I’m telling you guys his dmg is buffed! I talk numbers from training mode here, not any anallysis of pixels in matches! He is buffed across many of his normals, ranging from 5-70 more dmg, and his specials are buffed as well! Some things stay the same, but the generall tendensy is buffing in dmg!
(Note: this info is from the latest version that has been available for playing, so I don’t see why they would change it back)
Why are you so sure Sabin? Have you been in training mode with Super SF IV Dhalsim?
SimSimIV: I don’t have access to the game like you guys, I’m just going by what is said on the dev blog…according to Az’s translation (which specifically said that general damage was lowered overall…except sim’s.) It didn’t mention damage toneups.
Stronger throw is nice, drills being “better” could be nice, and an indirect damage increase is also nice. I think I’d still like to see stun values and some more consistency with the damage on his normals, but overall it’s not looking too bad. Anything we can get. I’d still like b.lk to chain and link into b.mk but that won’t happen.
Upflame doesn’t seem quicker, and ex upflame might have gotten a little more priority (Doesn’t trade as often) But that is speculation.
Think you might be able to combo of a mummy if you hit at the tip of their foot, like with super in sf4, super seems to be easier to link after it atleast.
lk slide does not combo into flame or fire
don’t think ex flame comboes after b.medium, but not sure
dunno about the srk mashing
it doesn’t really seem like capcom wants major shifts in the old cast due to the introduction of the new characters. Whether overt or not it will encourage people to try out the new characters. I think everyone knows fanatics will always play their favorite character so what difference does it make? If dhalsim moves up a couple spots that is fine. We all knew what we were getting into with him to begin with.
Minimal changes to 'Sim. Now lemme see if I have this right:
dmg is the same compared to Vanilla, though allegedly 'Sim is the only character not to receive any nerfs to damage
Increased damage on counter hits (how about stun off counters?)
Improved throws (Range? Damage? Both?)
Improved mummies (?)
Full screen EX fire (that means it won’t burn out, right?)
Though it’s a step in the right direction, I’m hard pressed to see right now how it’s gonna help him in Super. While it can be argued that a few tweaks can seemingly make him OP, there could have been some more changes added to the above in order to make some of his more difficult matchups better. Would it have been too much to have a true block string? Being able to link into B+MK? Better upflame improvement?
Yeah SFIV’s blocking system basically will ensure that Dhalsim has no real block string. At most I see the buffs moving him to a clear mid tier. Though now that offense is trying to be the big factor in SFIV…I just don’t see where Dhalsim is going to fall into top tier. No character that didn’t rack up big damage or stun was anything close to top tier in SFIV and I don’t think that will change in Super. Dhalsim will pretty much just be a technical zoning/space oriented character that will lose to people getting in on him for free.
Well 'sim used to have the best throw range / priority outside of Zangief. Would be nice to see him back there.
If EX flame also travels not only further but faster, that’ll be a win/win. It seems to move somewhere between LP and MP fire speed atm.
I can’t imagine what they did to drills to improve them. Priority? Juggle? Flying Squirrel tag-assist?
You know, I find myself attracted to characters that face an uphill battle. Mid-tier is fine with me, especially if it’s solid mid-tier. Sim is and always has been an extremely unique character with interesting tools to win matches, for better or worse. Even his drills have a use in SFIV… they give further control to his floaty jump making his options greater in the air. Granted, they aren’t offensive like in ST, but they’re still useful in some way.
He seems to be just fine with the buffs they’re giving him. I’m pretty sure he is still going to be my main.
Yeah they’re real useful against characters like Rufus who will just j.HK to EX snake strike or raw EX snake strike any of that stuff. You can control yourself right into 300+ damage. I just haven’t seen any good Dhalsim player use a dive in a matchup for much anything and that’s pretty sad when they were a big part of his game in earlier games. The dives aren’t even quick so the control you have is super limited. Any character has time to react to a drill if you’re not doing anything but using the drill to run away from the opponent. I mean SFIV isn’t the most offensive game ever but u can’t tone a character like Dhalsim so hard to the point where the majority of his offensive tools either don’t work right or at all.
Dhalsim does have a lot of ways to move around the screen but dives right now aren’t one of them unless u like losing. So I’ll be really happy to see Dhalsim return more to his true self.
I definitely agree with you in that it’s fun to not pick a character that covers a lot of the game’s options with 2 buttons and brings different things to the table but especially now Dhalsim’s gonna have to bring an offensive package this time or suffer being the guy who does great until someone suffocates him. Dhalsim being a really good character in Super would be really interesting. Especially since even if he was top tier he would require a sense of ingenuity that wouldn’t be able to be picked up by just any random person.
drills are good to dogde fireballs and comeback to the initial position i.e having no hang time in the air. Once in a blue moon you can drill away but you’re bound to eat massive damage like deviljin was saying. I can understand sim having minor changes as Iyo won the first national with sim. Knowing that all character dmg have been reduced it increases by alot sim’s stamina. Im just scared that all the new rushdown character can get in like it was free vs sim. =[
Yeah it’s basically they either buff Sim’s offense big time or he still loses to half the cast. From what I’m hearing his defensive oriented game in IV isn’t getting changed much.
