Dexter Season 5: Sept. 6th With a New Trailer!

stop trolling.

You don’t need to. Decent season, but nothing really happens.

Me and the wifey are still gonna go through it. Still didn’t like what happened to Rita. At all. I think they really fucked up, and as far as I can tell, it left the show rudderless.

Season 1 is still the best IMO, but 4 is a close second (minus the last 5 minutes).

How can you not like this:

I actually liked the ending of S4…

Why? It happened because the writers didn’t know what else to do, and I don’t think they wanted to deal with writing dexter as a family man.

Personally for me it goes like this…

2 = 4 > 1 > 5 > 3

Season four’s ending felt too rushed.

I felt it was an ending worthy of the season. There was no way Dex was getting away from someone as skilled as Trinity without some major collateral damage. It was fitting. If Dex got away clean, the full impact of the story would be somewhat diminished.

I kind of felt the same way. On one hand, I fully understand why the writers killed her off. There was the unspoken question of the season: can Dexter have it all (a family plus his serial killer lifestyle)? The answer was no, and they used Rita’s death to punctuate that. On the other, Trinity still finds her out of nowhere (I STILL don’t know how he found Dexter’s home and Rita), which kind of makes this seem like something they thought up at the last minute to be “edgy.”

Was it the right decision? Looking at S5 (even though it was decent), I’d say no. I don’t think they give her death enough weight over the season. Still, I understand why they took that chance.

maybe they had to do it cause she was leaving the show in real life… But yeah, that was one of the best endings to a tv series for me in a long time. Not because it fit the story or anything like that…but just for the simple fact i was actually really disturbed after that episode. Like i can watch movies and see people’s heads blown up etc etc…hell i can even see people get fucked up on the news and not bat an eye. But for whatever reason that ending kind of shook me a little. It actually made me think like man that would be the most fucked up thing for a person to go through. I gotta take my hat off to the director for that one.

anyway…i also agree with you. How the fuck did he find dexters house. He got debs address out of the phone book…like she’s just going to have her brothers address lying around the house. Like who does that?

The fact that Season 4’s ending was so shocking that it felt unreal, pretty much signifies why it was such a good ending. It was a consequence of Dexter’s actions (and inaction) and so horrifying that even he was emotionally spent. Blood was the only thing that could really inspire the emotion needed for him to feel the same horror he had in childhood. If Rita was just shot or bludgeoned it would’ve been shocking for Dexter (and us) but the impact would’ve been far less.

Born in blood

Spoiler

Apart for the repeating motif of Dexter’s son also being “born in blood” we can look back to season one where his brother Brian lead Dexter into a room filled with blood setting off his primal fears that he had not felt since childhood, a clear indicator of Dexter’s innermost fear.

Speaking of the born in blood thing, what I really like is how it’s meaning has evolved over the seasons.

Dexter

Spoiler

At first it was more of a direct fear over seeing his mother being killed and the traumatic scars associated with it. Now, there’s still some of that aspect, but it felt like the main fear was of his son becoming like him because of what happened.

everyone that is questioning how did trinity find dexter house… ummmm didnt he roll up on him at his job n found out his real name… n in previous episode didnt he have his information out there for babysitters n such…

She wasn’t leaving though. I read an interview where Julie Benz and the chick that plays Deb were really upset about her being written off the show. Then I read another interview where j Benz said she didn’t want to leave the show. It was something like “I get to work everyday with Michael C Hall, my favorite actor and I love the cast. Who would walk away from a show like Dexter?”

I still think it was an absolute bullshit move because the writers didn’t know what to do. In some interviews I read
The writers said they realized at the end she had to die and that they felt it served the story. Considering how season 5 is going thus far, I disagree. We’re on episode 3, and just like I suspected, they’re acting like Rita didn’t even exist.

The worst part is that I was finding Benz more and more attractive as Season 4 went on.

Anyway, Rita’s death is pretty much driving Dexter throughout Season 5. Watch the entire season and you’ll see.

Maybe it was supposed to, but it didn’t feel like it. (SPOILER?) Felt more like his driving force was his boner.

Julia Stiles doesn’t incite boners. Her heinousness makes your penis and testicles invert until they’re embedded in your lungs.

I watched season 5 awhile ago, so memory is a little hazy. But I’m agreeing with mIRC - it felt to me like the whole season was his recovering over Rita.

Somebody told me he fucks Lumen. sigh

I’m really not liking this season so far. The only redeeming thing that has happened was Dexter snapping on lumen for being a dumb ass.
