Devil May Cry!

I wonder how many dmc fanboys cried about the new dante yet still will buy it.

DmC isnt out yet though.

Fixed now

Probably not many considering Metal Gear Rising is coming out a month after.

Why not just get both? If anything, trade DmC in for credit toward MGR. Its not like you have to choose one or the other.

Meh. Getting 20 back for a 60 dollar game isnjt worth it. I’d just save the 60 for MGR.

Because buying this game sends a terrible message to the publisher that this kind of stunt is acceptable… That you can shit on a franchise and its fanbase by letting any scrub with a a PC and a shitty attitude create a hackneyed, sloppy effort, but as long as you’ve got ‘brand recognition’ it will still sell.

NO.

Not gonna do that, buddy.

Well, firstly, I am not interested in DmC enough to justify paying 60 bucks for it. And secondly, I am probably going to invest in that MGR Limited Edition.

But that’s just me.

Fair enough…

While I kind of agree with you, I find this a little extreme. Even though I hate the changes they made as much as the next guy, I still think it’s a solid enough game that it would sell with or without the brand recognition. Also, the brand recognition is detrimental in this case due to the fact that the majority of the sales are gonna come from people who A. Haven’t played DMC, B. Think DMC was too hard, or C. Genuinely like the game for what it is. The hardcore DMC fans are not going to buy it. I understand making a statement but, whatever’s gonna happen is gonna happen whether or not you buy the game. No point in depriving yourself of a potentially good gaming (not DMC) experience.

The sales wouldn’t matter that much if the game isn’t well received by the people that bought it. Ratings, backlash, complaints, etc… are what’s going to send the real message.

Also fair enough. I’m interested in the game, but not $60 worth of interested. The only way I’ll pay full price is if there’s nothing else to buy that month. I already made the mistake of paying full price for a game I wasn’t sure about instead of picking up the one I knew I would enjoy when I bought Gears of War 3 over Dark Souls.

Trading in games is one of the dumbest practices and it baffles me that people still do it. Have none of these dipshits who trade in $60 games for $30 store credit ever heard of ebay? Guess it’s too much effort to type up a 5 minute auction and stop at a post office. I don’t enjoy burning money, but that’s just me.

If you want both, get both.

That if only justified if one truly feels like they didn’t get their money’s worth out of the game. If I enjoyed the game and considered myself done with it, I wouldn’t mind taking a $20-30 hit as opposed to dealing with Ebay.

You’re missing the point, you get MORE money back, and in cash. It has nothing to do with how long you played it, it’s more money in your pocket.

Imagine if Capcom contracted Netherrealms to make SF5, this situation isn’t at all comparable to SF4 or MVC3. There’s no such thing as casuals, it’s just a myth that Capcom and PR people have bought into, which is what I’m trying to explain to you. It’s silly to think that because they’ve designed a game where you can mash a button to beat the game, and your buddy will buy any game that lets him do that, that Capcom’s got lightning in a bottle. Your buddy doesn’t care about action games and doesn’t care about DMC, and by giving him an experience he could’ve gotten just about anywhere else isn’t going to convince him to like action games or the brand. Besides, the contention’s always been that by trying to make an easy game, Capcom’s just made a bad game, which isn’t bad because it’s Easy but because NT’s throwing pieces of better games into a “DmC mechanics” bucket without understanding how they work. The Batman Arkham games are braindead easy, but they’re good because they’ve been designed properly.

I’ll repeat all the stuff people have mentioned earlier, but I guess I’ll phrase it like an opinion because obviously game mechanics are all subjective.

On the whole, game mechanics serve to further the central vision of the game. This game is just a bland effort wearing a DMC costume because it adopted the mechanics without understanding how they worked in their original configurations. DMC, Bayonetta, NG, MGR, and Batman play differently because they were made with different philosophies towards the player experience, and their mechanical variations are just direct consequences of that. So more specifically DmC isn’t purely a mediocre action game, it is a shoddily implementation of traditional DMC mechanics, and a game more concerned with the recipe instead of the end product. It’s also defended by idiots that think just because they can’t tell the difference between a racecar and a bucket of engine parts, the bucket is just as good as the car.

old dante >>> new dante

but

new vergil >>> old vergil

I don’t know man…he doesn’t seem motivated.

This is why they say that drugs are destructive :shake:

I like old Vergil because he’s closeted about being as dope and ridiculous as Dante. He does all kinds of crazy over the top stylish shit, and then plays it off like he wasn’t trying to be cool. The tsundere of smokin sick style

I’m gonna snip out your condescending diatribe in favor of addressing these points specifically. It’s like, you *use *the word subjective, but don’t know what it means. You’re asserting that this version of Dante isn’t stylish, in the objective sense. Define stylish. Based on my understanding of the word he fits squarely into stylish for me. I think the problem many people have is their anime sensibilities. Dante did very very anime things. As this is a British developer, their version is infinitely more westernized. In his mannerisms (probably the most Japanese of all OG Dante’s traits) demeanor and speech. This is no more apparent than the new high time animation looking similar to a home run swing.

Style meter is fucked up, conceded point, but what % of fun does that REALLY subtract from the experience? And does a broken style meter prevent you from trying to be stylish in your combos? No it doesn’t.

I’ll address 60/lockon together since they’re often brought up together. I say look no further than Bayonetta. Had Bayo on the PS3. I’m sure since you’re all BasedPlatinum acolytes you wouldn’t say Bayo running at 30FPS made it a BAD game, it was just better on the 360. Thusly DmC could be BETTER at 60 (get the PC version if it means that much) but isn’t BAD for running at 30. Also, Don’t recall locking on in Bayonetta that often. Wasn’t terribly necessary. So again lock on is something you would’ve wanted but doesn’t make the game worse.

I keep hearing this enemy variety shit, and it’s a symptom of the mindstate that bothers me in all this. Let’s take the demo of DmC and the first stage in DMC3. DMC3 had the 7 hells. Most all of them attacked with the same weapon. Most all of the were the EXACT SAME SIZE. Barely any variety among them, the fodder, at all. Blood goyles could only be shot (well how about that, an enemy that you had to defeat, in part, a certain way), later on more enemy types were introduced but where is this vast variety that you’re craving? And why doesn’t DmC have it? In the demo (going by Underwatch, obviously) there is the regular fodder with swords. But there is also a sword+shield enemy that blocks you, two different flying enemies that are fought drastically differently (cherubs being cake to dispatch, harpies not so much) a bigger fodder enemy that has chainsaw attacks and hyper armor, and…for better or worse elemental demons that show up and can only be harmed with an angel or demon weapon. Also, from the nightclub gameplay and DMD gameplay there are more enemy types that show up on higher difficulties. Unless my basic math is off, there is MORE enemy variety in DmC than in previous games.

That’s really my issue in all these. People rattle off “flaws” without even half investigating them. Pick one: apathetic disinterest or critical analysis. Really can’t do both.

Finally…no taunts. Another people happily conceded point. DMC without taunting is fucking stupid. And given Dante’s modified attitude, I can’t for the life of me understand why NT thinks is inappropriate for their setting. I imagined shameless double birds being flicked. Fellatio gestures…I am disappoint.

old vergil had a personality of a rock.

i guess that cold/brooding/emo/tundere personality is considered “cool” to some?
