Honestly, I think ShogunZ has earned the right to only be able to talk to people who might actually appreciate the game. I mean the thread has been around 140 pages of shitting on the game (with a page or two with a MvC2 vs MvC3 debate just because…). Let the man have some peace in a thread that’s supposed to be his time to actually sit down, relax and enjoy a decent conversation talking about the positives of the game rather than having to defend a constant barrage of crap.
However I’m not one of the people who will appreciate the game so I will not contribute to this discussion.
Hey smartass, why don’t you tell us what makes DmC’s game-play unique? I don’t like GOW but it’s better and more imaginative than this watered down turd.
You have a phobia to older DMC games so your ignorance makes sense. Therefore, stfu.
A)It’s a 3rd person game that’s not a shooter. Thus when at a distance of using attacks that are LINEAR, it helps with the aiming and removes the issues of targeting the wrong enemy. Anyone in here playing Anarchy Reigns? There’s this bruiser enemy that’s pretty much a fast Hulk Killer Croc. At times you can face up to 4-6 of these guys at the same time. And they LOVE ganging up on you. They take a lot of damage to kill. Guess how I’m avoiding not attacking one that didn’t take any damage as opposed to one that is already hurt? Lock on.
B)True, other games have proven you don’t NEED lock on to pull off moves but guess what? This DmC isn’t one of them. How so you ask? Because we LOST moves. If they kept the moves(even if unique to this DmC but the amount is equal in number) then lock on removal wouldn’t be so bad. Also keep in mind, Dante doesn’t have the range of Kratos or Gabriel with melee attacks. He can almost match their range with his guns which without lock on, he’ll end up targeting an enemy you don’t want. To counter GoW and LoS, how many games are 3rd person action games that use lock on? Too damn many. Those Dynasty Warrior type games use lock on all the time. And the main series has LU BU who can attack all around him almost all the time.
C)You know that camera angle issue people like to bring up with DMC and Ninja Gaiden? You know what helps with that? LOCK ON.
If lock on is so trivial, than answer this: Why is it that Aquila is specifically designed to lock enemies in place, drag them in towards you, and has such a wide radius on it’s attacks? Keep in mind this is the ONLY weapon in DmC that does this. Osiris is ass for crowd control. Eryx has Volcano with doesn’t even cover much range. Everything else that hits multiple opponents are mostly liner attacks. Like Arbiter’s launcher.
If lock on is so trivial, why is the pull/lift system in place and it’s now easier to keep up with an enemy because you can stop them from flying away which you could never do until DMC4 with Nero after guard breaking some enemies. Note in older DMCs you usually used teleporting/air dashing/stinger type attacks and you are encouraged to use guns when at a distance because the combo meter will go down AND attacks send enemies flying. Hence lock on makes the player able to maintain focus on one enemy no matter the distance.
Arguing vs lock on is like bashing shooters because you can better aim your gun thanks to the reticule. This is fucking ridiculous.
Goddamn. That just sounds so depressing. It’s a sad fact that when you work for a company, anything you create belongs to the company, not you. Sort of reminds me in the past year, more creator owned comics are showing up, since it usually meant it would belong to the publisher. There definitely has been a lot of disputes of this, with many popular creators and their publishers like Jack Kirby. I guess the only way you would own your character in a video game these days is if you made the whole game yourself, which I guess more people are trying to start to do since kickstarters are getting bigger to help fund indie projects (though there is the whole problem that some people might abuse it and scam).
Oh my god, the hypocrisy…is like…a steady strong flowing current in this thread. Who are you, and what makes you think you’ve earned the right to ask me specifics then immediately follow with a generalized, idiotic statement with nothing tangible to back it up?
@HatredEdge I see you. I totally understand the merits of lock on, but the game doesn’t cease being DMC because it’s not present, that’s all I’m saying. Well it’s not even that there’s no lock on anyway, but that it’s auto-soft. requires that you plan things a little better.
I’ve always felt like for it to be a DMC game, Dante has to feel like an extension of my hands (always how I described previous games), I don’t feel like I lose out on that in this game. I’m not saying it’s perfect but I’m saying that overwhelmingly the essence is there and it’s a solid DMC game.
Every positive thing I’ve ever read about this game usually has something to do with how mad it made someone else, even on mainstream press reviews/previews, so ironically enough the haters are the only ones actually talking analytically about the game itself. DmC fans aren’t even circlejerking about the game, just about how “wrong” everyone is, which is hilarious. This game wasn’t marketed towards casuals, it was marketed towards people who find validation through disapproval.
I guess fortunately for them, those are the only fans Capcom has left: masochists.
It’s like people want positive criticism only and you can’t say anything bad if you haven’t played it but it’s okay to say good things if you haven’t played it.
Everything I know is that he was working on RE4 and it was too different. RE3 came out in 99. I mean i guess i could be remembering wrong but i wanna say he made a mistake there.
Remember what happened when they killed off this nigga on that Gundam show? Season 2 was bullshit and the show became awful, then they introduced his twin brother Soft Lock and even that didn’t help. They even made a movie that had aliens. This is what happens when you kill Lock On
