oh i said i like it, i just said it was a lazy peace of crap people got attached to, and no one should regard it highly. because its terrible game design
So because the design was lazy, no matter how good the game turns out in the end, the game should still be treated as crap.
Please explain.
For all the good SF4 brought, the worst thing it did was make people think that it blew up because it was easy and scrubby, and people drag SF4 out everytime someone argues about casuals. If all a fighting game has to do to be successful is to be easy and flashy, DOA5 would be the biggest fighting game ever made.
We all know that Hot Pursuit was Burnout: Need for Speed edition. I love Burnout so I didn’t mind one bit. Yea, seeing the old NFS staples back would be nice. As long they don’t do anymore dumb shit like The Run o_O
Why do people keep touting bullshit like this as though it’s true?
Maybe I worded that wrong… it doesn’t accurately reflect what my actual thoughts are.
“Most of the Newer/Recent/Current additions of games we grew up with are watered-down versions of what they were in the past.”
That’s better. I already explained what I meant by this, I see no need to reiterate.
in this case, yes
for example bill gates dropped out of college to make computers, sure he is a billionaire, but that’s a horrible decision. if he would have failed it probably would have turned out terrible, and no one should try and replicate that because it isn’t a good strategy in the first place, its just something memorable came out of it.
luck
*fixed
they threw a bunch of old sprites in a game changed a tiny amount of them, made 3d backgrounds and called it a day,
that’s marvel vs capcom 2
you know what i also just described
MUGEN
you know what i also just described
this
they took a bunch of old stuff mechanics(sprites and move sets), barley updated it and took the visuals ( mvc2 backgrounds) and undated them, and called it a day with little testing whats so ever.
why do you think more of the umvc3 roster is usable than mvc2 , because theyy put more effort into it that’s why.
that’s bad game design
This… makes zero sense. What makes a decision bad is the outcome of said decision. Cleary, dropping out of college was not a bad decision. Maybe it wasn’t smart, but it wasn’t bad either. It was a gamble… he took a chance and it worked out. If it didn’t, he could’ve just went back.
You’re judging the road taken rather than where it went. That alone is a weak argument.
-face palm-
catching lightning in a bottle is a stupid idea , but if you were to catch it good for you , don’t base your operations on a fluke. because it was a shitty idea in the first place.
What are we critiquing, the game itself or the way it was made? Your argument is completely out of place.
im saying that you shouldnt hold mvc2 as good game design it isnt, you just like it
the same way you dont hold dbz as good anime story telling, it isnt you just like it, you shouldn’t compare games to mvc2 not even mvc3 because mvc2 was a lucky break, because it was made shitily.
when you take an objective look, mvc2 wasnt really that great in the first place
Subjective… this is all subjective. The rest is semi-true but, look at it this way: The Lottery, all based on luck of the draw. It is not a good idea to gamble your entire life on winning the lotto. However, is the money not as viable as money earned another way? Is it not able to buy the same things?
The point I’m trying to make is, it doesn’t matter what the process was, it’s what comes out of it.
Yeah MvC2 was a lazy cash grab and the end product was dumb luck on Capcom’s part and beating the flaws out of the game by the end user. The development shouldn’t be held highly but the end product should be. I can’t think of air dasher that came before MvC2, so there might be a whole sub genre that disagrees with you on it not looking up to it.
Remember MvC2 was the watered down, scrubby version of MvC1 (4 buttons, dedicated assist buttons, THCs) look how that ended up.
no
there is a such thing as objectify good and complex gae design and story telling
if it was completely subjective English classes wouldn’t have grades , but you do get graded, because there is a right and wrong way to do things.
and again your missing the point, mvc2 has bad game design, it shouldn’t be regarded highly nor compared to other fighting games because its a shitty job. that’s it, you keep trying to pussy foot around what i am saying let me say it again
**THERE IS A SUCH THING AS OBJECTIVELY BAD GAME DESIGN, THIS GAME IS OBJECTIVELY BAD GAME DESIGN. **
it isn’t good, you just like it,i don’t want to have to get into game theory, how a fucking sequel should work, game design and all that on a forum
im on my break in college and i shouldn’t have to write essays for people who don’t get this sh**'
its nothing wrong with liking a sh*ty game, i like bunches of shty games , it doesn’t make them the pentacle of whatever genera there in.
its shty game, thats it deal with it, that game you played for a long time isn’t that good, and has less effort put into than sonic 06.
First review of the game is up. Pretty objective. Got a 7.5
You’re on break from college, huh? Me too… This is actually a good chance for you to practice persuasive writing, as well as how to hold a debate and handle counter-arguments. Just because you’re on the Internet doesn’t mean you should throw all your grammar and punctuation training out the window either. Practice these things every chance you get… You’re going to be glad you did.
Back on topic: I never said that it wasn’t a badly designed game, I pointed that out, in fact. The game is broken, that’s undeniable. What do you expect from a game full of super heroes, villains, and video game characters? That shit was never supposed to be balanced. However, whether you like it or not, something good came out of it. The game is highly regarded because it takes hard work, effort, skill, and execution. It’s also a pretty rewarding game.
What exactly in Marvel 2 is objectively bad game design? You mean that the game only has 8 characters at level of play none of you play at? With those 8 characters alone you get more match possibilities then with a lot of games that have twice as many characters.
I think 7.5 may sound a little generous. 7 sounds about right.
