I didn’t get a douchey vibe either. But that haircut IS awful. I almost didn’t recognize him at first. Looked like a damn mutant.
just finished 4 last night…WOW. mind blown
I guess it was his lack of enthusiasm compared to John who was smiling and so excited to be talking about the episode and just the show in general.
Mike: "Yeah… it was pretty cool. checks nails."
John: "I loved working with you!"
Mike: "You decent nigga."
John: “Thanks!!!”
Yeah he didn’t come off as a douche to me. His beard and clothes made me think he’s been hiding in his mother’s basement playing MVC2, a Final Fantasy game or something, maybe Warcraft I dunno while season 4 was on the air. Guess that’s one way to keep from spoiling things in interviews. :looney:
i kind of saw as a lil itimidated of lithgow or he just didnt have his starbucks that morning.
Of course he is weird.
Dude is fucking his sister.
In most of his interviews he refrains from making eye contact most of the time, something I often do, which is why I know that’s just how he converses with people. You can often verbalize better when you’re not focusing on a person directly.
Oh and actors often augment themselves to be less conspicuous; so he probably cut his hair and grew a beard to avoid being constantly by the public. In a season 2 (or 3?) interview he had full bushy beard as well.
All I know is that between this finale and the Mad Men finale, there is going to be a tough decision in the fields of writing and directing for the academy this year for the Emmys…I wouldn’t want to make that choice…
Fixed
He got a connection on Web Soup man be careful. :wonder:
SPOILERS
Ok so first I’ll start this off saying that I just finished watching the season finale of season 4. I actually decided to watch all 3 previous seasons before I dove into season 4(I don’t have showtime), so a lot of the show as a whole is in my head right now.
I read the last 5 pages or so and just want to hit some topics
First I’d like to say the overall conclusion that one comes to in deciding whether or not they think Dexter is good or bad is not the real target of the character in my opinion. Personally I appreciate it for the ride it takes you on in coming to that conclusion. I would also like to note that just cause a character is bad or despicable in no way precludes you from being able to like him. One of my favorite themes in storytelling personally is getting an audience to truly like an evil person despite their flaws through the incredible way they humanize their struggles. You don’t have to justify Dexter as good to like and root for him.
Overall I think season 4 was great, however I for one agree with what someone said earlier in that the season finale was so chalk full of major events that it deluded them. Obviously I don’t think the big hitter at the end was deluded, that was mind blowing to me. However Debra connecting all the dots about Dexter’s biological family was a heavily foreboding concept over the course of season 4 and it was even left as a serious “oh fuck what’s gonna come of this?” moment at the end of season 3. Despite all that they basically spent 1.5 minutes of heart to heart conversation as a swat bust was wrapping up. I mean really? Debra finds out the man who falsely gained her love and devotion to try and kill her is her brother’s bio brother and all she can muster up emotionally is a reassurance in the love she has for Dexter? No questioning of the events that took place, no looking at Dex a little differently knowing he has the same DNA as a man that tried to murder her? The kill scene too seemed a little less intense that it could of been considering it took all season to get to it, however I suppose it was really meant to work in a retrospective way with what you learn directly afterward.
Some other down points of the season is just how many seemingly unbelievable parts there were compared to other seasons, don’t get me wrong I truely enjoyed season 4, FAR more than the disappointing season 3, but I don’t want to give it more credit than it deserves for having an absolutely terrific ending. I understand there is sort of a theme of how Dexter’s fascination with Arthur leads him to break the code, but there are just so many ways he puts himself out there to be caught or put in a bad position. Getting to know Arthur’s family rather than just Arthur himself, appearing in public with Arthur as a friend on multiple occasions, and more small but large oversights to the code that leave me thinking about just how likely the scenarios in the show are. However I do understand that it is a TV and the story is the focus, don’t let the facts ruin a good story I suppose. I mean don’t get me wrong like I said I still really loved this season, not quite as much overall as season 1 or 2, but that’s not a slight coming from me as I think seasons 1 and 2 are some of the best TV I’ve ever seen. I enjoyed a lot of the darker aspects of this season.
Don’t know how you got the douchey vibe, he seemed modest almost shy personality. If you want douchey watch Christian Bale when he goes off on a rant! La de fuckide la I’m the Godamn Batman!
Also am I of rare opinion that season 3 is the weakest of the 4 at this point?
Personally I just thought Jimmy Smits was just not believable at someone with a “darkness” in them. My opinion in that just becomes even stronger after seeing the dynamic nature of John Lithgow’s character. I respect the arc of the story and the direction they took it, but I dunno personally I just think Jimmy Smits and the the Miguel character itself’s shortcomings really deluded how powerful that season could have been.
You aren’t. A lot of people view season 3 as the weakest.
True.
I also agree about Trinity making Miguel Prado look like shit villain wise, and that was WAY before the later episodes when we got a huge peek into Trinity’s background.
But Prado wasn’t a sociopath or a serial killer, just an incredibly narcissistic bastard who had his own warped view of justice, exacerbated by Dexter’s methodology.
Exactly. Prado is probably Dexter’s hardest kill considering how big of a deal he was too. That counts for something.
Who else loves when Dex pulls out the judo on people? Like when he went up against Doakes in season 2. That was the shit. Or just watching him own the fuck out of Quin in Season 4. Like yall cats don’t need to be touching Dex.
Dex’s 2 second takedown of Prado is better than some full fight scenes I’ve seen. I replayed that scene a bunch of times.
Martial arts works so well for Dex because he is so technically with his actions, his lack of emotion just makes him a logical fighting machine.
Yay, Lithgow won golden globe!
It just happened, I’ll post link when it gets posted online
