Dhalsim Video Thread

haha, I sometimes try to do stuff like that with the super too. it’s quite risky tough, often involves a lot of commitment by moving forward that fast.

Hello Sim-Board =) Can I get some criticism on my Dhalsim play <3

Don’t throw out Yoga Fires recklessly (I think you stopped after the first round). Against Blanka it is more effective to throw out random db.lp to stop balls than to try to hit them with Fires.

Incorporate YT into your game against a slide-happy Blanka.

After you get a knock-down with Inferno, you should slide (either lk or mk depending on the situation) to make the Ultra mix-up more dangerous.

As Sim, you really need to master throw-teching.

The only reason to throw out j.lp would be for Ultra mix-up purposes.

I think this strategy is good against slow jumping characters (not Sim himself because he can air teleport lol) like Chun Li or Dictator. Probably an alternative way could be using KKK teleport (that has smaller recover than PPP) instead of two slides.

I add this: use EX blast as a finisher. Or sometimes as reversal if pressed.
Against Blanka, remember to use b.mp against his boring jump-in.

Yeah, it’s the most important skill for a Sim player. Crouch teching is one of the best defensive technique… they can only punish you with a special throw or an overhead

patience in the blanka matchup
member sim is a very matchup heavy character

i def need to disagree because crouch teching Only works against beginner to intermediate players, it does not work against great players. It is also bad for dhalsim. What you need to learn is late-teching, (wait, what is late teching) its teching when your opponent throws out a grab and you delay it by a second. A good example is if you are versing a sagat player and he has a full bar, he can just uppercut FADC uppercut FADC grab. What you do is not grab but wait for the uppercut and if there is no uppercut you can then just late tech. You CANT guess the grab and just grab and then get hit with an uppercut.
I am telling you this because i have played many matches with players like Chris Hu, Justin, Sanford and other great players and when they notice you crouch tech, they can just dash back or delay there attack to beat you and this is a very important situation to understand because this is one of the reason why top players are at the top.

One main reason why so many dhalsim players cant compete with good players is because they try to guess to much, but they don’t understand that Sim is a character that requires countering, NOT guessing.

that’s all i wanted to say

Crouch teching usually is late teching. The timing is different from stand teching. Also, you shouldn’t be guessing with your techs. You should probably be timing your tech attempts during blockstun to prevent a whiffed grab.

Or a delayed special attack or a delayed normal, since you have to commit to throwing a short out if the opponent doesn’t go for throw. It’s really not as great as people make it seem.

Fuck crouch tech’ing if they have 2 bars.

Some new Iyo vids!: (I think they are new, haven’t really kept up to date with this game).

Man, Iyo uses back short, stand short to control ground advancement so good. You have to love the hit confirm super off of the overhead VS Satorai. wow

I agree he is so good at stopping dashers. I totally neglect it and end up eating jump ins or shoryu / throw mix ups because I stick out laggy normals and they jump or tatsu or ex hadouken or whatever.

Thanks for the tips =) I just picked up Sim without really learning his setups or tricks, short/forward.Slide -> Ultra makes so much friggin’ sense >.<

I usually hit lk~lp when crouch blocking strings

db light kick has a chance to hit before a a follow up move hrow hits\connects me or if im grabbed it mostly techs

lk~lp seem to tech better for me rather than crouch lp+lk i tried to mash throw to tech but that never worked for me.

i may try doing lp~lk for the quicker frames but im not sure if hitting low with the lk is an advantage?

maybe can practice DF.LK~LP xx special/super

dont do it too much or it will get baited =D

mesh: I’m not really an expert player, but it is my humble opinion that trying to option select tech is generally not a good idea. Remember, it’s better to eat a throw than to eat a 30%-40% combo.

I usually try to time my crouch teching a bit late. Also, whenever you are blocking a string of jabs and shorts, keep a sharp eye out for the exact moment when the opponent’s stand up animation starts. Most of the time, they stand up to go for a throw.

Yeah, and crouch teching is exactly the BEST way to avoid GUESSING
After a FADC, your opponent could DP, grab or starting a low attack combo. You’ll counter only the first two options with late teching, all of them with crouch teching.

C. tech IS a late tech with strange timing… the weak thing is that you cannot grab if you’re crouched, so it’s a defensive tool only. I like to using it when I’m in the corner.

Iyo is really an impressive player. Watching this recent videos you can see how much he has improved his game and matchups comparing to the older ones.

Look at 1:17!
I think he does a b.mk xx yoga flame MP (not LP), and then an instant second b.mk xx yoga flame LP. He wait to see if flame connects, and THEN perform a super (he doesn’t cancel flame to super!). I think this hit confirm is possible only if the opponent is in the corner. Awesome trick!

er those matches are older videos, that was from shizowa cup…still its really impressive though

yeah i agree with getting thrown over a combo because against some characters if i get hit it takes to much like rufus :x but i did hear mp~lp+lk is good against dive kick? but im not to sure as im stressing to get away from him hehe
