Devil May Cry!

There are plenty of companies that actually do.

Emo and Tsundere? Nah he’s aloof and a pretty good foil to Dante’s personality.
And yes that persona is preferred over throwaway one liners.

Vergil was a pretty damn focused and mature guy. He didn’t bullshit around like Dante and made jokes. Dante never came off seriously until the final battle vs Vergil. Vergil was quite the contrast of Dante. Not to mention his voice actor was PERFECT. Just look at almost any official artwork of Vergil. His stance is solid, with a serious facial expression, and he stands with confidence in his strength. Many times you see him in action(Prologue/Mission 3/Killing Beowulf), he doesn’t play around. No time for bullshit. How that is emo, I dunno.

He’s supposed to be angry/angsty, and not over the top ridiculous, which is why he lost the white hair and cornball dialogue. Different flavors for different folks, but it makes no sense why he wants to look awesome while killing demons, which is why the style system worked for old Dante. The system was a reflection of Dante’s personality, not a tacked-on game mechanic.I was sarcastic about the subjective part, because there’s 2 decades of player and developer experience that demonstrate what works and what doesn’t.

It detracts a ton from the experience because I play a game knowing that the developers have no idea what they’re doing. DMC3 and 4 actively pushes me to play better, but this game doesn’t. I guess not contributing to the game is the same as not detracting from the game, so if you want to see literal mediocrity as a positive you’re free to.

And Platinum/Sega gets shit to this very day about 30fps Bayonetta on PS3. The difference to me is that NT chose the engine (Unreal 3) knowing that it wouldn’t be able to get 60fps on current-gen hardware and would look like hot dogshit, before they began production. Sega bungled the PS3 port after the fact, nobody intended the game to have 30fps when they started making it. Instead of admitting the shortcomings of the hardware or their own technical limitations, Capcom and NT wheels out some “feel of 60fps” bullshit. That’s why everyone’s disappointed.

Plenty of games succeed without lock-on, and I don’t think of DMC as “that game with lock-on”, but it’s an integral part of how the old DMCs functioned. Bayonetta’s gameplay doesn’t need lock-on most of the time, MGR’s doesn’t either, and batman doesn’t give a shit who he’s hitting and where he is, he’ll somersault his ass all the way over to punch that nigga. However, lock-on is important in DMC because of how Dante’s stinger, Dante’s guns, and Nero’s Bringer work, but NT included all those things without understanding why they were in the old games. Moreover, to play DmC optimally you have to be able to pick out which enemy you want to hit, but it didn’t include a mechanic that allows for precise control of it.

People have criticized DMC3 for that as well, and I don’t think that game has ever been remembered for its fodder. I guess I’ll concede that there’s variety, but the fact that they range from unchallenging to tedious is what I meant to criticize, and I’ll admit that if the lore in the full game is more interesting than what the demo demonstrated, they might even be interesting. I get the feeling that they put those colored guys in to justify having the angel/demon weapons, and not vice versa, because otherwise people would question why that system was in the game. It’s symptomatic of the rest of the combat design by having an enemy correspond directly to a game mechanic, and forcing you to beat it in only one way, which is dull but not necessarily incompetent.

People have written long-ass analyses, and many of them admit the system has potential despite falling off the “bad game design” tree and hitting every branch on the way down. You’re sweeping that under your “fanboy” complaint table as well I suppose.

lol Bayonetta had a lock on button tho…

Damn misinformation like a mug… can’t be basing an argument on faulty facts @Shogunz

I didn’t use it most of the time, and bayo didn’t need it to dodge, but atleast they gave bayonetta her stinger move with a lock-on because that’s how it’s supposed to work

This. x1000

Old Vergil was perfect and even made Dante’s personality better. They’re twins with essentially the exact same level of power. But are so powerful that they never feel as if they are in any real danger. Dante uses this as an opportunity to goof off because somehow embarrassing demons as he slaughters them makes him feel better about his mother’s death/father’s sacrifice at their hands. That’s his method of coping. Vergil constantly sets out for more power to subconsciously prevent a repeat of the tragedy of his parents. Vergil should’ve been explored more…but we got his “son” instead.

This topic makes me reflect back on all the other topics I troll’d, and it’s making me reflect on those were offended by my posts.

Man… what is wrong with some of you people…

Wrong.

I didn’t say it didn’t. I said I didn’t use it. Step your reading comprehension game up.

Enemies dying only to gun fire is not the same as weapon specific enemies. No one is complaining about the demon shard confetti things.

Some are complaining about weapon specific enemies only made worse with no lock on. This getting brushed off as not a legit complaint is amazing.

They bunch up and you attacking one with the specific weapon hits them and then hits the other, you get the clash. So you run away to try to demon pull the red one away or jump and bring him into the air and it’s a 50/50 because of how close they are. You can say not having lock-on doesn’t deduct points but it would add points for having it. Don’t buy into NT’s bullshit, lock on was too complicated so use improved autoaiming and include double tap motion. You can have those without eradicating lock-on (also visual display of enemy health).

Bayo running at 30FPS (and still having slowdowns) on the PS3 is a pain in the ass and the load times were horrendous until the install option was patched in. Platinum says it was their biggest mistake and has since worked on both console versions themselves to make sure they don’t repeat the same mistake.

The solution to no lock on in DmC being the pull/lift mechanic kinda rubs me the wrong way. It’s no wonder the angel weapons are so focused on crowd combat. And since enemies tend to look the same, it’s easier to end up not killing one you already started to beatdown and end up taking more time on another. But fret not because NT covered this with the nigh infinite air time you can attain. There is literally no counter to not having lock on. I even believe one of the reasons Ninja Gaiden has camera issues is because of no lock on. GOW didn’t since you fought in wider areas and Kratos has ridiculous range on his default weapons that did pretty much everything.

Nope

A Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Sequel Would be “Awesome,” says Kojima Productions
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-13690-A-Metal-Gear-Rising--Revengeance-Sequel-Would-be--Awesome---says-Kojima-Productions.html
“If people like Metal Gear Rising, if the fans who play this game ask for more, that would be awesome,” said producer Yuji Korekado.
For Korekado it’s important that the series remains a collaboration.
“This is a game we definitely couldn’t have created at Kojima Productions,” he said. “Also, this is a game Platinum Games couldn’t have created on their own.
“We think of this as a product that came from the collaboration of both. We both have our strengths and they were put together. So if we were to create a sequel we definitely want to work in a similar partnership.”
quick, someone tweet bomb Kojima with “want more’s”.****

Of course I’m serious. I was just throwing it out there that buying both games is an option.

I didn’t get the point of that video… Your sarcasm is a little vague lol

You could buy both games, but why would you waste money on a mediocre game when a far better, more entertaining one is available? Especially in this economy, where money is tight and games cost $60 a pop new?

Besides that, people should really stop giving Capcom money at this point. It’s clear their executives have no clue what they are doing, and lots of talent is just being wasted on shitty gimmicks and lame sequels. It’s awful that a fanmade, 8-bit style Mega Man/Street Fighter crossover game had to be essentially forced on them by an overzealous community guy just to get them to even remember that it was Mega Man’s 25th Anniversary… People question them on this and how do they respond? With insults and animosity and more bad decisions…
This is an old, dying dog of a company that needs to be taken out back and put out of its misery.

Was that harsh? Yes. Yes it was. Has Capcom earned that venom by insulting me as a consumer and fan time and time again? You’re damn skippy.

Let me ask everyone a question: When was the last time Capcom delivered a AAA experience for you that wasn’t a remake or update of a game released before 2008?

fuck that new vergil. that guy sucks.

Dragons Dogma imho, but oh surprise a lot of the minds behind DMC4 made that game.
