You keep posting that vid but jimmy1200 was talking about the dumbing down of mechanics, not an easy mode. All DMC games also already have an easy mode, so it’s not even an issue with this game. Even Ninja Gaiden Black added Ninja Dog mode (they even gave you goofy glowing bracelets to show that you were a wuss). Those are all single player games but they also have high difficulty modes if they chose. The conversation about dumbing down the game came from the fact that things were changed in DmC compared to older DMCs. But when reviewing the game, I would prefer it if someone at least has experience with higher difficulty modes, because it has been stated this game was balanced top down (Balanced around DMD first, at least that is what they said in an interview). As scrotal_region was mentioning, the difficulty actually compliments the DMC playstyle, because if it was easy, then it wouldn’t be that badass or as stylish as triumphing over something that you need to work for. If someone just wanted the story, the DMC games can show you that easily because they all have easy mode and items to use, so that video doesn’t counter what people are worried about.
But in that video explaining why Dark Souls needs an easy mode, it’s a whole different kind of game and actually effects other things besides just the difficulty when it is changed. Mechanics that were built around the difficulty, such as summoning phantoms for help against enemies or for invaders to use the environment to their advantage. If the difficulty were changed it would effect both these things for example.
I’m confused by what you’re trying to say here. Are you saying difficulty settings are bad or undoable and games can only really have one setting they are meant to be played on?
That’s an awful video. It’s dishonest to assume an agenda for a large group of people, especially when probably none of them actually said the quote he was putting in their mouths. People like Dark Souls because they want to take time to figure it out, and if they do it’s gratifying. It has nothing to do with how many other people managed to do it, and the magazine comments were about straight-forwardness, not easy mode. Mystery and challenge is integral to the Dark Souls experience, and yes they will take that stuff away if they want it to be a more marketable game, because non-standard games usually aren’t marketable. Difficulty in games isn’t a “choose how quickly and with how little hassle you want before you see the ending”, that’s a dumb idea and only idiots like NT should be excused from having it.
Like I said, don’t blame these imaginary kids calling up game companies telling them their game is too hard. Blame the dumb ass executives who assume that customers are idiots and if something didn’t sell well it means that they need to make it even dumber. Nintendo went full retard for the casual market and now they’ll pick up anything they can to get back into the hardcore gamer’s graces.
I’m saying difficulty is part of the presentation of a game. I think Bayonetta did it right with Witch Time, but DmC is doing it wrong by making everything meaningless
this video probably doesn’t add any evidence, but atleast it doesn’t blatantly misconstrue people’s opinions to present its logic.
I’m basing this on Capcom and NT’s comments on the issue, and how unconcerned they are about the broken style ranking system. There’s also the assumption that DMC is about a dude named Dante with guns and a sword who does stingers and hightimes, when it’s a much more complex thing. I hope DMC can change in ways I can’t imagine, and show me an experience I didn’t already expect, but NT seems to think they can just keep cutting off limbs and the game won’t bleed to death.
I lost it when he did the Rebellion 1 combo 3 times in a row after spamming axes smashes and said “yeah there are so many moves for every weapon”. I can’t take it anymore.
Only beef I have right now gameplay wise is that I would like Son of Sparda mode unlocked at the get go. For me, once I unlocked it in the demo, there is no flipping way I would be playing anything else, and I feel the same as the game come closer to release. SoS mode and DMD modes are pretty much the only ways I want to play.
I could easily break down quote by quote what that guy was explaining in that video to be incorrect, and I’m sure you’d still be like “lol wtch da vid agin. k?”
For trolling me,** Fuck you**! - Donte: TEH demon hunter(smiley face)
Most definitely Capcom had no idea how to “understand” DMC since DMC1 was suppose to be RE3, and they pushed Capcom Studio 4 along with Kamiya out of the production of DMC2 for Istuno & Capcom Studio 1 (which later rewrote everything about DMC for 2-4) is clear evidence to that they and the Itsuno really didn’t know exactly what the fuck was going on with DMC1. Then here comes DmC.
You don’t need to be a fan of Law & Order to figure this out.
Hell, Capcom didn’t know what to do with the Dino Crisis franchise, Breath of Fire, Onimusha, Strider, Resident Evil, ect. They still don’t!
the writing has been on the shit incrusted wall for over 10 years now.
Some fans are just now getting it. Others just simply don’t care.
Nobody is giving two shits about Strider unless he’s in a versus game.
Onimusha had some good things going for it in Dawn of Dreams but a majority of people wasn’t feelin it like that so that series is a toss up right now.
If Dino Crisis were to come out now, it’ll be like DC2 and then you’d have people bitching and moaning about how it ain’t like the original.
Resident Evil franchise is still selling like gangbusters so I don’t know how you can say they don’t know what to do with that franchise.
If Capcom were to do a DMC in house again, they would play it safe but then again playing it safe would be a definitive step up in the right direction that what DmC is doing.
It’s pathetic. I don’t know of any other developer that tries to cover up any bad critical response to their games as fraudulence. Only other I recall is Factor 5 when they accused reviewers of not playing Lair properly.
