Some of that could fly if they dealt with the not-covered-in-a-game Tony Redgrave years and explained Dante and Vergil’s meeting a year prior to DMC 3 (explaining the ‘Jackpot’ moment in 3 which only make sense if something like the first novel occured).
Still the half angel thing, the bits about Sparda, the new Mundus and Ebony and Ivory’s redesigns (Rebellion has the ability to change its appearance, not to this extent though) it complicates things way more than necessary.
I wish it did cover the Tony Redgrave period. They had a perfect time period to play in, without a reboot. Whatever is in an actual video game always overturns everything else, almost everyone gets that at face value.
On the plus side if the game bombs, with a reboot you can forget about. Not so easy with a canon game.
In retrospect it’s kind of funny how you have to piece together DMC’s original story through novels, never published in the US art books, an unfinished manga, an anime, 2 anime CD dramas and figure out what works and what doesn’t. Kind of nice that Ninja Theory is seemingly putting everything in the game that you need to know.
Yeah the ones for 1 and 2. We never got the 2 novels for DMC4 which is too bad. Some people are upset about Nero’s possible origin in those books but it has more insight on the world of DMC than the other two.
Or, maybe unlike the first 2 Capcom never got around to retconning a lot of stuff in those books yet.
DMC 3 was actually a fusion of both of the first two novels. Beryl became Lady. The Beast Heads became Cerberus. Gilver became, well you know. Spoiler free kinda!
How does he know that the real Dante is “gone forever?” Not saying old Dante is definitely coming back, but is he even aware that DmC isn’t canon? There was a reason this guy was taken off the already shitty front page, then again, a vid like this would be a perfect fit.
1 he is making fun of DmC the whole time
and 2 there is apoint made that if that game does well, which i wont because “dem preorder sales” that we wont see ol’ dante every again
these video is more like, just in case he goes he is some stuff
and what was the reason the guy was taken off, he makes entertain video’s you don’t like?
His videos were taken down due to the SRK cries about his casual nature. I have nothing against him and he helps the FGC.
DmC pre-order sales have been calculated by VG-Chartz so they should be taken with a grain of salt. There are a huge amount of casuals who buy things on the day of release rather than pre-order. The video is decent but I’m sure we will see better more informative Dante send off videos in the future.
I think he speculates a bit too much, especially in this video. I never found his Marvel videos amusing, despite the effort of getting actors and what not. His heart is in the right place, but I cringe anytime I see his attempts at humor or his pandering to current topics and players.
It would be rather gratifying if DmC bombs badly and gets mediocre to bad reviews, then Capcom grovels at the feet of everyone who said it was a bad idea (like the Ninja Gaiden 3 fiasco)… But, the casuals and IGN.
Speaking of DMC lore and fiction, I do kinda like the anime series. It’s meh in every way as an anime, but it does show Dante’s day-to-day when he’s not saving the world, which is the sort of story that wouldn’t really work in a DMC game. It’s nice that we get the character development that we wouldn’t otherwise get.
I think the amount of interest for this game is exaggerated by the amount of arguing it causes on the internet. People who weren’t interested in DMC are still totally indifferent, and the gaming press just wants pageviews, hence troll headlines like “NT has nothing left to prove”, etc. Capcom has released a ton of stuff about the game, and everything has been completely forgettable or slightly offensive. You just get people who find validation in disagreeing with people, like that ezekial dude on Neogaf, going around defending the game, but honestly there’s nothing much to talk about that wasn’t already said when Capcom announced the reboot.
Well at this point he’s Capcom’s new PR guy in all but name. I’m actually surprised that he isn’t officially employed by Capcom after Ultimate Assist Me, I figured they would’ve done so for that.
