Just saw your match vs perfect legend, chad. Nice try.
Chad, Josh the 14yr old plays me all the time. He knows that matchup through and through. It’s ridiculously tough. That’s where I learned about the jump back instant mummy vs dive kick spam.
@ 24:54 — that’s the first time I’ve EVER seen a Sim do a mummy into super before during a match. Fucking gorgeous. I’ve done it in training mode, sure… but haven’t executed it midgame yet.
havent played in awhile but thats no excuse, heres me loosing against claw alot and winning once.

would be cool if you can point out gameplay flaws which you may notice like i walk into corner too much.
also i was wandering how to or when to hit him during roll strings or the spining kick. i found it hard to attack between roll and the kick is that the moment to attack?

vs Ryu

Good Matches, my tips:
Vs Chun at 1:00: never throw a fire after yoga flame, if Chun has U1.
Vs Ryu: too much randomTP. Learn to punish whiffed DP with b.hp xx flame MP/EX instead of grab. Become less predictable (you mk slide almost every hadouken).
Chad = Chat? Back instant mummy, I will try that. When I fought Perfect at the end, he did what I wanted him to do so I could Ultra- super, but my super came out. very disappointing.
I saw that, man. I cried for you.
Also, I thought that maybe your real name was Chad because that’s what the guys on the stream had.

Curious in this video — were you inducing crouching punch attacks as bait to lure a dash punch; preferably an ex dash punch for an easy throw/zone setup, or a jump in attack? Most interesting. It’s easy for certain characters to feign attacks, particularly shotos with the use of standing jab, as the first frame can occasionally fool an opponent to think it’s a fireball and they get dp’ed for free. I rarely use bait tactics with ‘false pokes’ with my Sim to lure a specific attack, but I’m always willing/wanting to learn new tricks and tactics.

First off - well done!
I love your sonic boom evasions — you mix it up on the regular with cr.lk slide, tower, and fadc’s — my only question is do you ever use roundhouse spear as an evasion? I noticed in both of these matches you didn’t use a spear attack once, either as defense or offense. Guile and Rog are both clock-draining-see-who’s-more-patient battles… but I was just curious. I use spears vs just about everybody, for one reason or another.
Either way, love your work, and I value your input in this thread. My blood alcohol level is either brag-worthy or embarrassing to the general public, so I might be missing a few points I was hoping to state. Either way, good games! Still working on a way to get a video or 2 up on here, I’ve got some crazy good battles saved to share.
My guess is that he is trying to preemptively stuff a dash punch to keep Rog out.
Mummy is a fantastic tool, I’m actually surprised you don’t see it applied more often. It’s especially awesome against ball / hop happy Blankas since it you can hit confirm into super on both accounts and it beats ball and ex ball clean.
Thanks for the kind words. I find that s.FP is SO slow that quick opponents can react to them with two in ones. For example, I play a Gouken / Dudley player named Jacob Ford (gamertag ShengLongAbuser). He’s one of the top players in TN and one of the best Goukens in the country. As Dudley he WILL stand just outside of s.FP range. If you throw one out he WILL s.FK -> ex machine gun blow, score a knockdown and be standing over you for a wakeup mixup that has a 50% chance of winning the match. The only way to not completely lose s.FP as a tool is to desensitize him to my animations. “Feint” tactics are central to my gameplay these days as my scene is full of strong players and they all know the Sim matchup like crazy. Shoto’s can lp srk on reaction, etc. So, instead… crouch back fierce baits out an SRK, s.FP punishes them. Then, they are hesitant to throw out the SRK next time. Plus, it’s not like you have anything better to be doing from full screen, anyway. On that note, I also use crouching LP a lot, for example at the beginning of the round. It’s low enough to miss most reversals (like balrog’s headbutt), but makes them feel like trying it anyway, so free punish. Also, any hit you land demoralizes them a bit. You know you’ve won a round against most players when you score 3 consecutive standing fierces. They lose their cool and as long as you can keep yours you’ll probably win.
I do value RH drill as a method of evasion, especially since it makes the opponent think you’re going to jump, often they jump to meet you air to air with a meaty poke and you land before them ready to anti air or trip guard. I don’t know why I didn’t then. I often forget tactics and then spontaneously remember them, which can be useful in confusing the opponent, lol… alternately, it’s useful in getting me killed.
I’m a bit embarrassed when I watch those matches, now. For the record, I tech throws much better in local play. T_T
Great matches Shawn…I’ve a lot of problems vs Rogs, and I lose also vs noobs because online I don’t know why, I alway eat overhead punch
Just a question: why vs Guile, especially in the corner, don’t you use at all d.hp? He expected your j.hp a lot of times.
A general note: When I was playing these matches I was in a ‘casuals’ mindset. In that mindset I do a lot of stupid shit and try different things out to feel out the opponent.
Also, I’m definitely not the best Sim around these parts. I’m better at knowing what to do than I am at doing.
That said: I did crouching strong at least once when he was expecting a sniper. I probably could have done something different than I did. c.FP feels like it has a lot of recovery and startup. I use it, certainly, but I generally favor crouching strong.
I feel like I played better against this guile: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/game-galaxy-arcade-super-street-fighter-4 @ 30:44
By the way, I’ll be playing in 2 SSF4 tournaments both streamed live featuring the best players from TN and KY this Saturday the 3rd of July starting at noon. Here’s the event page: http://battlestream.net/event/nashville-tn-july-3rd-game-galaxy-ssf4-st-12noon-sbo-warmup-july-3-2010
Nice matches, Shawn. If I can get a grasp on the Boxer matchup, I will be very happy. I think the Guile matchup is the only matchup I’m now 100% comfortable with, only because it’s titlted in 'Sims favor.
Couple of my matches from the 2v2 last weekend here in SD:
Justin.tv - The Box Arena - Tournament Starts 7-8pm PST Jun 26 2010 at 8:57PM PDT
vs. Honda (mike ross) @ 33:30
vs. Blanka @ 125:20
vs. Cammy @ 136:20
Would have been nice to win vs Stein, he’s a solid Cammy but I had opportunities to catch him with Shangrila in the 3rd.
I definitely think U2 is the way to go in that match up.

Guile/Sim might have been in Sim’s favor in vanilla, but there is no way in hell that matchup favors Sim in Super. It takes a top notch Guile to give Sim trouble, but man when you run into one it is a nightmare. All those matches Arturo & Dieminion played a month or so ago shows just about the best of each character and I can’t see how it is anything other than 5-5, or 5.5 in favor of Guile. His reduced Sonic Boom charge time and quick recovery means it is the one fireball war that Sim doesn’t win by default, and Sonic Hurricane basically negates Catastrophe and also gives him a nice option to chip you to death if necessary. Shangri-La is viable in this matchup but it can be very hard to find the opening to use it if the Guile is above average.
Now I’m no Art, but I’ve been running some long sessions w/ Lamerboi lately, and every single match is a grinding war of attrition since Guile’s defense is so damn good. Almost every round comes down to the final seconds like the Art/Dieminion matches, because a good Guile is so hard to do damage to, especially for Sim. If it’s not a long ass round it’s shortened only because Sim was able to land a combo into super or he made a few mistakes and got the shit stomped out of him by a couple Guile combos.
<<< This vid has it all; the last second rounds, the quick rounds from making a couple mistakes, Hurricane negating Catastrophe, the frustration of trying to do damage as Sim, etc. I hadn’t watched this since it happened live, but I just can’t see this matchup being in Sim’s favor at all.
It’s hard to recover the life lead in that match.
