide. The only thing it beats is run-stop-throw and the flying grab. Seems like a crappy gamble compared to just backdashing.
I posted a thread yesterday on beating El Fuerte with different characters it is located here.

I will add a Dhalsim section soon.
I honestly do not know much about Dhalsim, I’ve played a few good ones and this is all I can say.
You have to be in the El Fuerte’s head.
If he runs at you - Do not fireball he can splash through it (not only over, but completely THROUGH it) However, if he does splash over it you can EX flame him.
I was able to play Arturo Sanchez a couple games a few weeks ago and it was a pretty strange match up, every teleport in the air I would try to Guacamole him. In the end it seemed like a turtle fest (get the life lead and run, for both of us).
I will be testing some specifics the next few days and I will make sure to post here however here is some quick info.
Fuerte’s far roundhouse (dropkick) hits two times if focused, however if timed correctly against Dhalsim and Blanka they can absorb the first hit and trade with the second hit.
Yoga Tower beats C. RH (Slide) and RH from Habenero Dash (the same slide)
if you neutral jump and Fierce in the air Fuerte can easily EX run through it and slide (welcome to his wake up game)
Run Stop Fierce is VERY difficult to land on Dhalsim.
My general strategy vs. Dhalsim is to take a small amount of his health and build ultra.
Predictable teleport -> you’ll get ultraed
Sim uses neutral jump fierce -> Ex run through and ultra before you land
Sim uses a predictable slide -> eat an ultra
Fuerte runs towards you -> sim uses yoga tower to avoid slide -> I cancel and use ultra
I am not 100% sure on all my info, I will be testing EVERYTHING and more and then posting it on my thread, please check back in the next few weeks
I use both FA’s and crouching blocks on wake up, they work fine for me. FA takes care of splashes (both regular and cross-up) and slides. Crouching block takes care of slides, and flying throws. Also, switching up fast recovers after knockdown (when possible) creates the possibility of him whiffing a mixup.
I still maintain what I said in this post.
Crouch loses to tortilla.
I’m 99,99% sure that Yoga Tower avois Fuerte’s Ultra as Well.
Not to mention that YT recovers pretty quickly so i think that even if YT doesn’t avoid ultra, Dhalsim has time to jump it.
