I play really bad in the first 2 rounds…
I don’t know why I had serious problems in crouching tech against Sagats.
Against Ryu/Ken I did it well, but Sagat is slower, so timing should be different…
Any other advices?
Probably I jumped and did mk slide too much and I should learn to react more with back dash (it’s not in my muscle memory yet). Punish tiger shot with teleport is not easy as I thought… If I teleport and hit him with jb.hp normally I don’t have to time to combo with b.mk and I ate an uppercut.
Yeah back dash is really good in this match.
Mk slide should stop. For bad jump-ins use sweep or ex upflame. For pressure up close use short slide xx fire. It’s a lot safer and is really hard to counter since it’s so fast, and it keeps you from being right next to them.
During fireball wars jump hk drill over low shots and slide under high ones. Close the gap so you can punish during a firebal wars.
could you be more specifik here? I barely back dash vs sagat and don’t see why it should be specifically good here
oh and btw, I’d love some comments on the vids I posted too from anyone
EDIT: gore, you need to train at reacting accordingly to sagats tiger shots. a lot of times you just froze and blocked full screen shots. at that range it should be easy to react accordingly with tower/drill/slide/fireball
trying to punish tiger shots with teleport is often not worth it, you have to predict it and if you do it wrongly you’re in deep skit >:
I think backdashing after a safe blocked Tiger Knee is your go-to option. You can really start fucking with Sagat’s if you condition them to think you’re going to backdash – they’ll Tiger Knee in anticipation of the dash, only to find that you’re standing there blocking and ready to punish hard.
Here you play pretty well, nice reflex.
Try to not jump while he has ultra, cause his f+hk could hit you.
That sagat seems to not punish your teleport with reversal TU though…
I usually don’t make front IATs, but they’re good if he try to counter TP just jumping back and hk/hp.
The guys in the background seems to be very very idiot, I had to switch off the audio.
Fortunately that Sagat doesn’t know how to air attack (trading), so your air counters work great (nice timing). He also do not finish some combos starting from cr.lk.
Nice at 2:22 when you TP twice to leave the corner.
Just one question: when he does TU -> FADC -> grab, do you crouch grab or do a normal grab? The problem is that he could mix up doing another TU or some comboed cr.lk…
This is one of those situations where you ‘late-tech’. Because the throw tech window is relatively big, you delay your tech EVER so slightly – if throw comes out you end up teching, if TU comes out you end up blocking.
The only thing I can think of is that you don’t use limb baiting much. At least not from what I could see while I was at work. You’re much more skilled than I am though, so you might have your reasons for not doing that for all I know.
Ya, you don’t really want to be limb-baiting against Sagat in a lot of situations. In a fireball war, a limb bait is just going to get drilled by a fast tiger shot or lose you a moment of time in which you could be repositioning. And at anti-air range, a limb bait might get caught by a Tiger Knee, if the Sagat you’re playing is the type who fishes for pokes. In this matchup, I really only try and do anything when its necessary/free.
You can read your opponent to determine when it’s safe to limb bait, but without real knowledge of your opponents playstyle, baiting is dangerous against a Sagat player.
I understand what you mean, I generally do late techs: I can see them because my Sim is pushed away.
But you forget to say me if you’re crouched or not while teching
Ya gore, you want to crouch tech. The reason for this is that after the focus-dash they have three options: TU, Throw, or low-attack (crouching short). Stand-tech prevents 2/3, while a successful crouch-tech prevents them all.
yea unfortunally jumping to dodge fballs is pretty bad in this match. its a constant battle to stay in s.fp range, if you dont punish consistantly u lose health and sagat gets to much meter to deal with.
also tele on reaction to fireball is def a no go. the only time that the punish is worth it is if you have super and if you guess ex tiger shot. thats when the risk reward is worth it, especially if you have ultra mix up after words. If not its not worth it, youll eat that TU.
last thing i saw, when sag does the 3 block sting into tiger knee, slide under the knee on reaction if you can.
I play a little bit better, but sometimes I forgot I’ve b.hk to counter jumpin… I was too nervous. I also failed a lot of IAT, doing nothing, cause the height of TP was too low.
I didnt watch the entire video, but I noticed one thing immediately – in the fireball war against Sagat, you use jab Fire. Don’t! Use fierce Fire instead! It controls space more quickly and will help A LOT in the Sagat fireball war… or any fireball war, really!
wait a sec, why have I use hp fireballs?
They disappear, they probably have the same recovery of lp version but they will not hit at all at 3/4 distance. You can’t pressure him with s.hp because he’s not in blockstun blocking the fireball.
The only advantage I know is that he’ll go down on hit.
Do you have more time to tower/dodge/drill the next Sagat shot if you use HP fire?
I’ve seen a couple of Iyo video… It seems he only use LP or EX. Maybe MP, but never HP.
