Dhalsim improvement thread

Seth said that he and Rose were strong at the moment, not that they would be top tier, and Psych0sh0t, he was already top tier over a decade ago in ST. =p

He just said Dhalsim and Viper and a few others have some nice tricks up their sleeves. What is up with SRK taking tiny tidbits of interviews and blowing it out of proportion? Seth saying x character is more interesting =/= Seth saying x character is top tier.

he’s been tops before.

I could have sworn that someone asked who he thought would be tops and he mentioned sim. Maybe i was just hearing wrong.

Okay, I got some info now since I just came back from fight club. About the ultra… I honestly think that you can set up some nasty ways to land it. Now I’m pretty sure you guys know what it looks like, but here are a few ways that I have applied and landed it. YOU CAN ACTUALLY INSTANT AIR THE ULTRA!!! One set up I have was throw a FB and fadc forward. Knowing that they were going to block, right at the end of block-stun instant air’d ultra that ass. Another way that I have landed it was again throw an FB and IAT behind and the Ultra’d. The good thing about this is that it will put second thoughts in your opponents mind if they actually want to jab out or use whatever option the have to knock sim out the air. There may be a few other ways to land it that I already forgot about until a few vids get out. I would also say that it SEEMS (Not sure if true) that some of his limbs come out a bit faster. I wish I was put into more situations where I could really test out yoga blasts and flame. I made it to the fourth round of the tourney and I got edged out by Watson.

Drills seem pretty much the same. I pretty much still use them to avoid projectiles. But I can say this… He does feel more fluid I guess. I don’t really know how to explain it, but he does. Overall, it was a little difficult to actually test out things with such a short amount of time before the tourney started because peeps we’re playing to win. Which was expected. Overall, I feel that Sim will probably be considered low tier, but may bump up a few spots. But with the new ultra and the proper set-up or maybe even catch them pressing a button and catch them with a IA ultra. And it has pretty fucking good range as well.

On a side note… WATCH THE FUCK OUT FOR SAGAT! There is something sinister within him now that I only got a glimpse when someone played him versus me. All I remember is that he grabbed his chest and the screen turned black. The guy didn’t know what to do so we all just had the WTF look on our faces.

Oh and another thing that was kind of a head scratcher. Some guy playing balrog and he landed his new grab ultra on me. It didn’t really do too much damage to me so I had a few pixels of health left. So I was like, “Cool, I can work out of this.” And then when I woke up from the ground. I WAS FUCKING STUNNED!!! So I don’t really know if it’s actually part of Rog’s ultra exclusively, or now ultra combos actually count towards stun damage now.

That’s all I can remember until some of the vids we took comes up…

Any changes to Sim’s back normals? How did the slides feel? Is yoga flame still HcB? I wish i could have went. >.> Props to everyone that took footage.

Nothing noticeable to be honest with you. Flames are still HcB. He does seem a tad bit quicker with limbs, but that could just be in my head. Until I lost to Watson, I was playing a pretty tough zoning game with my far limbs. Hell, I ran over his Ryu pretty nicely. But his Sagat… Man, all I can say is his O.G. fundamentals and footsies were on full display right there. Plenty of well space tiger shots and a few yomi uppercuts we’re a lil to much. I really do feel though just for that match-up, if I’d went back to Catastrophe I would have had a better chance.

Plus it’s fucking Mike Watson… I was a lil nervous.

B.MK crosses up on SF4 as well…

Really? I’ve never seen it used before, and I play a lot of Sims in my city. My bad, thanks for pointing that out.

that new sim ultra is gonna be pretty nice regardless, tons of applications i can think of for it already.
shouldnt take too much stock in the fact that his normals arent changed or tweaked any, its not the final sf4 build

^^^ I really wish that I’ve gotten to really mess around with the range of the ultra a little more. I also had a few setups as well that I think might come in handy if my thoughts are correct from the time spent playing.

It might just be me seeing what I want to see, but Dhalsim looks a little ‘heavier’ in this vid… not as floaty as his vanilla version. Any truth to that, Buster?

@ Tofu: Gerjay’s Sim fucks with airborne b+forward when he’s feelin’ it, i think.

@Sabin: What kinda uses do you see the new ultra having? Do you think it’ll be a contender to replace Catastrophe as the go-to ultra?

Well, this one definitely is very different from his old ultra - the usage of this ultra reminds me more of the IAT BnB combo to super.

Basically it acts more of a counter rather than setup or ground defense like the old ultra.

Another thing I can see this ultra do is beef up his defense on the air since a lot of shotos like to do psychic DP whenever Sim jumps to counter his limbs.
With this ultra, those psychic DPs suddenly become very dangerous to do since whiffing one means eating an ultra.

can you tiger kne the ultra via jump back > low to the ground ultra? it might be an ok counter if used that way… hmmm.

-dime

Fast and seemingly invincible. That’s all it needed. Now if they could change the last half of the animation…
Dime - i believe that’s what buster was talking about when he said instand air ultra on his post on the page before.
edit- just a thought, full(ish) screen lariat punish?

No, he still as floaty as vanilla. Since this was not the final build that we played I think they only thrown in a few tweeks actually. Basically the shit that would truly catch your attention like ultra’s and things like that. I was still in the hyped up mode when I made the initial post so now that I had some time to marinate on it. In the the build we played, I do remember trying to see if ex-yoga flame had any invulerabilty, but to no avail. I still would not be a wake-up option. So until the release of the true version. I don’t even have an idea of what to expect when it comes to the “slight” changes to sim.

Man, it’s gonna be fun baiting DPs with Air Teleports and then punishing with the new Ultra. Even if it doesn’t do that much damage, it’ll make Dhalsim more threatening and that’s something he really needed.

@konkrete: I was wondering the same thing (about Zangief lariat). It would keep Zangief from doing full screen lariat to build meter.

I understand they want Sim to be different than any other iteration yet play to his style of zoning opponents out.

Qucker recovery on many of Sim’s special moves. I’m not saying make them instant but the way it is now you do a move and you just sit out there similar to like when an opponent misses thier ultras.

Mummy drill needs to be quicker.
Drills need to have a little more priority.
Upflame is not really good at all. Sure if you can predict your opponent is going to jump, it might work but due to start up you really have to guess way in advance.
Improve his upclose game some. The argument that if you cant keep your opponent out then that is your fault does not work. As many have stated unfortunately 2/3 of the cast can get in pretty easily.

Now I know this wont happen but I would like to see an air throw. Even one you could do after the teleport.
The ability to throw your ultra and throw another fire to lock opponent down. For instance they are in the corner, you throw your ultra and currently they can jump over or bounce off wall, or hurricane across. With my scenario after the ultra you could throw a upflame to keep them honest.
The ability to do more two in one moves. Due to recovery on many of Sim’s moves you can not link many moves which is also what many of you have brought up.

I actually love Sim’s fireballs. I think it is great he has a slow one which goes across the screen but very, very slow. But how about a very, very fast one that travels about the distance of sakuras or Dan? The middle one would be just that in between the other two. As in HDR make the fierce and strong knock the opponent down and the jab could be a move that could be comboed/linked into something else.

Anyways, Sim is different and you definitely have to learn him differently than the other iterations. He’s fun and like just about any Sim version has a steep learning curve. Heres to hoping they do something positive and great with Sim in SSFIV. Cant wait.

wow, I forget about that. Sim’s Fierce and strong FB should really knock down.

MAN that would be nice…

The thing about sim is you have to play 110% every match in order to compete. I got randomed out at a tourney this weekend because of the sim factor.

errr, mp and hp fireballs do knock down.
poison - his drills don’t need better priority as they’re active throughout. They need less recovery most importantly, then maybe faster or faster startup but you don’t want to make them too good because then he gets too good up close. I would like to combo from it though. And idk if he needs an air throw, especially because depending on the range it would make his iat setups a little too good.
