If anybody hasn’t seen Sim’s AE combo of cr.mp, cr.mp xx ex.flame, it’s in this video at the 00:30 mark. It looks sexy!

St.MP is a great AA, though it has very specific usage.

But db.fierce as an AA? No, dude. No way. I’ve tried to use it a million times thinking that I’d find a range where it won’t get beat or trade, and there is none. Check out the hitbox on it: db.fierce

That hitbox is contained entirely within a huge green hurtbox, which means any jump in attack will at the very least trade if not outright beat it clean. It just doesn’t work for AA purposes.

Now look at db.strong. The hurtbox is still there above the hitbox, but it’s pulled back a little bit to Sim’s wrist so hitting with the tip of the punch can work in specific ranges. db.strong is good for hitting things like Ryu’s jump in Tatsu, but getting the range just right is tough. I’m fucking free to that jumpin Tatsu shit still. :sad:

Great post. You should make a thread breaking down some hitbox data like this.

Ha thx, but really I’m not the person to do that. I don’t know much about frames and hitboxes, at least not enough where I should be instructing others. I just saw db.hp being mentioned as an anti-air and from experience I know it doesn’t work and that the hitbox shows why.

I’ve gotten it to work before, but you were right about it trading more than anything else. I probably used it to stop an early jump-in attack and assumed it was a good anti-air. I’m pretty sure it has SOME usage as an anti-air, but definitely not a go-to aa. If I have time in the next day or so, I’ll take it to the lab and see if I come up with anything useful for it.

Great match. I love Art’s usage of fk.drill to stop psycho crushers — I usually just tower and punish, but drill is clearly the way to go. Also, he used j.short several times — that was mentioned as being useless in a thread recently, but I will every once in a while break it out, though it does so little damage lol. Also, great reaction w/the super!

this is a basic combo of Dhalsim
the one in the video mentioned is not the full combo , you can easily do 2 db.fp db.lk or slide lk xx super

I don’t know. Just because db. fp, short slide xx Super is a Trial Mode combo doesn’t mean it’s a basic combo.

It’s actually quite impractical, seeing as to how it actually does* less* damage (410) than simply linking Super off db. fp (450 and it’s a very easy hit confirm since db. fp deals such insane frame advantage).

Yeah, I think ‘basic’ might be overstating it… I’ve probably watched more than 50 hours of Dhalsim videos/matches, and I do not ever recall seeing this combo (or the extended one that you mentioned) used mid-game - even from high level Dhalsim players. I know of the combo, just haven’t seen it used before this video. I’ll practice it and try to incorporate it, though

you teleport alot for no reason , and also jump alot (which is not good against blanka he can punish you easily while you are in the air)

also you should practice more the main combo of dhalsim IAT > HP > b.MK > lp.flame xx super (you have missed it many times)

The IAT and the b.MK > lp.flame are things I am definitely work on. They are surprisingly tough (for me at least) on a pad.

PLAYING TO W1N had a nice write-up as well as a good match against Sagat (2nd video from the bottom), showcasing excellent Dhalsim fundamentals (variations of tiger shot avoidance, proper spacing for aa’s, etc.). Good job as always, PTW!
