Dhalsim Video Thread

Ice0age r is an awesome Balrog, but it’s also really good with Sim:

This is the video of my first to 5 against my region’s best Guile (one of the top 2 players in my region). I did a lot better than I though I would considering I am probably 1-10 in sets against him since I started using Dhalsim. I feel like I could have won some of the round I lost, but I cracked under pressure when we both had low health (especially if I was put in the corner) and gave up rounds to him. I also started doing worse when he realized I kept baiting his EX Sonic Booms out and he started saving his EX meter (I was too worried about getting hit with an EX Sonic Boom off my Yoga Fire and it allowed him to back me up).

Even though I lost 5-1 I think I gained more respect from the Guile player since I managed to keep the rounds close and have a life lead for almost all of them until I cracked (I still want to be able to beat him though, lol).

Any constructive criticism is welcome. I already know I need to IAT, use “IAT, hp, b.mk xx lp.flame xx super” and “hk.drill over projectiles”. Preferably I would like to get some matchup specific tips (like what I was doing right, what I should have done more of, what I did wrong and what I didn’t do at all that I should have).

1 - IAT to punish/predict sonic booms is a gimmick. NOt ever worth it in this matchup. Maybe other matchups but not this one, he can recover fast enough to at the very least standing jab. 10:45 that costs you the match. yoga tower, focus attack, whatever. just stop the fireball and regain the control ofthe distance.

2 - IMO, when u have full super and he has little bar for ex boom and you are standing full screen, u should at least throw one or two ex fireballs to give u advantage in the fireball war, ex fireball, mk/lk slide and react to how he deals with the remaining charge of the yoga flame. Sonic boom, then fp for easy damage, he jumps over, then AA accordingly. then instant overhead (i dont know if this can be punished with ultra 2 or what). i dont see how he can “win” the fireball war at max range because he has to hold back in order to throw them, forcing him to push himself back. ONce you have him in the corner, his strategy changes vastly i would think.

3 - If you want to mix up your fireball wars with jumping over and then teleport back or whatever, i think that’s your preference. Some people use the hk drill, some yoga tower etc but imo if that’s how you play Sim then that’s how you play sim. In fact i think your unique style is what really has helped you in the matchup because this guile just doesn’t know what to expect. Just remember that when u jump you limit your choices to 3 valid options: teleport back, empty jump, air fp. All of which are reactionary based. If you ever leave the ground, its to be assertive and aggressive and sim just doesn’t have that option at the range you are jumping at.

4 - Your pokes are much better btw. As is your anti air. In fact even though you jump a lot, you jump way less than your other videos. at the 9:00 minute mark you do the instant overhead. try to learn how to get it while jumping back. straight up nj fp can be punished by a lot of characters.

5 - this guile played retarded. Every time the distance was less than half screen, he pushed it back to full or 3/4 screen, which is great for you because you can react to jump ins after your fireball from that distance (for the most part) IDC what anyone says about this matchup, it isn’t that easy. Think you did very well.

6 - if you are going to use the ultra 1 in an offensive fashion, make the most of it. use an overhead or a low attack to try to get your opponent to guess. ie b+lp, lk slide, yoga sniper.

I think highly technical inputs aren’t that important for this matchup. thought you played pretty well.

what a comeback!
Learn to crouch tech at wakeup.

If he focuses all yogafires, use slide mk (not lk) and punish with s.hp, or use IAT directly.

Made it to finals, but poor execution and sleep deprivation got the best of me. Beastly Honda for sure. Starts at 1 hour 28 mins in. Getting better each time at least…

I had just come back from a 3 week sabbatical and you can actually see me relearning how to play.

watch how frustrated he gets…

your opponent was so angry , he wanted to kill someone lol
i just play dhalsim for this reason

Man, the game was like… in hyper speed to me. I’ve since started playing regularly again and the game has slowed down to the point where I can manage it better.

I won a tournament in Norway this weekend:
