Dhalsim General Thread: The Longer it Gets, the Harder it Hits

already posted, woops

Oh btw guys… Sim has already been toned down from the trailer… I just found out. In the trailer he cancels cr. Mp in to fireball, but in the CC build it is not cancelable.

Sounds something Capcom will do. Lol.
Combofiend please show us what we seem to be missing.

maybe this is a sign they will now give his normals better startup

lol nah

@MarLonLonMilk BTW where’s this supposed extra footage Arturo had of him playing? We’re probably still waiting on the 3rd beta at this point, but looking to see if he started to put anything like air yoga flame or yoga float to the test as those seem to be more important than a lot of his grounded normals.

Without air flame height restriction and v-skill height restriction + start up on grounded version (can react by dash up dp now) + maybe cancelability in to v-skill, Dhalsim would be golden!

I also want to see extra Art footage! But I am not sure it exists. He only said Art was shaping up? Not thar he got footage?

are you sure it was c.MP? It’s the same as Necro’s c.MP which wasn’t cancelable in 3S. I think the trailer showed b.HP xx yoga fire which I’m pretty sure hasn’t been removed.

Edit: I watched the trailer again. I didn’t realize it showed his c.MP. Not sure if that was a cancel or his c.MP is quick to recover. Need some new footage to confirm.

Wouldn’t know when he’d put it out, but he recording himself playing SFV all three days with a camcorder (on a tripod). I’d like to see it soon as well as he was doing better with Sim than pretty much everyone else there.

You know guys…these are early days. The character was just released. The game isn’t coming out tomorrow. Let’s not engage full OHMYGODHESUCKS yet.

I thought this too seeing how he had a “flight”, i thought it was very anime/marvel esque
But like Fchamp is an excellent marvel player and still found nothing so to speak.
Hopefully, there’s something that makes sim really strong that we haven’t found

Haha Art was a tester for Injustice and the characters came out horribly imbalanced. I don’t really hold with a lot of weight his hot takes on the character, and FChamp just says a lot of crazy things in general. I was also watching his vids and he was playing him exactly like SFIV Sim so I can already safely assume he’s playing him wrong.

I don’t know why people haven’t learned by now. Obviously the character is incomplete. They just pushed him out to get the reveal done. But some of the changes you’re asking for would seem to make him awfully strong. With a character like Sim that’s so heavily a zoner you have to be extremely careful to not make him head and shoulders better than everyone else. There’s a reddit article from a guy who also shared his opinion on Sim. Not sure if we can link to that.

It was linked earlier. Honestly I think the guy with the reddit article had a better outlook on the character than any of the top Sims there. It seems like they just kinda went brute force in trying to make him work a certain familiar way, didn’t like it and called it quits on viability for the character.

Even if Sim were to get changes that made him over powered, it’s not like everyone is going to play him and there is going to be an army of Sim players . I laugh when people say this. He was top tier in ST but you had to be amazingly good. It was easier to pick up Balrog, Vega or anyone else before learning Sim. Over the last few years other characters have won besides Sim in ST. Again you have to be on point with his moveset.

Some people have mentioned Alpha 3 version Sim and again you have to be on point with all his normals and ranges. If not you are going to lose. Basically he is not as forgiving as some other characters.

I think people have legitimate concerns. If we are saying Sim is going to be a true zoner he may need some more tools. The game is very rush down oriented and most of, if not all characters have a way to counter fireballs.

With that being said though, let’s hope Capcom legitimately listens to concerns as opposed to what they didn’t do in SFIV. I think most people would agree that his reveal had been accepted positively. Now hopefully Capcom can build on that. Once he is in the next beta we can build from there.

Zato in Guilty Gear is the same. Character that requires a lot of neutral work and a shit ton more executional work than Sim, but the reward you get is a character that is OP in pretty much every game he’s been in (including the newest one) except for like one game (he was like randomly C Tier in Slash). A top tier character that is only accessible to the few and the proud doesn’t make them a wonderfully balanced top tier. Doesn’t make them way better for the game.

People having ways around fireballs ironically doesn’t affect Sim very much. Even though he’s a zoner he is also apparently the MOST anti projectile character in the entire cast. Ironic huh? SFV Sim optimized will pretty much never have to get in a fireball war. Just float over them and bop people on head with yoga sniper or j.HP. Meaning the last thing he needs is a strong horizontal projectile game. His fireballs arcs in a way that pretty much none of the anti projectile tools have any real use for any way. It pretty much just shoots at an arc that stops any type of jump which is still really powerful for a projectile which usually aren’t capable of that. Anti air projectiles seem to be more common in this game than other SF games.

I do agree that like Nash, the best thing this character needs is just some time to get cracked out. He has a lot of abstracts to him and plays pretty much upside down compared to old Sim.

They’re children’s skulls, not chimp skulls.

is yoga flight unlimited, or does it eventually run out?

It lasts 2-3sec if you do nothing but float, and ends immediately if you do a move in the air.

Another Sabin set. Probably after getting more familiar with Dhalsim.

Some first impressions:

Dhalsim’s normals don’t do nearly as much gray life damage as I thought, and probably less than everybody else’s gray damage output. This is probably more balanced than if he did as much as everybody else since his far fierce hits low, and he does have some good high/low options.

When the other character is sitting in Sim’s flame carpet, they take gray life until they actually take a hit, and then they begin draining actual life.

V-reversal doesn’t have any gray damage scaling within the guts system compared to all other normals that scale by the guts system.

Sabin doesn’t do drills :frowning:

I’m speculating that if you get EX fireball to juggle, you can follow it up with air yoga flame.

Sim’s backdash is LOL.

Metroxylon posted one of the two, but these are the 2 videos Arturo/Sabin recently uploaded of his Sim. @MarLonLonMilk made it sound like he was recording all weekend so expect more stuff to get on the Team Spooky page soon.
